We have had a pretty nice day so far. I slept until 10. All I want to do is sleep here. I think the anxiety of home has melted away and just left me exhausted. First we went to a cool playground. Then we went to the bike trail. I forgot a piece for our new bike rack so I couldn’t get my bike on when we were packing so I used dhs mountain bike. I will have vaginal bruising for days! C did great though and we probably did somewhere between 5-6miles. He was beat at the end. The ride was mostly on the water and gorgeous. After we went to Friendly’s and now we are relaxing a bit before heading down to the beach. It’s a goal to get C in bed at regular time tonight. We’ve been doing evening activities so he’s been up a good two hours late each night. It’s showing and he needs the rest. We also decided on the kittens name. It’s Marty. Still working on the mom. Here’s some pics from our ride

Welcome home cagoldi! Does your mom getting engaged possibly change anything for you? tgrimes I'm sorry you're dealing with your mom being such a bitch while your dad has surgery. I hope he recovers quickly. Nothing changes immediately, but she has only agreed to watch Poppy through the end of the year. I’m not sure if she’s going to want to retire now that my SD will be moving back to CA. If that’s the case, I will need to figure something out for Poppy and X until they are in school full-time.

My sisters and I are starting to compile a basket for my sister and BIL. Does anyone have ideas? tallb, anything your mom found helpful after her head injury? Right now he's still not very alert. Thinks it's 1999. Was able to name Arlo (his Godson) but no other niece's/nephews. Remembers they have cats, but can't name them. Judging by latest CT they're hopeful no long term brain damage. Is in surgery for his wrist now (on his dominant hand). So basically my only ideas are mostly food related. -snacks -grubhub/visa gc -some frozen meals -a cooling eye mask since he has a bunch of facial fractures? Is that dumb? -wine for my sister Any ideas for things that would be helpful/appreciated? Obviously things are still up in the air as far as his recovery right now.

I think a cooling mask is a great idea. Are there any activities he could do like sudoku books, crosswords or magazines or books he’d enjoy?

wineallthetime that’s sweet. Do they have kids? If so something small to occupy them in the hospital room, water wow, stickers etc. - Magazines - Notebook the write stuff down - Thermal cup to keep drinks warm, you’re constantly interrupted in the hospital

Wtf to those messages. tgrimes Why does she think you wouldn’t and shouldn’t have concern for your own dad? She’s talking like you’re not even family. So bizarre.

I received a separate text from her saying: and that is called “bull shit.” I thought about replying back to let her know that bullshit is one word and not two, but decided against it.

wineallthetime Notebook and or paper file to keep handouts or print outs. Nicer blanket to keep at hospital. Pictures from home or a little album. If he's alert enough, mind games or puzzles are good brain activities, but may be early for that - once therapy starts they may have good ideas, games, etc. Hows his body? Can he walk ok? Is he eating? Hopefully the last 20 years come back, that has to be alarming. My mom had speech issues but no memory loss..she doesn't remember the first two weeks after her fall though. It's still super early, so try to remind them of that. Are they at your hospital? I imagine they'd have good resources for therapy. Happy to provide more info if needed. Sorry they are dealing with this💔

He tried to sit up and insisted on walking today while totally out of it so they had him lay back down. He's mostly just been asleep. It's crazy cause he thinks it's 1999, but he remembers things. Like he knows he and my sister got married 2 years ago, he just thinks they got married in 1997, not 2017. He remembers A is his Godson (who was born in 2018). So it's hopeful that he remembers events over the last few years at least?

So it's hopeful that he remembers events over the last few years at least? I forgot my mom had to be restrained for several days bc she was trying to get out. Depending on the hospital, she may want to see if he can be transferred to one with an NCCU, with specialized nurses and therapists. We did that 24 hours after the fall and it was nice to always have a neurologist there rather than once a day for rounds. I'd try to encourage rest, minimal screens. My mom had an NG tube but then ate 4 days out, but then had that surgery when her bleed hemorraged, so started over and had to get a feeding tube after a week (but then did start eating after that. The one consistent thing about TBIs is that every one is different, and the doctors cannot promise much bc they do not actually know. He has to be pretty young, so I am hoping he progresses quickly!

Thanks for the birthday wishes for my little man. We had a fun evening. I picked up cupcakes and let them play on the water slide. They had chicken fingers and watermelon on the back porch. About to break out the cupcakes so we can sing happy birthday.

Welp, things escalated quickly over text. Y’all are shocked, I’m sure. Now my sister and I have a bet going on how long it will be before she speaks to me again. Good times.

tgrimes is she like this with your sister too? It’s worse with my sister because she always talks back to her. My mother didn’t attend her wedding. She flew to OK, stayed at my grandparents house but didn’t go to the church or anything. Then she didn’t speak to her for almost a year. Want to know why? Because my sister didn’t want a sit down dinner at her reception. She just wanted cake and punch at the church. At my wedding, they were at odds again and I was always the middleman. She has to take every situation and make it about her. It’s super fun.
