If it was a suicide attempt, he's a bloody coward. Usually I have a lot of sympathy for those who attempt suicide. They need help. This is just an evil, pathetic man who doesn't want to face up to the consequences of his actions. I honestly think he just wants to avoid being in the prison. If he is in a hospital ormental health facility he can more easily receive better care... (Put on tinfoil hat) And/or escape.

I think if you had made a show about events between 2013 and 2018 people would think it was far fetched fearmongering. And yet. Did you watch this week's episode yet (episode 5)? Hoooooly shit. I don't want to spoil if you haven't but damn, it hit hard. I haven't! Hopefully later today!

I watched yesterday's hearings on NBC and just now listened to last night's Rachel Maddow, and the punditry on NBC made me hopping mad (freakin Chuck Todd, man). I also noticed Twitter being equally frustrated by the "optics" type discussion. I'm curious to hear from others about what coverage they have seen or heard and how they feel the media writ large are handling yesterday's events. I'm happy to move this to the other thread if that's preferable.

We as a country need to be less concerned with the optics and more concerned with the actual words that came out of his mouth.
(My apps arent currently working because Dish apparently is having technical difficulties so I can watch anything at the moment, so it may have changed since last night/early morning.)

jkjacq Yes. I am so annoyed that in the need to fill up the twenty-four hour news cycle, the script has focused not on what he actually said, but how he said it. He confirmed that Russia is a threat we're not focusing on nearly enough and people would rather talk about the bags under his eyes.

And I know I'm not completely innocent in that because I did make some comments about his appearance during the hearings yesterday, but now I want concrete solutions to protect us from Russia (and honestly, 45 and Co) not hearing he was "intellectually disheveled."

enchanted, I think it's one thing to be able to acknowledge that he looks tired and has been through a lot and a very different thing to then morph that into his testimony is no longer credible because of said appearance. God I hate the world today.

Are they waiting for a Hamilton style musical? I'm sure Lin Manuel-Miranda would be willing to pound out something in the next 48 hours.

Connie Schultz nailed my feelings on annoying pundits who focused on Mueller’s performance. Slick does not equate to competent or correct, folks. American punditry has needed to check itself on this point for a long time.

My coworkers kept asking me how I could watch the testimony all day and I got tired of explaining that I didn't want to just hear someone's take on it, either side, but I wanted to be able to hear it and see it myself. I need to see body language and hear intonation. I wanted to come to my own conclusions rather than having some tv personality tell me how to feel about it. Then they proceeded to "tease" me about what Rush was saying about it. It is really fun working with a bunch of republicans. /sarcasm

(today is slow) There are actual people blaming...Hilary Clinton. Saying it was made to look like he hurt himself and he better name names before the Clinton machine can get to him.

Maybe I missed something but I watched Rachel Maddow last night and she focused primarily on the substance of his testimony. Will not watch Chuck Todd because I dislike him intensely.

I don’t understand the comments about Mueller not being able to find who was speaking or needing questions repeated. Didn’t we JUST go through this with Cohen? Who is not a septuagenarian? It’s just the nature of it. Colbert explained it last night which I appreciated. But wtf to the goldfish memories in the media.

The back and forth nature alternating between the majority and minority does make it tricky to know exactly where to look. And the witness table is pretty close to the dais so you really would have to move your head quite a lot to look at the right person, as opposed to someone sitting back in the media or crowd areas simply bc of perspective.

Also, I've said it before and I'll say it again now: Those hearing rooms are tiny. You get *maybe* 20 members of the general public in to most of them. And they aren't all as big as that one
ETA there's a reason I show up 2 hours before *not even highly publicized* hearings, with a toddler in tow
