Hi! I’m new here so hope it’s ok to do a short intro before jumping in.
A bit about me - I’m pregnant with my second (due May 30, team green) have a four year old son and have been married to my husband for 8 years. We live in western Canada with our two dogs, cat and horse (he lives on a farm though). I had a pretty scary ectopic in February which resulted in my tube bursting, needing emergency surgery and a lot of internal bleeding. Needless to say we are very excited about this pregnancy as we weren't sure it would happen.
I look forward to getting to know all of you!

Hello and congrats! I had an ectopic pregnancy right before my current one, luckily they caught it early enough that my tube was intact when they took it out. Healing from that surgery was pretty sucky either way.

Healing from that surgery was pretty sucky either way. I’m sorry to hear that you had to go through it too, it really is not fun at all. Plus the mental part that comes with it, I was so convinced this one was another ectopic overanalyzing every twinge and cramp. I only started feeling more relaxed once seeing it was in the right spot (and the morning sickness that came on shortly after haha!)

My first pregnancy was also ectopic so basically since then I’ve been very cautious until I see baby on the ultrasound where it belongs.

Welcome! I had a cornual ectopic in June, before getting pregnant with this one. I had started to bleed but it hadn’t ruptured yet. I had the tube and part of my uterus resected. It must have been so scary and painful to have it rupture and I completely understand the overanalyzing! Congratulations!

I am sorry to hear about your ectopic too, it seems more common then I ever could imagine and before it happened to me it was something I didn’t give much thought to. My friend had one a few years ago but they didn’t seem to do much for her and let her body just ride it out so I didn’t think it was ever that big of a deal! Did you know you were pregnant before it started happening? That would have been really scary to start bleeding but that’s great they could resect it. I didn’t know I was pregnant (I’m usually more aware of my body but that was a crazy time in my life and I wasn’t tracking anything) and thought the pain I was having was bad gas. I was embarrassed to be going to the hospital except I should have realized it was more serious because I couldn’t even bend down to put on my shoes I was in so much pain.

I was embarrassed to be going to the hospital except I should have realized it was more serious because I couldn’t even bend down to put on my shoes I was in so much pain. I knew I was pregnant. The ectopic was our 5th loss, I was on hormones and meds and with RPL I test extremely early and have HCG draws ASAP. We knew something was wrong because my levels weren’t doubling and eventually started to plateau. I went off the hormones to let my body miscarry and I bled for 2 weeks but then my pregnancy symptoms returned full force. HCG showed my levels coming back up but they couldn’t locate the pregnancy on an ultrasound. 2 days after the ultrasound I started spotting and having severe pain. I went to the ER, they couldn’t find the pregnancy and kinda acted like I was being over dramatic about a normal miscarriage. They gave me some strong pain relievers and sent me home. My doctor was concerned about the level of pain I was reporting (obviously I knew what a miscarriage felt like), so they sent me to a big teaching hospital nearby where they located the ectopic. Said it was a rare form of ectopic where the baby implants partially in the tube and partially in a small portion of the uterus where it attaches to the tubes. They admitted me to L&D to monitor me, they were hoping I would miscarry naturally as my levels were falling dramatically. But by morning it was much worse so I had an emergency surgery on my tube and uterus. It was the worst experience of my life. I can’t imagine if it had rupture and I didn’t even know I was pregnant. Ugh that’d be awful.

Ugh that’d be awful. Omg that sounds horrible, I can’t believe they just originally brushed you off and sent you home! So what if it actually ruptured then? They’d say oh whoops sorry? Ugh that’s partially why I didn’t want to go in because I was scared they’d treat me like I was over reacting. That’s awesome you got in to the big teaching hospital so they could give you more monitoring and save your tube and uterus, hopefully this time around you were able to have answers as soon as possible and not have to worry about it happening again. The dr at the ER was very supportive and told me when/if I ever had pain like that again or found out I was pregnant to get in ASAP for an ultrasound. Of course I obsessively tracked ovulation and pregnant symptoms and basically went in as soon as it turned faint positive. The poor resident doctor was regretfully telling me it didn’t look hopeful because my HCG was only 63. I remember laughing because I said ya I know I’m like 5 seconds pregnant. But that at least allowed me to get a requisition for blood draws to make sure it was doubling until I finally was far enough along for an ultrasound to make sure it was in the right spot. It just was such a horrible time thinking I could lose my only tube, convincing myself it wasn’t viable, getting excited then crushed when I had a similar pain over and over again. But all of that to say I honestly think I had it easier not knowing I was pregnant, I never had to mourn a loss as I didn’t get excited about a pregnancy. I feel horrible for everyone having to go through this (or miscarriages) as I know the emotions and worry never go away. I’m so grateful and excited for the chance to be fortunate to have one tube that works and allowed me to get to go through this again. Even if this pregnancy is kicking my ass haha!

Well they didn’t save my tube, and part of my uterus was resected as well, but they took as little as possible so I am (obviously) still able to get pregnant. I can’t go into labor though because the contractions could my my uterus rupture at the surgery site. But I still had one tub left, which is getting tied during the c section! I hate that the doctor may have worried you about that first number, you really can’t know if something is wrong without having a second number for doubling! I’m super happy your baby is good though. Many congratulations.

Radley , i'm an idiot I thought resected meant something else. I am sorry to hear you lost the tube as well. That's awesome they can tie the remaining one up after csection though and get it all done in one surgery. Sucks to have to deal with the risk of labour though. I hope all goes well! And thanks! Congrats to you as well
