We didn't either so that's why A is ready to drop $$$$$ on a trip for 10 years.... but right now all I want to do is cry at leaving MJ overnight so I'm not in the right headspace to plan it. I realize she will be 2 by then and I'll be fine. But not right now. Definitely. When I think about leaving my two for a week while abroad the anxiety starts creeping in. I will also have to make sure the grandparents are willing to be here for that time. I know both my parents and MH’s would be happy to, but just asking seems like such a big deal in my head. When we did our trip to Ireland, we split the time between grandparents so a) they both felt included and b) they weren’t overwhelmed/stuck for over a week. That is how my parents always did it for big trips when we were kids, too. I think it works pretty well.

After dinner last night, my friend suggested we go out dancing and said she knew a place with a band. It was eighties night but it felt a bit more like “in your eighties” night but we had fun anyway. We have nothing to do today which I’m very excited about.

Morning!
Up drinking coffee. H is leaving this morning to drive to Denver for work for the week. I need to figure out something for evie to do today or she will drive me insane. Either send her to a neighbors to play or go do something.
Then just dinner at my moms to celebrate my brother and nephews birthdays.

I’m spiralling out of control with the two kids rooms... We bought a floor, I found wallpaper & a bed for dd I love, but I want a new bed for ds & I’m in dubio about the wallpaper...

Morning!
DH is flying so I’m here with the kids. They’ve been making forts since 7 am 🤪 I’ve got blueberry muffins in the oven and I’d love a 2nd cup of coffee to go with.
Another house popped up in our target neighborhood (so now there are exactly 3 for sale). It’s one of my favorite exteriors and floorplans that you see in that neighborhood, but the flooring is a disaster (seriously I lost count at the various types they’ve used) and it has a pool. I can handle having all the floors redone but I am highly reticent about the pool. I may send my mom and sister to look at it anyway. I wish this was coming available later in the spring so I would ostensibly have more to compare it to.
Sorry for the word vomit.

flamingo could the pool be levelled? It can never hurt to look! DH has looked into it, ha! It’s definitely doable, the question is does it make sense? Pools in FL definitely add to the property value and you’re paying thousands extra in your purchase price for it, so I don’t know that it makes the greatest financial sense to buy with that being the plan. Then I think you’d have to disclose to all future buyers that there’s a filled-in pool in your yard, lol. ETA: We’ve ‘enjoyed’ the pool we have but itadds to our monthly costs and upkeep, and obviously is an ongoing safety hazard. I think that’s the biggest hesitation for me, more so than money or maintenance—it’s hard for me to relax and let my kids loose in the backyard knowing it’s back there, and even as my kids get older we’ll still have young nieces and nephews, etc. Sorry, more word vomit!

vino How are the kids? Did you drink a red last night? We’re past it! Thank goodness. J was just super tired yesterday so asked for a shower and bed early. I followed suit and went to bed early-ish. We both had a great sleep and now she’s performing gymnastics on the furniture. Thanks for checking in!

I’d have the same thoughts about a pool flamingo, it’s nice to let the kids go in the backyard, especially during deployments and such, and ours are getting the perfect age to play with minimal supervision, which wouldn’t happen if you had to worry about water safety. I guess the only way around it would be to have it fenced, locked and covered with you deciding when it’s available, but the maintenance costs would definitely be a bummer. What a conundrum.

I get it. A wants a hot tub and I refuse until all of our kids are good swimmers. I know they have tops and lock but I also know my kids. And they will find a way.

Yes, exactly. it’s currently covered with a screened enclosure (this is a common thing down south to keep out debris, not sure about other parts of the country) and there is a pool fence around it, so that’s good. But I would still worry. And there is a nice neighborhood pool and splash pad that we would already be paying for through HOA, etc. so you’re essentially paying for two pools.

Hi!
Work was busy again. This was the busiest weekend I have worked. I’ll have one weekend a month for now, so hoping they go back to normal.
It’s wet and dreary outside so the kids are watching a movie and I’m relaxing. I kind of want to nap, but not sure if I will.

inthekitty we are thinking of renting a car for our Seattle trip in April. Do you know how challenging it is to park in the city? The Air bnb we are staying at has parking and we figure we would use the car for day trips (recs welcome). We would be interested and seeing mountains and maybe a small hike but nature’s not my thing. Disclaimer-- I rarely go to Seattle. In my experience parking can be a bit of a PITA, but there are always parking garages. Discovery Park is a way to enjoy nature but not get too naturey right in the city. I think C would love it. Of course Pike's Market. Seattle Center and the whole area around the Space Needle (the Science Fiction and Rock and Roll museums are cool). Sometimes there are events and festivals there. You can ride the monorail to there from a mall downtown. That monorail is about as successful as the one in the Simpsons because it only runs a few blocks. Ferry rides are really fun. You could take a day trip over to Bainbridge Island. Right near the ferry stop is a Children's Museum. A short drive away is Poulsbo--a touristy viking town, or Bremerton a naval town with navy museums. If you wanted to venture a little further you could take a ferry to Whidby Island or even the San Juan's. Lake Sammamish State Park in Issaquah is cool.

Welp, house is a no-go. Mom and my sister went to look and besides the nightmare floors and the pool, they said every single room needed *something*...esp. with DH deploying in the fall, we can take on some projects but probably not what this house would entail. On the plus side, the floorplan is perfection and it has great closet/storage space, so I'm really hoping something similar will pop up soon that has been better taken care of/upgraded. That is a common style in that 'hood so fingers crossed.

3 girls playing together is no joke. They cant all agree to do the same thing and I have to stop myself from telling them what to do.
But they seem to be having fun. 3 more hours...

Hi hi, the day is getting away from me and I'm floundering a bit. I took j to bball and he did great but then was pushing at the end, which he had a million explanations for, none of which were valid. Now processing the news about Kobe, so so sad😥

Yes tallb saw that a few minutes ago about Kobe. One of the best athletes of our generation, just crazy. Way too young. Apparently he and his wife had several children, including a newborn

2 more hours. I wont let evie invite 2 friends over at the same time.
Our neighborhood best friends daughter is a goddamn brat.
1 on 1, evie does good with either of them. But the 3 of them together, no one can agree. I'm annoyed and trying to stay out of it.

How is it that MH can sleep in, relax on the couch and now relax in the basement with nobody bothering him!? It's mostly L but I went upstairs for a little peace and quiet and it was literally 20 seconds until she was right there with me. He went in the basement with L to "give me a break". Guess who ended up in the basement alone and who ended up with the kids. It was a great minute of quiet time.

Y’all... ok I guess I should trigger warning. Child loss
Re Kobe.... apparently the second oldest daughter confirmed to be on the plane.
ETA: I had to change it. MH was listening to a reporter and they were saying the girls, but just the 13 year old has been confirmed. I’m still gonna be sick.
