So all our babies will be born at the beginning of cold/flu season. How are you guys going to handle the relatives that want to visit, but don't get the flu shot or aren't up to date on their TDAP?
My mom got the TDAP before DD was born but never gets the flu shot. She's fine with staying away if she's sick, but it's possible to carry it but not get sick right?

I hadn't really thought that far ahead. I think the only family I have that would visit would be my sister and her family and they should all be up to date on TDaP because my nephew is 3. I don't know if they get the flu shot.

My mom and grandma, who will both be staying at different times for extended visits and to help, both got the tDap for DD and get the flu shot yearly. My dad also got the tDap when DD was born. My family spent a lot more time/close contact with us though then my inlaws - who don't really believe in all of the vaccines (just some of them?!?) so we limit our contact with them anyway when baby is little.

We didn't ask anyone to get the tdap last time (and I'll be the only one to get it since DH got his ~3 years ago).
I think the grandparents tend to get the flu shot, but I don't know about everyone else.
DS was born in Feb and I didn't do anything about restricting visits. No one was really sick at the time, so it was a non-issue. I feel like he's more likely to get something from big brother's daycare germs 😂😒

There have been a few outbreaks of pertussis (I'm in CA) and DD was born in ND during winter and we didn't really go anywhere. I'm just worried about him getting sick since CA has people who are very anti-vax

The anti-vax reminds me that I recently learned that many of the ladies who frequent the Facebook group for this breastfeeding support group are anti-vax. Ugh. The LC holds a weekly free group where you can do weighed feedings and get advice and general support. I went with DS, but now that I know about the anti-vaxxers I'm not sure that I'll go this time. Then again, maybe they're all online and the in person group is more sane.

Would it be worth while to get the flu shot in late Sept/early October? I had mine last year, and will get it again.

Seemed like the perfect time to me. I have a feeling my OB or MFM will have me get it with the TDap before 2.0 is born.

I'm planning on getting the flu shot whenever my OB has them. DD will get hers too especially since she's around other kids at preschool and since H is military they always make sure he's up to date on vaccinations

First - I have to say that I can't stand the anti-vaccination movement. It is so ignorant, selfish, and dangerous for people to refuse vaccinating their children per CDC and AAP guidelines. Period. I know a few crazies who subscribe to the vaccination conspiracy theories and read crap posted on Infowars from Alex Jones and the like. Those people are not allowed to see my babies unless they get TDAP, flu shot, and have their kids vaccinated. I guess that's my hill, and I don't compromise on it. Luckily we live on the other side of the world - so avoiding the few anti-vaxxers we know is pretty easy 😅.
The country I live in has compulsory vaccination requirements, so it's really nice that we don't have to worry about this issue here. Our nanny will get the flu shot/TDAP booster, and our immediate family all got their TDAP boosters when DS was born - I think those last for at least 5 yrs. So we should be set on that for when immediate family come out in the winter to see the new baby. I also plan to make sure all visitors have their flu shots, esp since they will be traveling in confined planes for 24 plus hours to get here. Do not want them bringing the flu from America as a present for the new baby!

Anyone actually holding my baby will be vaccinated. Anyone with symptoms of any kind are not welcome until at least the 2 month vaccinations. Most likely longer. I'm mean like that. Luckily all grandparents work in medical fields, so they will be vaccinated.

With DS, he was born in August so my main concern was TDAP. I knew my parents and my in-laws would see him a lot, so I asked them all to get their TDAP, and they did. So they should be good for #2.
Hadn't really thought about the flu shot for #2 though. My mom, who will be my nanny for DS and #2, doesn't get the flu shot because she thinks she's allergic to raw eggs. DH and I will definitely get it, and I can ask our other parents/siblings to get it. I think there exists an egg-free flu vaccine but I don't think it is commonly available at most places.

DD was born in July so DH got TDAP and I made everyone including the grandparents get the flu shot as she could not get it until January. This time, DH is up to date with TDAP so I will probably again insist on flu shots. And if they don't, they can just not visit- simple as that! (My mother has a tendency to do what she wants despite my requests so that will probably be directed at her)

I'm not super worried, pretty much everyone has their vaccines up to date and we don't hang out with anti-vaxxers. DD will be going to daycare or in a part time preschool program so it's her germs I'm more worried about than family or friends.

DS1 & DS2 will be the germ gift givers in our house!
I hate it. Little babies getting really sick is awful and potentially dangerous.
DS2 was October. It wasn't as bad as I was expecting bc when they are that little they aren't touching. It gets worse when the babies start with toys and stuff. If you are sick you can't come over. If you don't want to wash your hands before holding my newborn and you will want the baby to hold your finger sorry - you can't hold the baby.
Since my new baby is a late Jan baby I'm worried bc Feb is always our worst sickness month. The good news is I can keep my older kids away from the baby when the baby is that young and if BF works again that really helps especially in the beginning. We have a nanny instead of D.C. which may help though my boys will likely negate that factor a bit!
Flu shots for everyone in my family. Though DH got his shot last year and still got the flu. Still flu shots.

Besides talking about TV shows and what alcohol I like to drink talking about germs is my favorite topic.
