My brother gave my kids his XBox 365 and a ton of games (he saved the GTA type games for us grownups). My 8 yo is into Skate 3, and the 11 yo is having fun with Fable and Assassin's Creed. H bought himself Red Dead Redemption.
I liked Ninetendo 20+ years ago. All the Marios and Donkey Kong Country on N64 and Mario Kart on Wii.... That is my pace. I get confused and a little motion sick with these new open world first-person 3D style games.
So tell me, what is a good way to dip my toes in these waters? I am way behind the skill level of everyone in my family so I don't think I can play with them. But I want to participate. Help me find something to start with that I can handle!

I liked the Lego games. Lego Star Wars is the best (in my opinion). I also really liked the Dragon Age series...but I'm not sure if that would trigger your motion sickness.

We don't xbox but i have similar issues for video games. I would avoid first person gamea entirely. I have nwver had issues with third peraon perspectives, like the Lego games. The Banjo Kazooie games may be good too. They are similar to mario in play style.

Get IloMilo!!!! You can play it alone, but I played it with H and it's so cute and fun! It's a puzzle game and it's seriously amazing!
The Forza games are a lot of fun. They're racing games, but so much better than most racing games.

+1 to the Lego games. I'm a terrible gamer, actually I wouldn't even call myself a gamer because I'm so bad but I enjoy the Lego games.

I think you are right about third person vs first person — I watched H play a third person game and did not have the motion sickness issue.
