What was the Legion supposed to do? People were contacting them. I saw a response that was something along the lines of the Legion should stay out of politics. How the fuck can they do that when they get dragged into the mess?
I also think their statement was classy.
I don't know Canadian free speech laws, but I'm assuming they are similar to the U.S. Free speech doesn't mean free from consequences. He said what he wanted. He can deal with the fallout. I cry no tears for his hateful soul.
I do feel badly for the Legion and I hate that this happened on Remembrance Day.

Exactly, but my god, the people are up in arms Caucasus they let him go, and oh he didn't mean it that way.. He proved it by a) not apologizing, and b) showing his true colors by going on fox..

I do not feel bad for him whatsoever. He has said many many inappropriate things in the past - this certainly wasn’t the first.
Of course the two white extremely privileged AF males in my office went on and on about how Cherry was right in what he said/shouldn’t have been fired/etc. The same two who love trump and think he’s the greatest thing since sliced bread for the world (we live in Canada).
It is a daily struggle at work to deal with their bullshit.

I'm glad that the majority of my friends see it for what it is, however there are still too many arguing "all he said was that everyone should wear a poppy and respect our veterans" making me want to bang my head against the wall because they obviously have zero clue what he actually said but are choosing to support him anyway (or worse they know what he said and are fine with changing the narrative).

I can’t bold but your last sentence is likely more true I think. Like the supporters are saying but he didn’t LITERALLY SAY immigrant! And plus also some immigrants are white! Why you gotta make this about race!!1! So they’re being deliberately obtuse IMO. There’s no other way to explain away what he said, and the way he said it. Even when DC said “oh whoops I should have said “everybody”” well no the sentiment is the same, asshole. Good riddance.

I think it’s very easy to interpret what he said in different ways because like 95% of the time he’s on the air, he tends to go off on tangents and doesn’t complete sentences or thoughts and it’s almost impossible to understand what he is saying, and he just yells it anyway. I stopped finding him insightful or even entertaining so I didn’t even see this live because I stopped watching him and think he should have been taken off the air a long time ago. He’s said so many problematic things in the past he used to be on a delay, I’m guessing he wasn’t any more if this was broadcast, or someone was sleeping on the job. I think he’s done a lot of really great things for hockey, including supporting women’s hockey and I don’t think this should overshadow that, but I also don’t think he should be given a pass because of all the good he’s done either.
