Interesting take: what happens to the insurance jobs if health insurance is gone because of m4a?

Sorry, I've been putting out fires elsewhere, are we really doing the "question Warren on M4A" AGAIN?!?!?!?! They really like to beat things to death a million times over multiple venues. And avoid topics that we'd actually like to hear them on.

Annnnnd no one is answering it. I doubt they have an answer. I personally am for M4A with a continued private insurance sector that offers "Cadillac" plans, or whatever they are called that patients can pay for to get additional services such as private rooms and what not. But even then the industry would be reduced from what it is now.

I do appreciate Liz and Amy answering questions as "she" as president. (Kamala did it 1st, but I like that they're taking up the mantle.)

Buttigieg is still ignoring that a 1% parent's millions are not their child's millions and assuming all those parents are going to pay whatever for their kids. It's kind of narrow-minded.

I personally am for M4A with a continued private insurance sector that offers "Cadillac" plans, or whatever they are called that patients can pay for to get additional services such as private rooms and what not. But even then the industry would be reduced from what it is now. Agreed that they don’t have answers. Liz has biffed on this before. I think it’s a huge question and almost as important as the how will we pay for it question. Keep in mind that it’s not just insurance jobs, it’s jobs doing billing and collections for health care providers too. I work in an entire building full of people just dealing with insurance. We have whole different departments for government and managed care insurance because it’s so different. My whole job is dealing with complexities in insurance billing and had been for 18 years. That’s how it reduces costs - by eliminating all that wasted effort. For where people go, I think it’s a combo of: Some jobs remaining in private insurance (supplemental insurance) and some jobs remaining in billing and collections, but much reduced. Early retirement and attrition to other industries. Maybe green new deal jobs? Retraining in the medical field. There is a already a huge shortage in healthcare workers - docs, nurses, techs (ultrasound, etc) and it’s going to be exacerbated with the boomers aging and expanded coverage. There are jobs that are light on clinical patient care that could be vastly expanded such as care coordinators, case managers, patient transportation / navigation, scheduling, medical transcriptionists, coding. With everyone having coverage there should be a shift to preventative care to keep costs down but that takes coordination and resources too. Research and Data Analytics. With everyone on Medicare the data available for medical research and data analysis will be incredible. Take all those number crunchers at insurance companies and move them to crunching numbers on when is the best time for people to get mammograms, etc. ETA: and I’m sure there are other ideas out there. I think it will be hard and needs a strategy. That’s why I favor a longer transition.

Also, for the many rich parents paying, it would inevitably lead to a tiered system where rich kids would NEVER go to public colleges, and so they’d never receive that tuition money anyway (while also missing out on any money from a wealth tax).

jaygee, thank you. This is what I was hoping one of them would speak on, but they all balked/ ignored it. I feel for them because it’s messy - like some go here and some go here. And then people just doze off. And people have a hard time imagining new types of jobs so that doesn’t help.

Steyer looked fucking giddy listening to that answer from Pete. That would have been hilarious if it wasn't life and death.

I mean seriously, answer the quessstttiooonnnn. Agriculture needs significant help. If we can't clarify a message on how to help them when their farm is under water, they're going to keep voting R.

Pete totally didn’t answer the question You just can move a farm Wait. What is this in reference too? question about areas that have to be abandoned permanently due to climate change. Pete was v proud of himself for saying that he'd use federal funds to help people move out of those frequent-flood areas.

Wait. What is this in reference too? question about areas that have to be abandoned permanently due to climate change. Pete was v proud of himself for saying that he'd use federal funds to help people move out of those frequent-flood areas. Ah. Yeah no. For a lot of farmers, that little plot of land is their inheritance and their family legacy. They're not going to let it go so easily. My grandpa has farmland in Southern IL that is his from his parents. He has someone who rents it to farm from him (a cousin I think) and he does want to sell it, but he won't just leave it for anything.
