So my normal routine is: base coat, color, another layer of color and then top coat. I feel like a) my top coat is always tacky and b) that they chip easily/streaky unless I use a dark color.
Am I missing steps?

tj I go between OPI top coat and karma organics base/top combo. The karma is older but the OPI is like 6-9 months old.

Am I missing steps? no, you’re not missing anything. Do you use a quick drying top coat? My light colors do tend to streak, especially Essie. Almost all my manicures (even professional) chip after 3 days. The only brand of polish that has gone beyond 3 days for.me is Butter London, but it’s $$ so I only have 2 bottles.

So I am new to this thread, but I have just discovered Holo Taco nail polishes and I am hooked. This is their Missed Shift holographic colour (shifts from green to purple) with a Purple Slushie accent nail (the pure purple one). Sorry for the not great picture

I'm super into green right now, what about that with either gold or silver? That’s what a have now. Green nails and a gold accent nail. Well you have good taste, lol

Since I outed myself as a lurker of this thread I thought now is as good a time as any to jump in. I even installed Tapa so I could share pictures. I am new to doing my nails, and have gone all out, including getting into stamping. I have no artistic talent, am not very good, and never get the look I am going for, but here is my recent attempt at Christmas nails. I hate how the gold glitter turned out, and my just paint the whole nail gold. Green base is Cupcake Polish: Unbe-leaf-able Gold is some super cheapo stuff from the dollar store White is Maniology stamping polish Hopefully the pics are not huge (and actually attach)

tj I go between OPI top coat and karma organics base/top combo. The karma is older but the OPI is like 6-9 months old. I'm mostly a lurker here but I really want to be more active. It's just hard to fit in time between working, parenting, and my nail polish and animal crossing addiction! Haha! I don't have any experience with the Karma Organics brand, but from what I've heard, the base/top combos don't usually work as well. I also wanted to rave about my very favorite top coat by Glisten and Glow. I ran out a couple weeks ago and was dying while waiting for my new order to arrive because it's just that good. It's a super glossy, easy to use formula that dries in about 5 minutes. Seriously! I can do my nails and then go about my day without chipping and smudging them, and it wears really well for several days. It's pretty affordable too, compared to some other top coats on the market. So I highly recommend it if you're looking to try something new

The best formula I have found is ilnp. If I combine that with Ella and Mila base and top coat (make sure you wrap the tips) I can get a week. Usually one chip if that.

I was feeling inspired this morning and got to work on a nailsmailed holiday set. I normally apply them at night, but threw caution to the wind and put them on just before scrubbing my floors. Needless to say I’m back to naked nails. Boo. I’ll try again tonight!

This is my favorite winter mani I've done so far! My quarantine obsession has been nail art and nail polish. It's given me a really fun escape while being stuck at home.

I used ILNP for the first time last week, and it was the first time I had nail polish last all week, still looking mostly good! I used OPI Nail Envy Strengthener under and the Sally Hansen Quick Dry in the red bottle on top.

I don’t use a base coat. For the top coat I use Sally Hansen Quick Dry. I find the chipping relates more to the polish itself.

I am just jealous that my accomplishment was learning how not to paint my entire finger when I did my nails and you are over there making mini masterpieces 😂

Honestly I fully credit the Lights Lacquer brushes with teaching me how to paint my nails better. I was always terrible at painting them, and really never even liked painting them until I tried Lights Lacquer. The brushes are superb and make it so easy to paint your nails without getting it all over your cuticles. I spent many many nights painting my nails numerous times in a row trying to learn and get it right!

This weeks manicure. Trying to figure out what to do for my Xmas manicure. From left to right: Holo Taco “Green Taffy” and Amazon rhinestones, Holo Taco “Play Rosé”, a really old Zoya red shimmer with no name on it the black is sharpie and the gold is Essie “Good as gold”. Pinky is Enchanted Polish “Buddy”. Re: longevity I can get most of my polish to last well over a week if I dehydrate my nail plate prior to painting, use a long lasting base coat (at the moment it’s Holo taco), wrap the tips with every step, don’t use my nails as tools anymore and the Essie Gel Couture top coat.
