Happy belated 4th! Our vacation was a bust and we are heading home 4 days early. There is an awful stomach bug running through the cottage.... the cottage with ONE bathroom. Right now there are 5 people who have it. Lue also decided she hates sleep, I got the period from hell, I dropped my phone in the lake and I also fell in the lake. I would have abandoned vacation by now!

@wine, i'm so sorry. Are you there for the rest of the week? cheeksmum, I agree with everyone else about the food, but I'm wondering if waking him up earlier will start to reset his sleep schedule and he'll go to sleep earlier? And maybe, therefore, eat earlier? I don't like to mess with late morning sleeping like that (because it really is such a great thing!), but maybe he really isn't tired at 8:30 if he's sleeping so late.

Oh no wineallthetime! Did you guys avoid the stomach bug, at least? Safe travels heading home. @cheesksmum Like guster I also wondered about the late wake-up. That may also explain why he doesn't nap when his classmates do, b/c it's still so 'early' in the day for him. If it were me, I'd probably try to reset his schedule on a weekend--wake him up earlier in the morning, serve dinner around 6:30, then get him off to bed by 7:30/8. (For reference, we eat b/n 6:30-7, B goes straight to the tub afterwards, and is in bed and usually asleep by 8). Bonus: you'll have some downtime for yourself afterwards!

cheeksmum do you miss his tired window? I would feed him dinner asap and start bedtime when you get home. When we miss C's tired window, he ends up overtired and up all night.

cheeksmum, I give Cadence a snack in the car instead of waiting until we get home (even though we are literally 5 minutes from the dc). I also have a distinct food cutoff for her so that it isn't too close to bedtime. No food after 8, bedtime/storytime starts at 8:30. If you are close enough to home, you might skip the snack and make him his own dinner. Then he can eat while you make dinner for you and yh, then while you eat he can play. If he says he is hungry at bedtime, then give him something small, a glass of milk, a pouch, something like that.

cheeksmum I'm going to be the different one here and say that maybe he isn't tired at 8:30 if he's waking up at 9:30 in the morning. I realize every kid is different, but M gets up between 6:30 & 7 and usually goes to bed around 8:30. Have you considered waking him up earlier? I'd also either try to move dinner up and offer him a snack before bed. I know it can be hard to get dinner ready that early depending on what time you get home from work though.

Our Lake trip was a bust too wineallthetime! Although ours was only for 2 nights, and we just stayed 1 night. Monday was great. We got off work early and made it to the lake early enough to get some time in the water in. Then boated up for fireworks. Slept on the boat. Life was good. Then yesterday sucked ass. Our friend that was camping in the campground by the marina we were in locked his keys in his trunk and all his scuba gear was locked in there as well. So we spent all morning dealing with that. They finally got them out without having to call a locksmith. Meanwhile MH and S were both not feeling well, it poured all day. We decided to venture out at one point during a clearing and managed to get caught in the worst downpour of all complete with sideways rain (thank god for the cabin of the boat, that's where S and I hung), then the boat broke down (we had at least made it back to the marina) and we had to have it towed into the ramp. We loaded it up and headed home. Got home at 10 last night. But this morning S slept till 8 which is a miracle of all miracles ( you all remember my bitching about her 4-5 am wake ups?). And now we are about to start cleaning up the inside of the boat which is a disaster from yesterday and every thing in it is a wet mess 😬 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thank you everyone!
N typically does 10-12 hours awake (stopped napping before he was 2) and 12-14 hours asleep so it makes sense that wouldn't be tired before 9 but unfortunately changing wake up time is difficult... I leave the house around 7am, DH starts work at 11 so he's in charge of morning routine/drop off. Unless I take over drop off again I can't see it changing.
I've tried talking to him about getting up earlier but because he "works so late" (9:30pm) he doesn't want to. N starts school in September so I'm hoping that will change his schedule since school starts at 9.
I'm definitely going to try cooking something for N right when we get home and then myself after. I think I will serve him leftovers from my meals the day before. That way he's getting the nutritious meals with little to no wait time.

I wouldn't mess with that wake up time cheeksmum! Yea, I love it for weekends! Just sucks that I get 0 time to myself because I'm exhausted by the time he finally falls asleep.

IDK, I assume he's probably hungry, cheeksmum. That sounds like sort of a small breakfast and Dude usually has two snacks during the day, not just 1. I'd try front-loading so his earlier meals are more substantial, and moving up dinner if possible. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
