Anyone else feel like we’re playing chicken with Iran and we’re not going to win?
Depends on how you define win. We have military superiority, so we're totally capable of bombing the crap out of them and utterly destroying their infrastructure. Of course, that would then create a new generation of America-hating Middle Easterns with nothing more to lose and offer up new anti-America arguments on a silver platter to jihadists worldwide about how America is out to destroy Islam, but who's looking that far down the road, right? Bomb their power plants, roads, schools, hospitals, military facilities, and throw up a "mission accomplished" banner. Trump's base will 110% call that a win.

I'm attempting to stay calm about Iran and 45's tweet from this morning isn't helping. Listening to the daily yesterday about how Iran plans to moving forward their nuclear program since Trump pulled us and could have a nuclear weapon ready within a year really scared me. Surprise level: 0
Gosh, it's almost like international monitoring agreements have a purpose and provide a stable environment in which a country relies on the word of the rest of the international community that it doesn't need nukes. And as soon as that stable environment is pulled away, it immediately ramps up arms production to protect itself. But hey, what do I know?

What is happening in Pennsylvania?
Cocaine, 70 some officers put on desk/admin duty for racist SM posts, and now a nightclub shooting?
Are you jealous of Florida?
(I say this knowing Idaho only makes the news when things like cops shooting a woman while aiming for a tiger, or you know stupid white supremacist crap)
And one of the refineries exploded this morning. I drove on that bridge and by that refinery everyday for years until recently. Craaaaazy. 6abc.com/explosions-at-philadelphia-refinery-caught-on-video/5356529/

Ben Rhodes made the excellent point that we made an absolute mess out of Iraq and Libya and Iran is bigger, more powerful, and has more military infrastructure than those countries. A war in Iran under the command of John Bolton would be an epic quagmire.

Also Congress hasn't been fully briefed on everything going on in the ME. AND we have no confirmed Defense Secretary AND last week in a subcommittee hearing the WH guy on Iran couldn't answer Deutch on what were the constitutional requirements for war with Iran.
This is going swimmingly.

I don't think the idea is to put boots on the ground in Iran. I think the strategy would be bombs, bombs, and more bombs. It would create a huge power vacuum in the region and send Saudi Arabia out of control because it has always had to keep an eye on Iran as a counterweight in the region. Also good luck to Shiites all over the region - they have been able to count on Iran having their back against Sunnis for the last 50 years. If Iran disappears, we could see a major uptick in Shiite persecution.
**By disappears I mean is so caught up in its own domestic turmoil triggered by US bombs that it cannot take action anywhere else.

because at least he understands the real impact and collateral damage this will cause. 45 doesnt give a shit about 150 brown people and neither do Miller or Bolton.

I agree with Nadler here. A lot of people were screaming over him allowing that charade to play out with Hicks, but I think it puts Dems on better legal footing to give the administration every opportunity to cooperate and then demonstrate to a judge that they didn't.

This feels overlap-y with Politics, so I'm linking my podcast thread for In The Dark. howeverithappened.proboards.com/thread/15157/true-crime-podcast-dark?page=5&scrollTo=2012234The Supreme Court ruled Friday that a Mississippi prisoner tried six times for murder deserves a seventh chance because of a prosecutor's discrimination. Associate Justice Brett Kavanaugh wrote the 7-2 opinion and was joined by the court's four liberals as well as Chief Justice John Roberts and Associate Justice Samuel Alito. Associate Justices Clarence Thomas and Neil Gorsuch dissented. The decision in favor of death-row inmate Curtis Flowers reflected a consensus among both liberal and conservative justices that potential jurors cannot be struck based on their race.

Felix Sater failed to show for his HPSCI interview today, citing health reasons. His lawyer says he'll appear voluntarily but HPSCI is going to go ahead and subpoena him anyway.

geezus Watching the map of the middle east countries and how they could engage if we were to declare war is pretty scary.
also local gas prices jumped to over 3/gallon overnight. And we dont get our oil from any where close to the middle east here.
