cagoldi I love the automatic kid limits on the Kindle. They hand it over without complaint. You can also limit time for what type of activity they can do (videos, books, games). They've taught my kids more than I would ever think to teach them at this age. They use it a few days a week and rarely on weekends because we're always busy and on the go then. It's a free-for-all on road trips though.

Maybe I'll look into the fires for Christmas. The ipad drives me nuts because it's so big and since it's also my moms, there's alot on it. I would like to have more control.

klong11 M calls youtube "babies." I used to let her watch videos of babies laughing on it.

If there's one MLM I'm totally sucked into it's Usbourne books. They are the greatest. The girls have 2 human body ones and love them. Their favorite lift flap, of course, is where it reveals the poop. I went nuts last weekend when I saw stands at two different events and bought a bunch.

I'm too cheap to buy an iPad.
So what's the consensus?
Leappad, FIRE, Kindle?

cagoldi, Fire is a Kindle. Get one of those. I'm too cheap for an iPad as well. On Prime Day the regular one will be about $33. Get that, buy a case, and get a subscription to Kindle Freetime (it's something like $2/month). Freetime has tons of free education apps. Every Kindle allows you to use the kid's version where access is limited and you can place time limits.

V has a regular adult 8" tablet with an android operating system. He uses a few apps like the My Playhome series and watches YouTube with the parental controls engaged. He watches a lot of Mother Goose Club Playhouse.

Cher on the Fire, Maggie uses a Sesame Street app - maybe it's called Elmo's 123 or something? I have a totally ad-free, free one for my phone called ABC Kids and the numbers corollary is 123 Numbers. Maggie loves them.

Does he know how important that is right now? For them to have someone to read to them? Oh yeah, I don't know if he is just lazy or gives no shits. I'll bring it up and he will start reading to her again, but then it falls to the wayside again. So then, when I go in there to put her to bed I end up reading her 2-3 stories because she hasn't had storytime yet and refuses to go to bed without it. Although lately, she wants "stories out of your mouth"...where there is no book involved, you just tell her a story...but it has to be about her, otherwise it isn't a story she wants to hear. I still read books with her first, though and then after lights out I tell her one "out of my mouth". lol This is exactly us. He wants stories from my mouth. Only he tells me the basic plot points ahead of time. Like "Tell me a story about Batman and Superman at school". Then when I start to tell him the story, sometimes he'll interupt me to say " Transformers go to the school too... Tell me about them". Usually I read 1 story then tell 1 story with the lights out, like you. Then he wants 11 million more stories from my mouth.

Sing, or anyone, what tracing apps do you use? We bought handwriting with out tears. I'm not a big fan, but I like having an online app if she doesn't want to write on paper. I bought a kid's stylus as well. Eta: we have the Elmo 123 and ABC one as well, but it links to videos and coloring pages and J gets super distracted by it all.

We bought M a kids kindle fire and she's used it once. I need someone to fly to Houston, hold my hand & show me how to use the damn thing.

J just recently realized she can use Siri if she has my phone, so every so often she'll grab it and ask, "please show me picture of Dis-nairy (Disney) princesses." Or "chimpanzees, please!!" She's doing it now and cracking me up.

He watches a lot of Mother Goose Club Playhouse. +1. We got the tablet E uses when H got a new phone almost two years ago. It cost $50, plus $10 line charge a month on our phone plan. She always sits by one of us when she uses it. Now she just likes to tell us she isn't watching 'Bad Baby' videos. Because we make her change from those. Fuck those bad baby videos. Their parents should be ashamed of themselves. Although they're probably millionaires so they're doing something better than I am!

I'm a pw this afternoon. I didn't take out anything for dinner and I don't want to order in or go out. Ideas for something quick for everyone?

She's doing it now and cracking me up. E does that on her tablet, but she doesn't speak clearly, so she gets pissy when she never gets the results she's expecting. Fortunately nothing obscene has come up when she speaks incoherently, but I'm sure it's a matter of time.

Pretty much everything, but a protein -- that's all frozen. Although i do have eggs, tuna, and black beans. Maybe I'll make a frittata.

I have seen stories of parents who have found their kids watching, for example, a really horrible, graphic, adult episode of Peppa Pig that some asshole has uploaded to youtube, but nothing gives it away in the title.
