Sorry you’re not feeling well, tgrimes jewels. @klongoria I wouldn’t use that tactic if you think she’s genuinely frightened, otherwise, I think it’s fine. She’s old enough to make that calculation if she wakes up MOTN, I think.

Oh yuck, I hope the meds kick in jewels. My ears were clogged up for a week or two a couple years ago and it was soooo annoying!

tgrimes I was reading through that thread yesterday as well and I vaguely remember who you are talking about. But I was actually thinking of starting a similar thread here, not really difference between there vs here, but more how/when did you come to post with N 13 and and when/why did you become a regular poster.

We had a pretty low-key weekend. Park Saturday morning, Wonder if Dinosaurs yesterday. Uneventful weekend until Dude emerged from his room last night to tell me his stomach hurt, then half a second later barfed all over the stairs and walls. Better than in his bed, I guess. I had him sleep with me in case he got sick again, and started my period so neither of us feels great today.
School starts up again and I think I am looking at thirty or so hours/week of class work.
I also had a fight with Pete, so that was not delightful. I need to process it so I will post in the group. I don’t usually like to get into too many details with the people who know him personally because I don’t want them judging him. Last night was so unbelievably over the top.

I used to let them have a camp out in the living room, but then Dude got old enough to recognize that if he throws up it equals sleeping on the couch and watching TV. No funsies now. Grab your pillow, go to my bed, and I’m coming up. We’re both going to sleep, no TV, I don’t care if it’s only 8:15.

*snip* Would it be bad of me to tell her if she doesn't sleep all night in her room by herself then she can't have the tablet at all the next day? She has no legitimate reasoning behind her not sleeping, her room is too dark, we get a brighter nightlight, now there's too much light, her nose is stuffed up, she is seeing shadows, etc. etc. I don't actually know how long this has been going on, since mh doesn't tell me every time he goes in there at night. But, her coming to bed with me started after she came home from Grandma's and she "couldn't get used to our house". *insert eye roll* Not bad at all. You're the adult, you make the rules.

vino how do the kids handle the goodby with YH? Do they realize it’s going to be a long time before they see him again or do they treat it like any other day he leaves for work? Sorry if that is too intrusive of a question...you can tell me to mind my own business if you like...I’m just curious.

klong11 I just wanted to add that there is an example in The Well Behaved Child about something similar. The kid needed someone to stay in the room with them until they fell asleep. The parent says it's fine for them to do that, if needed, but then tomorrow you won't get to do xyz. No fuss, no big deal about staying in the room. Just keep everything very calm. Then you have to actually follow through with no xyz. Eventually, the child stopped asking for them to stay in the room. It didn't happen right away and every once in awhile they'd still ask the parent to stay, but it did stop.

jewels and tgrimes I’m sorry you’ve both been feeling ill. No fun! Also I do not bring a puking kid into my bed. If anything, we stay on the couch because things are cleaned up much easier out there.

I’m having lunch at a restaurant across the street from the glass shop where I’m getting the new windshield. I am quite enjoying the peacefulness of a lunch alone!

This is random but my boss, who has a toddler and a 2 month old, recently had 4 days to himself while his wife took the kids to see her family. He was telling us how bored he was and how he didn't like it. (FTR he talks about how stressed out/tired he is raising a family normally.) I told him I would LOVE 4 days to myself to do whatever the hell I wanted! It sounded glorious.

Sorry if that is too intrusive of a question...you can tell me to mind my own business if you like...I’m just curious. Not intrusive at all! The kids were good! It was hella early for them as we got there at 6.15am, cold and we went to the base to a pseudo garage/gym like building to have 'family time' and say good bye. It was a sea of army men and women in combats and it was overwhelming for them. J declared by 7am 'we're going home' MH had to round up some folks and get to work anyways so we left. B cried while J was halfway out the door. They've been good and we skyped him yesterday so they were fine. I think that B understands he has to step up a bit because we had a whole discussion about what to do if something happens to me, since I'm the only adult while we are at home; if there is an emergency, who he has to call, what neighbours to go to, if the alarm get set off etc. So I think because he feels a little more responsible he is feeling the absence a little more.

vino I was wondering too. Glad they’re handling it okay. Ds becomes a sobbing mess (genuinely, not for drama) whenever my sister or we have to go home to Norway/the Netherlands. It is heartbreaking, it’s the only time I ever see my sister cry too, and usually I cave too... my goodness we must be a sight for sore eyes .

It didn't happen right away and every once in awhile they'd still ask the parent to stay, but it did stop. Ha, I was ready with a John Rosemond reference too. Also, in a lot of his columns I've read over the years, he'll recommend relying on "the doctor" to help with stuff like this. "Well, the doctor says that kids who do XYZ need ABC, so that means [no tablet tomorrow/early bedtime/<--consequence that makes sense with behavior]. Sorry, that's what the doctor said." Also klong11 If she's on the tablet at night, the stimulation may be causing some of her wakefulness, per various things I've read. If you haven't tried it, maybe cut that out at night before bed. 6 is plenty old enough to understand cause-and-effect, IMO.

Yep, nope, I have NEVER had that problem. Sorry, DH.

B is such a sweetheart, vino . Good little guy you’re raising. Aww thanks. We had the initial chats about the phone, the numbers, go to the neighbours etc early in the day and at dinner time he had follow up questions and he was concerned with what to do with Julia, I said that he could safely put her in her room and explain that you'd be back with 'neighbours name' and he immediately was like, no, I'll get her ready and she'll come with me. My heart about burst, J has no idea the commitment he has to her.

I have such a headcold. Like there’s a brick behind my nose, but last night it ran all night. Otherwise, It’s a pretty normal day here. Dropped the kids off at school, came home and I got rid of four garbage bags of stuff – mostly books, stuffed animals, and I started sorting through some of my pjs and undergarments. I want to try and do a sort of power hour of decluttering every day to see what can leave the house.

Feel better, tgrimes and jewels! Your poor H, @nam! I hope the meds help quickly! No puking kid in my bed— a little extra time on the couch and then up to the room with a bucket and all the cleaning supplies necessary. I don’t think I would like four days alone. Maybe one ... maybe two! Enjoy your solo lunch, lfig.
