A had his first swimming lesson. A guy was filling in, he was clueless, it was fairly pointless. A was relaxing by the end, so that was fun. After next week, H will take over taking him, because I’m back to the pumpkin patch.

September, woof.
I'm so sad to go to work for real this week. I'm so sad about my job pulling a fast one on me. I know I'll love the kids and still have fun, but it's like a million percent just not what I want and it's crushing me. Teaching is so personal and I chose to teach health for such personal reasons that I believe so deeply about. It just makes me feel a lot of ways to have that taken from me in such a way.
Sorry I've been such a downer about it.

Sorry I've been such a downer about it. I’m sorry. I get it. I’m super passionate about the content I teach, and teaching a completely different subject would definitely take away some of that passion for me. I hope it works out for you.

I’m sorry cnf. I totally get it. I went to the local amusement park this morning and randomly bumped into one of my friends from college. Like, she lives 3 hours away and came to do the park with her family. So that was fun. And then a little while longer I bumped into my coworker. E fell and bumped his head AGAIN. This boy serious needs a helmet or something. This time he nailed it right on our tv stand.

I’m sorry cnf. I started my new job a couple of weeks ago and I’m not super thrilled about it. I’m hoping that I’ll end up liking it more once I’m off orientation- the workflow is pretty complicated and I just don’t like feeling incompetent. I hope you have a really great group of kids and that other aspects of your job are awesome to make up for that fact that you don’t love the subject matter.

Happy September. I need to check in here more often, especially now that Lauren is kicking my butt on weekly Fitbit challenges.

I guess you tough it out this year and keep looking for next year. pootsen, I'm sure you'll get the hang of it eventually. I haven't had a new job in almost ten years so I'd definitely feel awkward in any new position now.

Hi, ladies! I have 17 minutes left to be on call for work, and I haven’t been called in. 🎉
We are having some friends over soon. Just grilling hot dogs and setting up the kiddie pool for the kids. It has been a pretty relaxing weekend that we all desperately needed.

H switched shifts with someone tonight and something about Saturday,, plus his day off changed from Thurs to Tues. He didn’t see that DS1 had a dr appt and so now I get to drag all the boys in and everyone will be late for school instead of just him. Already preparing for the shitshow.

Happy first day of school to the teachers and parents sending their little (or big) ones!
DS1 is at 4K but it’s at his daycare and he did it last year too so I don’t count it as a “first day.” He does get a different 4K teacher for this year so I am excited to see the new things he learns.

I've gotten 2 pictures from E's new daycare showing him happy so I feel much better. I knew he was going to cry when he was dropped off and my mom said it was hard to leave. But it looks like he's doing ok so that's a relief.
Tonight I have open house for N. I can't wait for him to show me his room. He loves school so much (for now LOL).

Ds1 went off to junior kindergarten this morning. His teacher seems incredibly capable to deal with him and there are only 3 other kids in his class. I'm working on trusting and letting go a bit. It's hard given how terrible his last daycare was with him. I do have my phone on ring out of habit though 🤦 She has a "they are four and are learning" attitude that I think will help us all. Fingers crossed!
Also, we are insane and adopted a puppy. She's 8 weeks old and adorable, but doesn't like to sleep at night. 😴 She hasn't been keeping the kids up thankfully, just dh and me.
Ds2 is napping, the puppy is napping, and I am sitting on my butt relaxing. My house is beautifully quiet other than the dryer running. I know ds1 will likely have a total meltdown this afternoon but I'll deal with it then lol. 😂
Anyone start planning 2nd birthday parties yet? I know we are the earliest (10/13). I'm thinking a barnyard theme (ds2 loves cows) or a general fall theme (again lol). Dh wants to do a chili bar.

Hope he has a great day grumpycat! As for birthdays we’re not until December but I’m doing Mickey Mouse “oh two-dles” not sure about meals- we did chili last year and I was huge hit!

Are second birthdays as big as first? We got invited to one from Bs school at a splash pad, and we had fun, but there weren’t many people there.
Since Bs Birthday is the week after thanksgiving I thought about just bringing cupcakes to the big family get together...? Tacky? We would likely just invite family anyway. I wouldn’t expect gifts from anyone.

I don’t want to deal with going in/trust DD without me watch her, so we have to wait until he’s 2 when they start semi private lessons.

I know it is a long year though. So sorry

Well I was super pregnant for DD’s 2nd bday so we didn’t do a party, so we are using that precedent and we aren’t doing a joint party for the kids this year, or a 2nd bday party alone for DS. We will just do odd years as long as we can. We just do cake with family. Sorry kids!

My kids birthdays are only nine days apart and we just moved so we're now two hours from friends and family. They'll probably get a family only joint party because of it. Sorry kids.

I’ll do a theme for E’s birthday. It will be for close family and friends. Not quite as many as his first birthday but not exactly small either. It really depends on the weather too.

We’ve decided this year that we’re having E’s party at the gymnastics gym where our friends go. I won’t actually enroll E there until she’s a bit older, but we’ve to a birthday party there and the toddler play time, and she loves it. Plus, it’s only a two hour party window, and I don’t have to worry about set up and clean up. The theme will probably be Minnie Mouse because she loves Mickey/Minnie, and it’ll be easy to find paper products and stuff.

I have not yet started planning. I have DD1's 3rd birthday to contend with first, but hers is going to have to be delayed since the weekend of her birthday is Thanksigiving up here and we're flying out on the holiday Monday to go to my grandmother's funeral.
For DD2, I have picked a theme (Two-ty fruity) but that's as far as I've managed.

Going out and doing stuff is better when they are younger, IMO, because it isn’t like they will remember much anyway. I think this year we may do a Disneyland trip for bdays!

We may actually do Chuck E Cheese for DD2’s bday. It is super easy and she loves it.

If we have a theme, it will be Sesame Street. For sure. DD2 is obsessed with Elmo and Abby. Every time I turn on the TV, she goes over to her little couch, points, and says “I see Elmo. I see Abby.” 🙄

Even though we live close, I don’t want passes because I want it to be special when we do go

Hey all. Dragging today, N spiked a fever Sunday night and it held on long enough Monday that we couldn't send him to daycare yesterday. He's over it and back at DC today, but it was a rough few nights (I spent two in a row on his floor because it's the only way he would settle, and my body is pissed). He still woke up a bunch last night too; I can see his two eye teeth coming in on the bottom, so I think he's just in pain. I'll give him some ibuprofen before bed tonight and hopefully that will help.
We will definitely be doing Elmo for his 2nd birthday. Kid is obsessed. Whatever we do will is going to be the Saturday before Christmas again, so I doubt many people beyond family will be able to attend.
