Cold and rainy here. I'm not a fan. Looks like it will at least clear out for Saturday when I take Cadence to the college campus for "Girl Day". There will be a bunch of shows and hands on activities for all age groups in different science and engineering categories. Should be a fun time if Cadence is feeling it.

Morning. I just got a call from the body shop that my car is done. It’s only 5 degrees out right now so I’m going to wait until later to get it when it hopefully warms up some. I’m feeling better today, like I just have a mild cold. My body is very achy though after building furniture yesterday. The girls seem to be doing about the same, s’s fever spiked yesterday so I’m hoping they’re on the tail end.

Morning! These 4 day work weeks are somehow always so damn busy and exhausting! And we found out this morning that we are acquiring one of our direct competitors (though we aquired them for other business lines, not their equity comp specifically) so there are some level of freaking out going on. Fortunately my office is pretty blase about it.
In other news, Chase was on a run of naughty notes so we talked to his teacher about using a new book from Grandma - one he hasn't had a chance to read because of all the naughty notes - as motivation to behave. It worked so well that she suggested he bring the book in to share with his class. She's going to laugh when she realizes the book is about a naughty (but lvoeable) puppy. DH and I also got a good laugh out of it, since his parents always insist that the boys are so well behaved when they watch them.
I finally booked Chase's party last night. I had a hard time picking a place and finally found one I really liked, and of course they had no availability at a decent time anywhere near his birthday. We found a decent place and it won't be THAT much more expensive, but it's a couple towns away vs. 1/2 a mile away. Poor Chase is still sad that the bounce house place is closing BUT he is excited for a gymnastics party, so I'll take it as a win.
Now we just need to book our FL trip. And get the taxes started. I'm over being an adult.

My sister flew in to surprise me last night. I knew she'd come, because I did it for her 40th but I figured she'd come tonight or tomorrow. The kids were so excited to see her. She helped me get them ready this morning and she made me go to work. She said she brought papers to grade and lesson plans to do. I'll take tomorrow off to hang out with her though.

Morning. Come on Weekend.
It’s a wet mess outside and traffic was horrible, so I was late I’m to work, but apparently everyone was, so I don’t feel bad. Our schedule isn’t too bad today, so hoping for a decent day.
I need to pack tonight because we leave tomorrow afternoon to head to my mom’s. It’s Mardi Gras weekend, so we’re taking the kids to the fair and a couple of parades. I’m looking forward to it, but it’s such a short trip, that I wouldn’t have been mad if we couldn’t go because of weather or whatever.
I wrote this out. Long time ago and forgot to hit post.

What a fun birthday surprise, tgrimes! That was so nice of her! I, of course, can’t wait to hear about what restaurant you’ll choose.

MH is on my very last nerve today. He has to do ONE paperwork-like thing for school and he has been putting it off for years. I keep telling him I’ll even do it with him. So he finally promised we’d do it this morning, and when I got back from the gym he had a hundred reasons why he’s not doing it. It’s a certification thing so it matters A LOT bc he’s the only one with a job over here. We went around and around for a bit and he finally sent the email, so at least step one is done. Ugh!

guster, I hope you can light a fire under YH's ass (or he lights his own). That's so annoying. trtlcrzy I hope you and your brood are 100% soon. tgrimes how fun! How do you feel about 40 creeping up? You'll still be flirty, a little over 30, and thriving.

guster Well that's annoying. Why is he procrastinating so much? I have no idea. He’s not a procrastinator usually. I think it’s just one more school thing to take care of that’s not affecting his everyday. It’s not lesson planning or parent emails, or letters of recommendation or final grades, and bc it’s lame bureaucratic nonsense it doesn’t fit in his “to-do” list.

The other day Cass was mopey and asked me when she's finally going to get a horse. Um, a quarter 'til never? Apparently she and MH were having a conversation in which he mentioned when she's grown up if she works hard and gets a good job she can get herself a horse. What she got out of it is she's getting a horse now. I did tell the girls I was considering signing them up for riding lessons this summer and they were both jazzed so I think I'll make that happen.

inthekitty I had a friend growing up that had a horse. They cost so much money and are so much work. Hopefully she'll be pacified with riding lessons.

I showed the girls one of my senior pictures at my grandma's house.
Cass: Why was your belly so big? Was there a baby in it?
Me: That's rude. Why would you even say that, my belly wasn't big.
Cass: *Points to the picture*
Madison: Those were her boobs Cass.
Cass: Your boobs were really big.

We have a super fancy equestrian center really close to our house. The cost for all-inclusive boarding (they take care of everything) is $600/month. I think my first apartment was $585/month.

joelies, inthekitty, guster, I don't care about turning 40. I know some people might but, to me, it's just another year. I've never been one to make a big deal out of birthdays though.

Aging is so weird. I constantly forget my age and the younger days don't feel that far away. It's bizarre to me that my 20 yr reunion is this year (my mom and stepdad re-met at their reunion). I don't think I'll mind 40. People dismiss you as a youth in your 30s. I think I'll get more cred for still kicking ass and taking names when I'm in my 40s.

I almost never celebrate my birthday, because I don’t really care about it, but I somehow really didn’t like turning 30... 6.5 years untill 40 to prepare .

Oh, and I finally watched TATBILB pt. 2. Loved it. So cute. I'm like the version of Lara Jean who never actually snagged the boy in high school and just stayed nerdy and anonymous.

joelies , inthekitty , guster , I don't care about turning 40. I know some people might but, to me, it's just another year. I've never been one to make a big deal out of birthdays though. I turned 40 while I was 1198374 months pregnant with S. I told MH I wanted to just have dinner with him and maybe my BFF and her H at a local casual restaurant we all love. Nothing fancy. There was so much going on at the time, and my shower was in a few weeks, then I'd be having the baby, so I hated the idea of making people "do" stuff for me so many times. He threw me a surprise party. Which was nice, in theory. But 100% what I did not want. At all. AND he invited the weirdest grouping of people. And it was at the restaurant I said we'd eat at which doesn't have a private room so it was like a big long table in the middle of the restaurant. With my boss, a few of my good friends, and a handful of other people that he decided to invite. It was super awkward. I wish he had just listened to what I told him I wanted!
