We had a really nice 4th today. We got our Americana on and watched The Sandlot, let DS eat a corn dog for lunch (he loved it), went to the outside playground, and watched 4K fireworks videos with DS. Next is NC style BBQ dinner prepared by DH. All and all a good day!

Happy 4th!
We have a pretty laid back day planned. We're going to a parade and kids activities around noon, taking a break at home for a few hours, then going to listen to live music and attempt fireworks tonight!

Morning! We're going to MIL's after she gets out of work, but otherwise we're having a lazy day.
We're on day two of potty training. It's going better than the last attempt so far.

Morning. Parade and BBQ shortly. Middle kid is still sleeping. Fireworks last night must have been to much for her.

LO is sick. she spiked a fever yesterday and her nose is running like crazy. Totally came out of no where! She has never really been sick besides a few colds but this is definitely more than that. Poor thing. Rough night and I'm sure today will be rough too

ok Taitai, here is the Tank family saga of July 3rd. Spoilered because long. The plan: Spend the day together as a mommy and me day, since H was working late and he had a work emergency so he had to go in. I had wonderful visions of pretending to be a SAHM while we strolled through the park blissfully ooing and ahhing over the animals. Then we would have a nutritious lunch, before heading home for a long nap. After nap we would have dinner before heading down to the 4th of July festivities in town where we would share my annual fried dough. We would leave around 7pm ,before it got crazy, and K would fall into bed and instantly sleep. I would finish the day by sipping hard seltzer on the front lawn and trying to watch the fireworks from my house. It would be a magical, wonderful day where I would say to myself at the end "This day couldn't have been more perfect"
Backstory: We first headed to target so I could pick up a new reusable water bottle, as mine was leaking. I was also hoping to pick one up for K. It was going to be hot and I didn't bring any milk because I knew it would get nasty and warm regardless of the icepack I usually put in the diaper bag. We get to Target and they don't have the ones I'm looking for but they have something similar. They have one for K that is completely spill proof. It says ages 3+ on the label, which I thought was weird since it's a water bottle. We get back to the car and I go to give K a sip from it and realize she needs to bite it in order to drink (that's how it's spill proof and 3+). It takes some practice but she finally figures it out. At lunch time I end up replacing the water in the cup with the rest of her milk from lunch, since she hasn't been drinking that much and it's stupid hot out.
The zoo: The good - We had an amazing time looking at all the animals and she ran around for close to 5 hours. It took K sometime to warm up to it though. The pictures I got of her at the beginning have her with this look on her face that says "WTF is this shit you brought me to now mom". Her favorite animals at the zoo... the ducks. the mother fucking ducks. Seriously kid?! Out of all the animals you are losing your shit over the ducks! I did get to see the Lynx kittens and they were so fucking adorable. They look like regular house kittens. So stinking cute.
The bad: While we were looking at the Lynx kittens one last time before going home, I was talking with one of the zoo employees about the kittens and I look down to see K completely covered in milk. The stroller is covered in milk. The under basket and the diaper bag are covered in milk. I am not prepared for this at all so I look around and practically beg a total stranger to watch my daughter while I run up and get 10,000 napkins. This kind woman (seriously a saint) says "no problem" and holds my sopping wet milky child as I run up the longest hill ever to the cafe to get napkins. I come back and try to make headway on the damage. I clean up as much as possible, strip my kid down to her diaper, thank the woman profusely, and then beeline it to the exit. I get to the car that is a billion degrees, change K into a non soaking wet diaper, and put her in the carseat. I fold up the stroller and go to put it in the car and milk pours out of the stroller and into my trunk. I... did not handle that as well as everything else. I called my H and practically beg him to come home. He says he can leave at normal time and not stay late so I go home all the while fantasizing about just lighting everything on fire instead of having to deal with milk in 90 degree heat.
Home: The good - K napped for almost 3 hours and I was able to figure out how to disassemble the stroller to clean it. The bad - My million fucking dollar stroller is handwash only (SERIOUSLY???!!!) so I spent a half hour washing it in the tub. K gets up from her nap at 4:30 and when I go to pick her up her shirt is soaked. I usually leave a water bottle in the crib on hot days so I think maybe she spilled some, but nope, it's pee. I check her mattress and it's covered in pee. I check her diaper and it is bone dry, except for one of the tabs on the outside. Somehow, and I have no idea how, when she peed it completely missed the diaper and hit the outside? So I have to strip her bed and wash her sheets.
Fireworks: The good - MH came home early enough so we could go to the 4th celebration in town. We ended up hanging out with the family of one of K's DC classmates. She loved the fried dough and we got her one of those glow necklaces to wear. They had a blast and she was really good so we stayed for the fireworks. For our small town, the fireworks display is on point every year we have been, and this year did not disappoint. K sat on our lap and didn't whine once. Not one meltdown. I was really impressed with how well she behaved given how tired she must have been after walking so much since we didn't have the stroller. The bad - After the fireworks are over we get to the car and I put her in her seat. She's wearing the necklace, so I tell her she can't wear it around her neck, but she can hold it. We should only be in the car about 10 minutes since we live so close and I figure she'll be asleep in 2 minutes. She's been really good with the glow necklace and hasn't put it near her mouth once. So we get in the line of traffic to leave the parking lot, and traffic is at a complete stand still. I hear a whine from the back of the car saying "binkie, binkie". The whine gets louder, and since we aren't going anywhere fast, I get out of the car to find where she threw her binkie. I open her door and start looking in her seat for her binkie and I realize she is glowing. I look and sure enough, she bit through the necklace and the glow stuff is all over her. She is actively crying now. I swear, loudly, and go to grab her bottle from the front seat so she can wash her mouth out. I know from experience that those things are non toxic. It's messy and tastes bad, but it won't do any harm. She starts screaming, and I mean full on pain screaming. There is something wrong. I yell to MH K is in serious trouble. I rip her out of the car seat, thinking she cut herself on the plastic and it's at this point that I realize that she got that glow stuff in her eyes! I know it's non toxic if you eat it, but I have no idea what it could do to your eyes. She screaming so loud at this point, it sounds like (insert really awful image of something horrible happening to your kid here). Mh hands me the water bottle we have and I dump it full on in her face. She's still screaming so I tell MH I'm going to get help and I take off with her over the torn up dirt parking lot to the fire station the next street over. I flag down some cop volunteers on the way and word vomit what happened. The guy looks at me like I have 3 heads and says "you need to flush her face with water". Now, K and I are both soaking wet, standing in a construction zone with no one around but these two cop volunteers, and my kid is screaming her face off. There is no fucking water to be found. I scream at him "I ALREADY DID THAT, I DON'T HAVE ANY MORE WATER, I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!". A magic fucking light bulb must have gone off in his head at this point because he says "come with me to the fire station right over there". Cool bro. Thanks. We get to the fire station and I word vomit again what happened. By this time MH is running up to my side, after four wheeling my honda fit over a giant pile of dirt to get around traffic. The guys at the fire station were awesome. They immediately took K to the sink and flushed her face. One of the guys, calmed me down, telling me that it happened to a guy earlier that day, and that it only stings a bit but does no damage. I had to laugh. I felt like such an idiot. I can remain calm and cool with other people's injuries, but as soon as K screams like that all my cool headedness goes out the window. They put in a call to EMS just to be sure. By the time they got there (busy night so we were low priority), K was running around and singing. We finally got her home and in bed by 10:30.
So that's my saga. All and all it was a great day with just some craziness stuck in. Mh and I spent over an hour last night trying to replicate the milk incident with the new camelbak bottle we got her, but we could not for the life of us figure out how the hell she did it.

