I start a new job July 1st and will be working nights 7p-7a. I will work 7 days on then 7 days off. I currently pump at work twice a day plus first thing in the morning before I leave. Baby is 5 months old and consistently sleeps 11p-7a with no wake ups. I'm not sure what to do about pumping on night shift. I dont want to confuse my body too much as I tend towards oversupply. I'm also not sure what to do when I'm sleeping during the day in regards pumping. Baby will be at daycare during the day on weeks I work. I'm worried about ruining my supply. I respond fine to the pump but dont want to spend more time attached to it than I have to! Any advice or experience on how to work a pumping schedule on night shift? I'd appreciate any input!

the 7 days on, 7 days off aspect of it is tough. unfortunately, i don't think there is a way to not confuse your body when you're switching to an opposite schedule every week. obviously you can't not pump even though LO sleeps through the night because then you'd have nothing to send to daycare the next day
I would shoot for pumping 3x during your overnight shift and see how it goes. i think it's easier to have a bit of an oversupply, and then back off on pumping a little if necessary, than it is to have an undersupply and have to work really hard to correct it. also if you have a little bit of an oversupply you can freeze extra so there's not as much pressure on you to pump a certain amount in a given shift. i'd also nurse your LO as soon as you get home before you go to sleep. then i guess i'd wait and see if you're engorged when sleeping during the day and perhaps you'd need to get up once during your sleep time to pump. maybe there will be someone at your new job who has BF/pumped before that can give you some tips?
