Apologies for the screen shot, but this is massively depressing, though not surprising.

That electoral map is so fucking depressing.
But it kind of brings up something I've been thinking. 45's antics are keeping dems talking about social issues and not jobs. Or at least, all the headlines seem to be reacting to his antics versus leading. I think there needs to be a concerted effort to take control of the narrative...it's so hard to break through the noise when all his rhetoric is racist and hateful, but the candidates can't just be in response mode for the next year and a half.

Actually, part of me thinks he is stirring the post so intensely to keep the dems from talking jobs.

Actually, part of me thinks he is stirring the post so intensely to keep the dems from talking jobs. It’s for sure part of his strategy. Because it worked in 2016

Re that electoral map...
The fact is that the economy is good, and incumbent presidents always win when the economy is good.
Although who it is good *for* is a separate kettle of fish.

dc2london, I’d say you need to get back here ASAP, but we are honestly living in the devil’s arse here in DC right now. The heat is horrid. So maybe send your FIL here instead.

People want more than that i think

To me it feels like we have a chance right now to make real, long-standing changes (as a backlash to Trump). But I do think candidates need to broaden the conversation, not just react to Trump.

The tariffs aren't helping, the people he promised jobs to in industries that are dying dont have jobs, the debt is over trillion. We cant win a land war in the middle east. We will be buying the software and electronics for the bomb from a distance kind of war from China which isn't going to bring us jobs. We need to counter all the standard republican talking points including abortion is about females having the right to body autonomy.

I don't want to lose the narrative around race and social justice and what the soul of the nation should be versus what it is under Trump. There's a lot of value to that discussion and I think it's critical to not shove aside the voices that have emerged around these issues.
I just think we are spending a lot of time responding instead of driving the narrative, and winning back some of these states that went for trump is going to take some focus on jobs and the economy.
And in reality, the two are intertwined. So let's talk about how social equity is good for everyone. How jobs plans that create prosperity can further social goals. We can talk about all that while still driving home that nobody wins with a racist POTUS.

Right now people who are not political or as involved and don’t like 45 are looking for someone they think can fight him. They don’t necessarily care about foreign policy or trade and for most typical people the economy isn’t in a ‘bad’ place. But I’m in agreement with what you’re saying

But I’m in agreement with what you’re saying there are some good people/voices in the field, wish they would all go into a room and come out teamed up for pres and vp. Then I think we could really see who people are by who they choose as a running mate.

Neil Degrasse Tyson has had a lot of great posts about the moon landing today, thought I’d share this one. I’m actually at a special event to commemorate the lunar landing. Sometimes living in DC has its perks. Any DC glad get to the see the Washington Memorial? Hoping to drive by it later!

And departing thought of the night... what if we had a President (like Kennedy) that proclaimed not landing on the moon in 10 years, but say stopping global warming in 10 years, and we applied the same type of manpower and ingenuity to that problem as we did to space. Just imagine!
