Childs birthday: 8/20 Size clothing they wear: 2T-4T (but really 2/3T) Size diaper: 5/6 Size shoe: 7/8
What time is bedtime: 8-8:30 What time do they wake up: depends on the night. Anywhere from 6-7:30
How is nighttime sleep? LOL. Depends on the night and who put him to bed 😭 he has started to go down by himself again. Last night was one wake up!
How are naps? How many, length? Naps are usually good. One nap (unless he grabs a catnap in the car if he had a shit night sleep) usually ~2h maybe 1.5h. Tends to be 12:30-2:30, give or take half an hour. We wake him up by 2:45 otherwise he won’t go to bed til 9 and DNW that.
What is in your childs bed with them? A pillow and a million stuffed animals. Most importantly a Chase (from paw patrol), a Rubble (also PP), a teddy bear, an Ernie, a sheep... and a handful of others down by his feet.
Going on vacation this summer? Where? We did a mini one last week- 2 nights at great wolf lodge water park. So fun!
Is child still in crib or have you moved to bed? Ugh. We moved to a toddler bed awhile ago and it’s been hit or miss. We’ve been debating going back to the crib but these last few days he’s been really good with it so we may just leave it. He loves the toddler bed aspect of it. He loves to arrange his animals on them and at bedtime when he’s ready for bed he runs and jumps in it on his own. It’s adorable.
Is anyone potty training yet? No. My nanny loves to take him potty and he’s good about peeing in there but he’s nowhere near ready. ESP not poop. He just pooped mid bath two nights ago and freaked. Out. Lol
Favorite books: changes week to week but he loves truck books Favorite toys: all his trucks every single one. And lately his Rubble stuffed animal Favorite things to do: go on walks to find trains and trucks and cars. Play with all his vehicles. Watch YouTube videos.
What are they doing now? Talking, yelling, jumping, climbing, etc? Yes except no jumping yet. He’s so close but he just isn’t there yet. And talking. We’re in speech once a week and he’s gone from babbling to jargoning (per the therapist) with about one real word per sentence. He’s doing much better week to week but he’s still struggling.
Who is having a big 2nd birthday party? Theme? No but maybe we should since my family will be in town. It honestly sounds exhausting.
What is on your list to buy toddler for birthday? Nothing. He has too many toys. We’ve taken some away bc he just doesn’t need so much.
How are tantrums? LOL. They’ve gotten more intense where he will just sit on the floor if we’re in public and will sit or lay down at home and just scream and cry. And will hit. That’s his default if you try to pick him up while he’s angry. Hit and glasses go flying or his rips them off. So not cool.
How do you discipline? Sigh. We sometimes do time outs. Mostly I just try to calm him down and talk to him and explain things. Explaining things is hard but I’m trying to make him understand. So I use small words and holy hell its an experience trying to explain what I’m sorry means LOL. then I threaten with a time out. I have also gotten slightly better with my stern mom voice 😂 he listens about 50% - maybe 30% - of the time vs 0% of the time 👍🏼
For us moms: What is the best book youve read or movie youve seen lately? Oh gosh. I don’t even remember the last movie I watched. I read random books on the kindle bc I have kindle unlimited and they aren’t popular bestsellers, but they’re good suspense mysteries.
If you could have 5 hours to yourself, uninterrupted, what would you do? Sleep. Mani/pedi. Facial. Massage. Lunch and dinner. A bath. Shopping. Only five hours???
What tv shows are you currently watching? Big little lies, Chernobyl, handmaids tale. And Veronica Mars season 1-3 just dropped today on Hulu so I’m going to rewatch them and make dh watch them for the first time.
What is your favorite summer beverage? Lemonade. Then sangria but that’s a rare drink these days. I love fancy gin and tonics. Like each restaurant’s twist on a g&t, mmmmm so good. I had a “mermaid” g&t the other day and I’m still dreaming about it, it was so good and it was like a teal color so it was so fun to drink haha
Any questions for the group? Hah I was going to ask about how you deal with the tantrums. Going to read everyone’s responses first.
Oh! FOOD! What do you guys feed your kiddos? We started making him all his food separately and still do, but it’s mostly the same thing- chicken soup with veggies and then pasta or rice. Then pasta with veggies and meat sauce. Chicken fingers. Sautéed zucchini. But he seems more interested in eating with us but I also want him to eat regular food. Like PB sandwiches. Etc. we’ve started but I’m so stuck in our routine of same foods I feel like idk what to make him. Also he doesn’t eat as well for us as he does for our nanny (of course 🙄) so I get so nervous trying new food. My anxiety flares up and it’s so dumb.

