What happened?

A weird thing happened this morning with M and I'm curious other people's take on it. She was kind of grumpy this morning, but 1) that's not unusual and 2) she slept half the night on the couch in her room with the light on for 3 year old reasons and perhaps she didn't sleep well.
Before breakfast she complained that she was hurting and was grabbing at her pelvic area. She was wearing snug pants and I thought that they might be bothering her, so I changed her pants. I looked her over for any rash/scrape/bruise and didn't see anything. During breakfast (cheerios, milk and banana - a common breakfast for her), the hurting got worse and seemed to be a sharp kind of pain (like she would be talking to C and then suddenly grab her pelvic area and cry). I cleaned her up and it kept getting worse. At one point she thought that she might barf (she ran to a barf bucket), but didn't. It was so intense that I was wondering if I should take her to urgent care or even the ER. I called DH to come home to take C to DC and M was curled up on the floor crying. In the 10ish minutes that it took DH to arrive home, M seemed to do progressively better. First sitting up, then smiling, then bouncing around as usual. It was slow, not a sudden turn around. By the time DH got home she said that she wasn't hurting anymore and wanted to go to DC. We ultimately decided to take her, since she seemed totally fine at that point. On the way to DC I asked her if she was actually in pain before or just pretending and she said that she was pretending. But she tends to say what she thinks that we want to hear.
So WTF happened? She's starting to experiment with lies, but I don't think that she's capable of a full blown pretend illness yet. Was it gas (I didn't hear or smell and farts)? Growing pains (her teacher's guess)? Noro that magically went away with no barf? Some minor thing blown out of proportion as toddlers are wont to do? Anxiety of some kind turned physical? Has anyone had anything like this happen?
