Samantha Bee/Full Frontal has made their parental leave policy 20 paid weeks for new moms/primary care givers, and has challenged other late night shows (and everyone else) to do the same.

Eddie Gallagher posted a video to FB where he called the SEALs who testified against him cowards, and reportedly also gave info on their current locations/assignments.

This is a big problem, for a number of reasons YIKES can someone dumb this down for me? I get the breach of trust/relationship part if it moves forward, but the affect on US if UK does it? Because the communication lines between US/UK could be compromised?

Because the communication lines between US/UK could be compromised? Yes, essentially. The article gives this good way to think about: "Can you imagine a situation where, in the '80s, Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher have a conversation and they say, 'You know, I think we should have the KGB come and build all of our telecommunications and computer network systems because they're offering a great discount.'"

Oh don't worry, VA. beach got you beat. They also declared themselves a 2nd amendment sanctuary City less than a year after 12 people were shot dead by a coworker. Cool, cool.

There are a few counties around MI doing this right now, mine included. It's kind of freaking me out. We don't have a big Moms Demand presence here to rally people against it.

I'm very concerned about coronavirus. I'm on immunosuppressant drugs and I have a child with asthma. I got an update today from VDH since I'm a licensed doc in the state. As of yesterday, 2 of the 3 possible cases have tested negative. The other one is still pending. From my experience working in a hospital l, hospitals are pretty careful about which patients are labeled possible cases. And for this virus, the testing is only available at the CDC. So you know the test is accurate. I hope that lessens your worries some.

I have been watching news but have been unsure of how much to worry. The flu season is already supposed to be worse than two years ago and then this additional strain adds to it.

Also, assuming China is being transparent with the reported cases, which I know is questionable, the death rate is tracking at around 2%.
~35,000 people died in the US last year of flu.
Of course the virus can change, but that perspective is really important imo.

The best part was actually hearing the anchor laugh in the background. Like, even they know he is a joke. Why the fuck won't anybody say it out loud??

blurnette989, RajahMD, so on the topic of the virus, considering how much more virulent flu seems to be compared to the coronavirus, I am actually kind of surprised at the level of containment efforts/travel bans/evacuations, etc., still being enforced. I get that there are a lot of unknowns, but restrictions seem to be getting stricter instead of easing. Do you think that will change soon?

Yes yes, cakewench, the logical part of my brain definitely knew the answer to that question. I think it was more rhetorical. The full of rage side of my brain has taken over most of the time now.

The faster something spreads, more people get infected. The more that get infected, more people die. The last thing anyone needs is a new pandemic. Prevention is key with these bugs. It's easier to prevent the spread than it is to eradicate it. Also, we don't have enough (valid) information to compare this virus to the flu.

I get that there are a lot of unknowns, but restrictions seem to be getting stricter instead of easing. Do you think that will change soon? Not an epidemiologist but I think a lot of what is happening right now in terms of reaction is preventative. I think once there is some level of containment and maybe more concrete information on what the incubation timeframe is, etc it will ease. Unfortunately, I also think some of the reaction is based on mistrust of the Chinese government with reporting. So if it’s worse than is being reported the rest of the world needs to be prepared. We haven’t had a identified case in my area yet but I work for a health system and we are getting daily updates (I’m sure many are getting hourly updates) and have plans and policies in place. Some of it is just activation of general epidemic policies and some is based on this case. One thing that’s been interesting to me is they really don’t know how long it takes to show symptoms yet. The CDC just increase the “watch list” to anyone who was traveled within 14 days. I’m hoping that’s abundance of caution but 14 days is a long time to be cruising around with a virus and not be showing any signs of it.

Matt Mauser, who is the husband of Christina Mauser who was killed in the crash on Sunday, is on CNN with Anderson. Its heartbreaking. Hes trying so hard to not break down and bawl on national tv.

I haven’t been able to watch any of his interviews. I’m so overwhelmed with this story. It’s just so heartbreaking. I keep thinking of those young girls who died and breaking down.
