that's my only issue with Instacart. I wish I could pay a deposit to get reusable bags and then return them instead of all the plastic. Plus they knot the bags so you can't really reuse them.

Massachusetts wants to ban single use plastic bags and also charge 10 cents to people who want a paper bag. Basically forcing people to carry a reusable shopping bag. I think this is a good thing. The comments on social media are something. Basically people are acting like this is the worst thing. It's so haaaaard to remember a bag! Government can't tell me not to pollute the world! Too many taxes! I can't even. I thought this was already a thing. It was when I was in Cambridge and Boston in July. I wound up buying a couple of reusable bags bc between 4 days in Boston and 5 days in San Francisco it was really helpful. And who can't use more reusable bags? I think Cambridge had already passed their own ban as a city

I just booked a work trip to DC in Jan...I haven't traveled for work since #2 was born and I'm excited.
Thought it was relevant b/c DC.

Along the lines of plastic vs reusable bags, I'm all in favor of paper straws *if* straws are needed at restaurants. That's another change that gets people all in a tizzy. Similarly I was in another MA town that unknown to me had banned single serving water bottles when I asked at a coffee shop if they had any. I was annoyed by the ban but also totally understood. Just hadn't prepared well that day.

I'll really only be there for 36 hours and have a feeling I'll be fed. Somewhere in Georgetown though, at the Fairmont. Of course now I feel like I should tack on another night just to hang out.

I did just realize its the day before the women's march. But unsure how flexible they are with flights (have to go through a travel agent and not my own company)

Y'all. So I was talking to a woman I know in town, and she said that she tried to call George Holding's office (NC-2) about a Town Hall. They basically said they don't do them and hung up on her.
So I called. They said that Town Halls are strictly a campaign function and he's not LEGALLY ABLE or required to hold one. I mean, he wouldn't want to hold one, break the law and get in trouble, right?
Y'ALL.

I’m kind of surprised places like NY and CT are just getting this. I’m glad it’s catching on but just kind of surprised it’s taken this long. Maybe big cities had it first? It started in SF for us and then extended county by county. Parts of NY have had it for a while. Where I live it's been in place for about 2 years. I still forget my bags every once in awhile, especially if it's a non grocery store. But I refuse to pay .05 for a plastic bag so I just carry my things then 🤷♀️

In my experience the baggers will get used to it as more and more people use them. I remember what you are talking about when it first came to CA and also when I used them in GA. It’s definitely a different bagging strategy. We still have plastic bags in the produce aisle. I try to save mine in my reusable bags so I get multiple uses out of each one. I also have a couple reusable produce bags but I find those a little difficult on cashiers because they can’t always see the number sticker. I refuse to use self checkout unless I have no other option. I bought reusable produce bags and I love them. Now I only get plastic bags for meat that is leaky. ETA: That sounds smug to me. Didn't mean it to be. I was excited when I found the bags at my grocery store. 😂 My life is so boring I got a free one at my farmer’s market the other day and I was thrilled so I’m right there with you.

I have been using a cruise forum to plan a trip soon and there are constantly people bitching about paper straws. It is something

Plastic straws are banned here. They hand out paper straws. I do believe some places might have plastic straws upon request for people who have disabilities that make using no straw or paper straws difficult. I am mixed on plastic straw bans. I think the issues for people with disabilities is a strong reason to proceed with caution. But overall I’m glad it’s made me and my family change our straw habits, which is positive.

It was only after the state assembly ousted enough republicans and dems who were basically voting as a Republican block, and a state wide ban was introduced and passed, that he signed it.

I saw this and it made me so sad. We often focus on the fatal victims and rightly so, but the ramifications of gun violence are so wide reaching and vast. This woman likely suffered every day due to her injuries. May she Rest In Peace.

I forgot about the challenge of paper straws for those with disabilities. I want to clarify my tizzy comment that I mean those who are simply upset because it feels different to get their drink through paper or via the cup directly. Tizzy seems a little shallow for the challenges some may face with the plastic straw ban.

Tomorrow is going to be a big day. Does Sondland start at 9est too?
As for the debates, I'd really like to avoid discussion of all this impeachment and more on the candidates' positions for different policies. That Wash Post quiz posted in the speculation thread was helpful to see how everyone aligns with different issues.

I know I’m just tired from everything, but I’m just like OH MY GOD we’ve already had 4 debates. And I am over hearing about some of the topics, even healthcare which is my life. There’s just not much more to say In a debate setting.

Ooooooooohhhh Somebody is challenging Gym Socks Jordan for his seat! It feels relevant to share I used to visit a goat at a farm that had ears that looked just like floppy white gym socks. So I always called him gym socks. They are probably related.