Jaysus sheilathetank. That is a fourth of July you will never forget. She will be 40 and you'll still have flashbacks of her glow and scream. I'm so sorry it was such a nightmare of a day.

DH put up our tent in the backyard last night. We do this every year, but usually only DH and LBB sleep in it. This year the whole family "camped out." It went surprisingly well.
DH is itching for a project, so I think he's going to clear out a dead tree today and work on the area so we can stick a lemon tree in its place.
The pool is blown up and filled, we've got watermelon, hot dogs, carne asada, pollo asada, baked beans, potato salad, 2 kinds of salsa, and I'll make guacamole. There's beer and margarita fixings. We're ready!

We started off the day with an extended toddler meltdown over a plastic golf club that he wanted to play with that MIL took away from him.
But eventually we got to the parade and he had a blast. After that he ate ice cream and chicken fingers for lunch and now he's napping. Pretty good day for the kid.
Wish I could nap too but the baby is having none of that 😔

Hope your LO feels better jewel. I'm Canadian so today is just another day over here. Went into work for a few hours this morning and H just took DS to he splash pad, while I stay home with a sleeping DD. I'm excited to have an hour or so to myself and will be doing nothing but sitting on my couch with the remote in hand, which never happens!

I made mac and cheese to take to the bbq and I think I oversalted it :/ Hopefully the bbq and everything else is sweet enough no one will notice...
But they probably will, because my ILs salt nothing. We're all on the brink of a heart attack and must be spared from the evils of sodium. Maybe the kids will eat it.
Storms last night kept waking E up. The smallest rumbles of thunder scared the shit out of her. I eventually brought her into the guest room with me and she snuggled so, so close. Poor thing. She was out pretty quickly. But she was having none of that mess. So I'm guessing fireworks aren't really going to be her thing yet.

I have to share this so I remember it. BH's "scary face" involves him putting his hands over his eyes (palms out) and wiggling his fingers. Don't ask me why, but it is.
We're sitting outside after lunch when BH disappears until the garage and comes out carrying all the finger paints. We tell him "we're not painting right now" and he throws them all on the ground. We tell him "you need to pick those up and put them back." He gives us both a death stare, then starts doing the scary face. I'm not sure what his end game was, like was he trying to scare or threaten us? it It wasn't effective. DH and I started laughing so hard.

Just a normal day here. DH has been off for 5 days so DS2's schedule is all out of whack. DS1 has a sprained ankle and telling him he needs to chill is... challenging. Someone decided he'd be a genius and walked off the damn couch the other day

Today was nice and uneventful with a picnic at the ILs. K is so beyond overtired at this point and has been fighting sleep for the past hour. Right now she's in her crib yelling binkie at the top of her lungs. She has two in there so I'm not falling for it. 😊