Childs birthday: Aug 27 Size clothing they wear: 18-24 month or 2t Size diaper: 4 Size shoe: 5
What time is bedtime: 7-7:30 What time do they wake up: 6
How is nighttime sleep? Pretty good other than the ear infections How are naps? How many, length? 1, usually 2-2.5 hours What is in your childs bed with them? A toddler pillow, blanket to snuggle, 4 stuffed animals (they're multiplying), her nuks, and a blanket to cover her up with
Going on vacation this summer? Where? We went camping for 5 days once already. Probably another camping trip and maybe a waterpark

Is anyone potty training yet? No. She does tell us when she pooped and pulls at her diaper after she pees. I'm traumatized from PT DS for like a year that I'm not ready.
Favorite books: Wheels on the bus, Nora's ark, pout pout fish Favorite toys: Paw patrol dogs/vehicles, doll house furniture/people Favorite things to do: snuggle, play with DS, be OUTSIDE
What are they doing now? Talking, yelling, jumping, climbing, etc? Her vocab keeps getting better, she tries to jump and it's so cute but she can't yet, she climbs everything she can
Who is having a big 2nd birthday party? Nope. We just did all the summer bday with MHs family. What is on your list to buy toddler for birthday? She got a new paw patrol toy and a doll high chair. We got the kids a new-to-us playhouse for outside earlier this summer as their gift from us. They love it
How are tantrums? She throws some pretty big ones. I leave her alone and stay close by. How do you discipline? If she hits us when we're holding her, she goes on the floor for a few seconds and I say something like "no hitting". And repeat. Usually she gets the idea after one or two times being put down.
For us moms: What is the best book youve read or movie youve seen lately?lol no idea If you could have 5 hours to yourself, uninterrupted, what would you do? 5 hours? Sleep. Mani/pedi, shopping, drink my coffee hot while watching tv What tv shows are you currently watching? Reign currently What is your favorite summer beverage? Lemonade
Any questions for the group? Nope

addymac. Depending on what we eat i make J food separate because hes so picky and i hate it. Seriously i do. I try 3 to 4 new foods a week and usually he wont eat it. So for breakfast he eats fruit and sausage every day. Sometimes he will eat dry cheerios, a yogurt pouch, a peanut butter granola bite, or peanut butter bites. Lunch and dinner i make sure he has a fruit, a protein, and a grain. He mostly eats chicken nuggets, fries, tofu, pizza, pepperoni, pasta with butter and parmesan cheese, all the fruit, shredded cheese, tortillas, tortillas with salsa, corn chips, rice with corn and peas, and crackers. Thats really it. Oh and mighty veggie pouches is how he gets his veggies. Snacks he eats pretzels, yogurt melts, dried fruit, beef jerky ( seriously), and craisins. That is basically all he eats. As for tantrums we struggle. Mostly we tell him no 3 different times. The third time we remove him from the room. If its really bad we put him in his crib for a 1 minute time out but he doesnt really get that or we take away what he shouldnt have

I have a Q. How long is your LOs attention span? Do they play long with a new toy or something they’re not very good at?
Our speech therapist is recommending developmental therapy for N bc she thinks his attention span is too short and it’s making speech therapy harder bc at times he won’t focus on the current game / toy to focus on words. I am like....... he’s not even 2???

addymac I don’t think R has a great attention span, but I don’t know how long she’d pay attention. R tends to be around older kids, so they’ll play with her. I’m thinking she wouldn’t really play with a 2 year old, it’d be parallel play. And, food is all over. I try to feed her whatever T wants - which is simple food. She doesn’t really eat meat at this point.

Or she might play with it for a minute and not come back for days. As for your ST recommendation, is he in birth-3 or something else? I ask because if it's B-3, the ST spends all day with kids around his age. If she thinks there might be something else a DT can help out with, it's her job to point it out.

Another Q. Does your kid play a lot with others or do they still do more independent su and parallel play? My kids play together sometimes. And she'll play with older kids. Like, she thinks duck duck goose, tag, hide and seek are the best. She'll sometimes follow DS's directions and sometimes she just stares at him or does her own thing. But kids her own age, it's parallel play.

