my kids both have big built in desks in their bedrooms. until now, we've kinda just used them for storage, but DD1 is a budding artist and her supplies are taking over the playroom and other designated toy/craft areas. seems like a good time to convert her desk into an art area.
it seems pretty straightforward, but i'd really like it to be and stay organized. any favorite caddy or storage type things? or should i do one of those peg board organizers?

I put bins and baskets on the back side of the desk by the wall and one of those 3 drawer plastic units under the desk but quickly my kids grew and decided they needed more actual desk space and more leg room. So my recommendation is to put shelve above the desk unit or beside the desk and put bins and baskets on them that they can pull down to do the artwork but store up and out of the way when not needed or need more desk space.

DD needs a good desk for her art projects but right now she uses the kitchen table. I do use small bins and containers for her storage. In the playroom, there is a 3 drawer cabinet holds paper in one drawer, colored pencils, markers, drawing things in another and scissors, glue and tape in the 3rd.
Smaller bins are in a closet and hold various craft materials like string, pompoms, paints, brushes, etc. I'd like to set up a shelf in the basement to have it all in one place
