The one of the lady giving up on the keys is me...but instead of keys...basically anything on the ground 😅😂 Is it weird that I was stretching yesterday and was able to still touch my toes? I do have some long arms tho, I'm sure that plays a gigantic part. But putting on belted sandals is difficult. 🤷🏼♀️

I need a thread to complain about OPP - other people's parenting. But I bet that's just the entire parenting board and I should wait until I have kids to judge the parents who keep their 1 and 2 year old up partying till 11 with adults who are all drinking right ? I would join you in this thread if you started one here! I would have so many contributions....

Meh, judge away. I judge too. I'm sure I'll be eating my words in a few years, haha. But for now I will judge away.

Idk it's situational for me. If it's a holiday and I'm around close family/friends, I could see it happening. But either me or MH would have to be sober.

I wasn't so mad about the drinking no one was super drunk. . I was just getting rage inside. Like put them to bed ! They are so crabby adult time is 8pm plus the parents were snapping at each other accusing the other of not watching them. I have a solution! They should go to bed ! I would have definitely brought a pack n play or something to put them in to sleep if we were planning on being there past bedtime. I get it. I get raged when I see parents who have their babies out at 1am here. Nothing good comes out of having LOs out passed their bed times while out on the strip. I'll never understand that one.

I get raged when I see parents who have their babies out at 1am here. Nothing good comes out of having LOs out passed their bed times while out on the strip. I'll never understand that one. Host offered them pack and plays and pj for both kids. And the parents were like nah no big deal. Brought nothing no intentions to put them to bed. Maybe it's impossible or difficult to put your kids to bed other places ? I don't understand the problem. I just don't think it's good for them to be up that late. My H was saying it was no big deal. Maybe this will be my hill to die on. Regular bedtime? Or at least an attempt at it and stability and routine at night. Maybe next year I will come back and be embarrassed I posted this. But it was like the millionth time they have done this and I'm like you know what this annoys me. This happens often for this couple? I was up late with my mom for holidays and remember just falling asleep on couches. You have to do what you're comfortable with. At the BBQ I was at on Monday, the two women who had babies just left around 8 to put them to bed. But I don't think I'd think twice about it if they stayed till 10 like the rest of us. Unless the kids were meltdown city. But with my own, I might never deviate from bedtime. Only time will tell. Lol

My motto the first time around, and still to this day "Never say never as a parent." Before my first, I swore up and down that I'd NEVER give my kid Uncrustables or anything non organic. "It's not that hard to feed your kid healthy foods!" LOLOLOLOLOL

Here is what I have to say about bedtimes/different parenting styles. Soooo...in Asia (esp where I live), the culture for many many many people here is - no bedtimes! Let the kids run until the batteries wear out (so to speak). It's not uncommon to hear of kids that have never had a schedule or bedtime their whole lives...3, 4, and 5 year olds that regularly stay up until midnight and then need to be up at 6 or 7am for school. I see toddlers regularly drinking soda or coffee from sippy cups at like 6pm...and about 90% of the population here does not use car seats. Everyone co-sleeps as well, and everyone believes sleep training is extremely cruel - god forbid you let your kid cry it out (CIO). The judgement is real on CIO. So basically - it's a totally different parenting environment from what you would see in the USA or Australia or something.
I personally think it's not good or healthy for the kids to have such little sleep...sleep is really important for them to grow and develop. Because I feel that way, I try to make sure DS gets the recommended amount for his age, and we never, ever stay out past his bedtime (7pm). Like, the latest DS has ever been out is 8pm and that was for a Christmas party. I know a lot of my local, non-western friends think I am crazy for keeping such a strict sleep schedule with DS. I figure that entitles me to also think they're crazy for not having bedtimes for their kids. 😅😅
Do I judge the parents for doing things that I don't agree with over here? Yes - all the friggin time. That's because I honestly think I am correct on the sleep, diet, and car seat stuff. That said - do I understand that how they choose to raise their kids is totally their right and not my business? Yep! So, I've just kind of accepted the differences - I can't change the culture over here, and they definitely can't change my parenting style.
That was long...TL;DR - I say it's fine to judge - just realize people will also judge you for some of your decisions....it's simply a part of being a parent in society I think.

I think that's a really good way of explaining it, Taitai. I know DH and I judge his cousins for things they do with their kid, like bedtime. But ultimately it's on them to deal with the cranky hot mess toddler when he stays up too late. SD has always been a kid that needs a set bedtime and lots of sleep. She's a straight jerk without it. But we've had 11 years to figure it out with her. The next kid may be totally different, and we'll deal with it as it comes.

Taitai, I'm so with you on sleep being very important, especially in the years the brain in forming. That is interesting to learn about the Asian culture on raising kids. MH talks about when he went to Bali and family's of 5+ would be riding on one scooter and kids just holding on to whatever they could. 😬

alwayscheese Welcome! Happy to have you here! @easilyunamused Oh yes - the entire family on a motorbike, plus the dog, no helmets - that is par for the course in Southeast Asia. I was shocked that even in South Korea (which I consider first world and has infrastructure similar to the USA) most families never use car seats. Wuuuuuut? I think Japan is the only country out here where car seats are legally required and actually used by everyone. 😬

My mood swings are intense. I cried all the way to work. That's like an hour of crying because of sad news stories on the radio. And I just got 0 to 11 rage because I thought some one was touching the microwave while my food was in there. I was wrong. I am now laughing at myself and and in a wonderful mood. Feels like I am losing my mind Hormonal pregnancy emotions are not to be trifled with. I cried a few weeks ago over a new excel template at work that I didn't like. I knew it was ridiculous while I was crying - still couldn't stop. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I have gotten to the point where I will cry at random over nothing sometimes even and cam go from 0 too what feels like 20 on the rage or frustration scale in half a heartbeat. And back to laughing at myself or whatever in the same time frame. I feel ridiculous sometimes LOL!

So.... We may be buying a new (to us anyway, it's a 1.5yo occasion with just barely 18 miles on the odo) car today! We were looking into buying a 2nd car these past months but then I unexpectedly lost my job and we put it on the backburner as we suddenly didn't really need a 2nd car. We currently drive a '07 toyota corolla hatchback which we both still love but well with baby on the way.... a BIGGER car wóuld be nice! Instead of buying it as a 2nd car we'll likely end up trading in our current one though, MH doesn't need a car to commute and I'll be a SAHM for the foreseeable future now. So no use to have one sitting in the street as an ornamental piece we pay road tax, insurance and maintenance on! Aaaanyhooo we're be going for a test drive and all later this afternoon. I'm a bit of an anxious mess for some reason (I blame hormones!) LOL! Ohh btw it's a Toyota Auris Hybrid Touring Sports (stationwagon) like this, in very dark grey.

muscari That's exciting! I love Toyotas - especially hybrids. The extra room on that model looks really useful and I like the sleek design. Good luck at the test drive today! Also, we are a one car family, and I love it. No regrets!
