A new mom "friend" ( I put friend in quotes b/c we have had exactly 1 play date, and texted a few times about things like school parties) texted me last night at 11:14 PM to check if a date was good for her son's party - the last weekend in March. Like, could that have waited till today? I mean it's sweet that she wanted to make sure my kid could come (they've become tight this year) but to me a text at 11:14 PM should only be for emergencies!

My usual cut off for people I don't know well is 9:30 PM and not be 8 AM. Unless I know their schedule well.

cagoldi The 9pm rule is so true, not so much anymore cause I have the kids and Mom knows I'm busy but there was a time that I'd call after 9pm and she'd pick up like she was running out the door to get in her car and meet me at a hospital cause something must be wrong to be calling at 10pm.

If I have to call my parents or sisters that late, I have to start with, “everything is fine...”

If you get a text from me after 10pm, I'm either drunk or there is an emergency. Good luck deciding which is which!

Here’s the thing with calling/texting late. If it’s someone I don’t know I don’t call/text after 9, I thought that was just common courtesy. If it’s a friend that I know stays up late, then NBD texting them (or them texting me) after 9. If I get a text from anyone before like 7 then you’re on my shit list no matter what.
