If I saw someone with a piece of paper that had "new driver" written on it. Then I would just be like wtf? and move on. Your UO seemed to state that this was more than just a one off, like a regular thing. Thus, the questioning of if it was a Canada thing, like is this a thing that people in Canada, whatever region, does. It is not a U.S. thing. Not just not here in Texas, where I live, but as a whole, a U.S. thing. Asking if it is a Canada thing is not ignorant. Yes, I see the papers on the cars regularly that state 'new driver'. that's neat that you would look away, I look away as well but hence my UO that I dont understand why they have it and it doesnt change the way i treat them as a driver on the road. Saying that my one thing as a UO is a whole country thing comes off as ignorant to me, to you it doesn't, cool. But I stand by my feelings on it and it's great to see that my feelings are coming off as rude. Your feeling on the sign is not coming off as rude. Your comment on us being ignorant, is what we're reading as rude.

guster I can totally live with a wreath, I meant more like lawn ornaments, etc. I think up north it's pretty common to leave wreaths up b/c with all the brown and snow it would be pretty dreary otherwise (at least that is my 'take' based on Maine). I did switch out my wreath to dark green magnolia leaves, I have a pink floral-y one I'll put up once we hit Feb. jewels so glad you had a good appointment and connected with the doc, that is half the battle sometimes. Also, DNW 6 bathrooms. 3.5 is my perfect #.

I keep finding small Christmas crap that wasn't put away...like the advent calendar and the singing snowman. Just found a small snowman Cadence made from a craft kit under the couch the other day. I forgot to put our elf away with all the Christmas decor and now he's stashed in my underwear drawer b/c I am too lazy to go up in the attic. So every time I go to get underwear out I am weirded out/reminded all over again. Maybe tomorrow... My sister takes the elf ‘back to Norway, where he lives’ each year, she takes picture of him riding on the plane & in the snow in front of her house, the kids love this. Each year I Need to remind her during the summer to bring it back before Christmas 😜.

Not speaking for her, but I know I hate to be called ignorant. It’s like if someone was calling me stupid. I know- it’s a me thing. Now because I “know”you, I know you didn’t mean it that way, but it did make me feel a way when I read it. Again, I know it may just be a me thing. We didn’t mean any harm or negativity when we called it a Canada thing. If you see these signs where you are, I think it can be safe to assume you may see them on the other side of Canada, too. Of course I dont mean it as stupid. The word 'assume' is what makes it ignorant, to me. Clearly it's a me thing. So if I ask my babysitter, who is from Toronto, if she has seen these new driver signs in her hometown, that would be ignorant of me? I don’t get why it’s ignorant because it’s just a sign. We’re not talking about personal culture or anything more serious.

Obviously with a bigger family, or if you had tons of out of town guests, it'd be nice to have more. But sometimes, around here at least, I think a lot of people just equate bigger with better and that's silly to me. I'd rather have nicer things/better car/more vacations, etc than a giant, unused house.

jewels that is how we feel about new furniture/appliances/ a car etc... We’d rather spend it on vacation! This might be an UO, we have no desire to own a car 🤷🏼♀️.

IDK, I ask Tim sometimes like “is that a Colorado thing?” But I can see how if I asked someone from the South “is that a Mississippi thing” it wouldn’t go over well.
I could be reading more into it, but maybe it’s a bit because in a general sense, Americans are thought to be a little ethnocentric? So it’s possible that this would sound like an unintentionally condescending question when it’s directed at anyone from another country?
Or maybe I’m just not on track at all. Shrug.

saying 'is this a Canada thing' I find ignorant. Like I am a whole country or something, which was explained up thread. Am i making this up? I will admit that I’m ignorant of life in Canada. I realize there are differences in the different provinces, as there are differences in US states. but asking “is this a Canada thing” I see as more of a general question asking for information from someone who lives in the country. I’m sorry you’re offended but that’s all that anyone intended with those questions. We are trying to learn.

Hell no to 6 bathrooms.
I would love a 3000 square foot house, but have no idea how I would keep up with cleaning it.
I struggle with my 1500 square foot house, but I think that’s largely because of the nightmare tri-level layout.

But I do kind of wish that our powder room was a full bath.

Super random question, but what rooms do you all have garbage cans in? MH is a weirdo (I think) who would like one in every room, but I keep us limited to the kitchen, the bathrooms, and the office. He keeps trying to put one in our room but I don’t want it there because I feel like if you have something to throw out walk it to the bathroom or if it’s too big, walk it downstairs to either the outside garbage cans or the kitchen.

So many houses I see for sale are practically empty except for a couch and TV and beds, nothing on the walls. It would depress me to live like that long-term just to have the "right" address. I want the happy medium. I do like a separate bath for overnight guests. We had that at our last house and I miss it. Right now the guests and kids share and while it's only a few times/year, it's not my favorite. We have a half bath off the laundry room (which is weird). Only us and the kids use it, I would not send a guest in there. I think it was a 'maid's potty', which is common in older homes here.

I'm not going to tell anyone what to say. But if anyone else would have brought up the UO then it would be a regional thing, right? Or just stopping at 'oh i haven't ever seen that' then give an opinion about the UO. But to almost immediately ask if it is the entire country thing comes off as ignorant. And to be clear, I don't think that anyone was being malicious saying 'is this a Canada thing' but then for me to come and say that it is coming off as ignorant and it's being taken as rude is confusing to me. I live here, I am Canadian and I am telling you that I think a statement is ignorant but it's dismissed as rude is shocking and a little hurtful, honestly. Especially from people that 'know' me.

I have them in the 3 bathrooms, laundry room, and under the kitchen sink. I am not sure if B's red solo cup that perfectly fits in the cord hole in his desk counts, but he does empty it into the garbage every Monday night for Tuesday garbage day.

We use scoopable litter, so the pee and poop clump up the litter, making it removable without having to toss the entire box of litter twice a day.

vino, I just don't think I would call my friend, or something my friend said "ignorant" because it would make her feel stupid and I wouldn't want her to feel stupid. Thus, I would have just corrected the word she used that I felt wasn't being used appropriately. So when you said the phrasing was ignorant it was as if you were calling her stupid, which we all know she isn't and it came off as hurtful. So perhaps the word ignorant is meant something else in your area, but where I'm from it's another way to say someone or something is stupid.

All bathrooms, kitchen, kids' rooms, our room, living room, office. So I guess basically every room but the guest room and the playroom, lol. The trash can in our bathroom is small, which is probably why we have one in our room. I mostly use it for tissues and things like tags from clothes and it doesn't get emptied that often. B still has one in his room b/c he's still in diapers. We never removed S from diaper days, but he uses it esp when he has a cold or something. Also doesn't get emptied often. Living room honestly was a holdover from when the kids were babies and we had a little changing area there. I like having it there for tissues too. They're all tiny except the kitchen. I guess I'm a weirdo like your H

guster I'm team Weirdo I keep wastebaskets in all bedrooms and baths, the laundry room, under DH's desk, and obviously a larger trash can in the kitchen. My mom always kept them in bedrooms so I guess that is "normal" to me. DH's mom does not have one in her guest room, and it drives me crazy when we're there and I have to leave the room to throw something away, haha. eta: our bedroom and bathroom trash cans, and the one under DH's desk, are all more 'decorative', if you can call a wastebasket decorative, lol. Only the ones in the kitchen and laundry are more 'industrial' (the stainless kind).
