I'm so, so tired of the "let's drop this and get back to work" narrative.

Nunes: Democrats are politicizing the whistleblower process ummmmmmm hard no there buddy These are the same fucks who refer to calls for gun reform after mass shootings as politicizing. So they can go kick rocks.

Actually no, Congressman, I would argue that the Electoral College, not the American people, had its say in the 2016 election. Also Vladimir Putin. They like to neglect the little fact that he didn't win the popular vote.

It's nice to say you respect the committee but Imma wait and see how obstinate you are during questioning before I decide whether I believe you.

No, Republicans, "Congressional Oversight" does not mean Congress overlooks and ignores whatever the fuck the president does.
YOU ARE LITERALLY A CHECK ON THE PRESIDENCY, IT'S RIGHT THERE IN THE FUCKING CONSTITUTION.

Maguire: "No one can take an individual's integrity away. It can only be given away...my integrity has never been questioned until now. I'm here today to unequivicolly state that as DNI, I will...adhere to the Constitution and to the laws of this country...I want to make it clear that I HAVE upheld my responsibility....I also want to state my support for the whistleblower, and for his rights and the laws"

Maguire: "We were immediately struck by the fact that...the complaint was about a call between POTUS and a foreign leader. Such calls are usually subject to Executive Privilege...that I do not have the authority to waive. " So he is arguing that he acted lawfully by going to WH Counsel instead of directly to HPSCI

Why is it that they first asked WH council for guidance on how to deal with the complaint? Of course they are going to claim privilege.

Trump releasing the memorandum allowing them to release the whole complaint. Ha. Take that.
He actually called for executive privilege because of course he did.

Maguire is making the case for his behavior quite well. I can see his point. It doesn't change the fact that this is absolutely wrong and damaging to our country and national security.

oh, just a note to anyone who doesn't usually read our live blogs in here, my general rule is to use quotation marks when I'm direct quoting, but if somethign is not in quotes it is paraphrasing or sometimes just general riffing as I become increasingly agitated by Nonsense Agitated by nonsense is my mood for the year. Would be great on a coffee cup

The whistleblower statutes never contemplated that the whistle would need to be blown on the president himself or herself so there was no clear statutory course of action

This system sucks. WTF is the point of a whistleblower process if they take it to WH council and go "hey bros, should we pass this along?" and let the president's attorneys decide what to do?

Maguire is making the case for his behavior quite well. I can see his point. It doesn't change the fact that this is absolutely wrong and damaging to our country and national security. We need to redefine executive prilivege and codify it so that it can't be so flagrantly abused.