Yeah he’s in the EI Birth-3 we’re definitely getting the evaluation done at the end of the month, I am just surprised bc I didn’t think he was that distracted. He can play with his cars for like an hour but if it something he’s not that into or he’s bad at, he moves on quickly. Just curios how “normal” that is. But I’m all in on the therapies for him if it helps. It does make me spiral and worry about future diagnoses (add /adhd / the spectrum, etc). But I try to ignore those anxious thoughts. The therapist says there’s no way he’s autistic bc he’s too social and chatty but I still worry about related dx

Another Q. Does your kid play a lot with others or do they still do more independent su and parallel play? J does parallel play which is totally approproate at this age. Occasionally he will run with other kids or roll a ball to them but thats it. 95% parallel play.

addymac J has a pretty short attention span. If he plays with his cars he can play for 20 minutes at a time. With new toys its 5 and minutes or so. But often ge is just running from task to task. Im seeing ny friend who works in infant and toddlers today. Ill ask her what average attention span of a 2 year old should be since she does evaluations all the time. I was thinking, for food i make almost all of J stuff in the air fryer. Its easy, low mess, and i can throw it all in there at once. Plus then i have the stove and oven for us. Best in estment ive made for food.

@starzia R likes an app Starfall and does the colors on there. I ended up doing multiple free trials for T by emailing them asking for a month free and I finally bought a year subscription since T wanted to play all the games. She knows some colors and is pretty good at using the app. We also use an app Smart Shapes to work on colors.

Colors - he knows yellow. Sort of knows green and blue and red. He says yellow and red and sometimes blue.
I’m really struggling with figuring out if he’s talking in English or Spanish 😔 like Spanish words don’t occur to me bc I think in English but then our nanny will repeat a word he says in Spanish and I’m like ohhhhhhh ok.

I'm late to the conversation!! I miss the questions too. Childs birthday: 08/16 Size clothing they wear: 2T Size diaper: 6 Size shoe: 7 What time is bedtime: 8:30 What time do they wake up: 7:30 How is nighttime sleep? Good. We put him down asleep after his sippy cup but then he usually sttn How are naps? How many, length? One around 2-2.5 hours on the weekend. Shorter naps at daycare, I think bc he doesn't want to miss anything. What is in your childs bed with them? His beloved puppy binky and one other binky, and he is still in a Halo sleep sack. Going on vacation this summer? Where? Nothing planned. Is child still in crib or have you moved to bed? Crib at least till upcoming baby is 6 months old Is anyone potty training yet? No way. It's a big hassle and he's still so young. Favorite books: Karen Katz lift the flap books, Thomas books, "that's not my (fill in the blank) books, wheels on the bus Favorite toys: the laptop with nick jr playing. Sigh. Any ball to throw. Favorite things to do: go outside, stick paw patrol stickers on paper, play in water, watch laptop What are they doing now? Talking, yelling, jumping, climbing, etc? Loves climbing and jumping and finds a table or stepstool to push against things so he can climb up. Will throw himself off a high surface into your arms, which I forgot to tell my parents when they were visiting. Still has only about ten to fifteen words but is making more sounds Who is having a big 2nd birthday party? Theme? I might do bubble guppies bc he loooves them and dances to the theme song. Just doing a small family gathering but getting a water bounce house or something similar since he loves playing in water. What is on your list to buy toddler for birthday? Thomas track master? Books? How are tantrums? Annoying but not as annoying as the four year olds. He thinks it's very dramatic to throw his binky. How do you discipline? Tell him no; ignore him if he's fussing about not getting screen time; time out for one minute in his crib if he keeps not listening. It doesn't seem to be working but we'll see. For us moms: What is the best book youve read or movie youve seen lately? I watched Ralph wrecks the internet with the four year old, which was funny If you could have 5 hours to yourself, uninterrupted, what would you do? Sleep. I hate to admit it, but I think I'd be drawn to finishing the laundry bc it annoys me I can't catch up on it. What tv shows are you currently watching? Really liked dead to me What is your favorite summer beverage? Lemonade What is everyone's rule on screen time. I would prefer if he didn't get any at all, but it's hard especially with his brother watching. He loves bubble guppies and wiggles, but I hate that he watches more than an hour a day since they watch some at daycare too. I can't remember who asked, but he doesn't know any colors. He can point to all the paw patrol pups though if you say their names (facepalm). king26 I thought J's diet sounded really good from what you described. Toddler H has gotten much pickier recently. We feed the boys whatever we are eating. I usually do protein, starch, veggie for dinner, but I try to make one of those be something I know they will eat. It's very frustrating though.

thinkchocolate05 I asked about colors , DD can name all the characters in seasame street. So these kids clearly have let their priorities be known Our speech therapist said colors are a preschool skill definitely not a 2 year old skill. She basically said to let him pick up on whatever he wants to and not push anything. 🤷 Most of the things Oliver knows is because he follows Molly around like a shadow.

The twins are like this. It's funny bc my mom and MIL took care of DS1 early on, but they made efforts to speak to him in English so he understands Spanish but most of his words are in English. The twins take directions better in Spanish, but have some words in each (more in Spanish). It definitely catches us off guard at times.
