Since more people seem to be introducing solids to their babies diets I thought I would start a thread.
What have they tried: What do they like: Dislike: How much are you offering:
And ftm question what brands are you using or are you making your own?

What have they tried: eggs, peas, carrots, peanut butter, nut butter, pears What do they like: he loves peas Dislike: not a fan if eggs How much are you offering: if it is from a jar about half a jar per feeding and we do solids twice a day. If it is not from a jar I just eyeball it.
We have been using Earth's Best for jars and making the rest, we will probably do some blw when he is older.

Eek we haven't started yet! I refuse to believe he's old enough to eat anything other than milk/formula. Although N will hit 6 months (adjusted) this weekend so I suppose I'm not too far behind, right?

We're planning to start in 3 weeks when we get back from vacation and M has hit 6 months. I'm planning to make a bunch for the freezer so we can work through that instead of buying it or cooking often. My list to make is: Peas Carrots Butternut squash Sweet potatoes Broccoli Spinach Apples Peaches Strawberries Blueberries I'm excited to see how she reacts! She's been so interested in our meals lately and I definitely think she's ready.

We're holding off for a few more weeks...when she's a little bit better at sitting up with assistance. I will not be making my own. I said i was going to with DD1. But then I realized the magical convenience of pre-made.
We will do a mix of BLW and purees. I've given her little nibbles of watermelon and strawberry. She made a happy face, but pushed it right back out.
As for brands, we did Gerber organic purees with DD1. With A, we'll be doing beechnut, because it's "cold puree" process allows it to retain more nutrients than purees that are cooked at high temps. (I am a sucker for good marketing, but I believe it)

Caboose over here. Dd turns 5 months tomorrow. I'm going to wait till closer to 6 months. I'll make my own again but we switched to blw pretty quick with ds. For weekend traveling I'll buy jars/pouches. judyblume14, I believe it! They say the same thing about cold pressed olive oil. I'm also a sucker for pouches with fancy things in them. Ooooo my toddler is eating amaranth or quinoa or purple carrots 😂

What have they tried: Rice cereal Butternut squash Sweet potato I also let him gum my nectarine the other day. We'll do a combo of blw and purees. Purees mostly just for daycare's sake.
What do they like: Everything
Dislike: Nothing. He's an enthusiastic eater.
How much are you offering: I send 2oz of bm to daycare for them to mix with rice cereal and then I send 2-3oz of puree. Sometimes we do a dinner serving. This is all in addition to the regular amount of milk B drinks. We'd stop offering so much this early on if he were replacing milk with food.
And ftm question what brands are you using or are you making your own? I make my own and freeze them in 1oz ice cube blocks. It's super easy, much less expensive and works for me. I do my purees mostly by steaming then using a stick blender. When the ice cubes are frozen I put them all in a zip lock baggie with the date on it. So far in my freezer I have butternut squash, sweet potato, apple, and nectarine. I'm planning on doing peas and carrots soon.

I liked Happy Baby and Happy Toddler stuff when I started with ds. Now that he's older I normally buy what's on sale. I still use pouches for adventures and traveling...and to sneak in some veggies if he's being particularly toddlery.

R has tried a few things, prunes, peaches, sweet potato. She seems to like them all but it's really upsetting her tummy. She gets cramps and gas then huge blow outs from very little food. Is that a sign she's not quite ready? She's already six months tomorrow.

I thought if baby was constipated you gave them a P food to get things moving: prunes, peaches, pears, etc. Have you been giving her a few days in between each new one to get use to it?

T has been eating since he turned 4 months old at the recommendation of the GI doctor. I started with oatmeal and all the usual purees. Gerber brand. I started him on thinned down peanut butter last week at the advice of the allergist. I will be starting eggs and cashew butter soon (also thinned down). I feel like that sounds weird.
What are you all making of the reports of lead in baby food? They haven't released brand names or how it got in there, or how much, so I'm not sure what to make of it.

Bunny from what I am reading this study was based on paperwork of baby food from 1993 to 2013. It also looks like when they are saying baby food they are also including juice and cookies in the sample. They have also noted that it may be in the "normal" range of what the FDA allows. Personally I feel that since they are not calling out specific brands they did not find it consistently within a brand. I also think that since this is based off of prior years that if they were to do further research they would have different findings. But maybe I am too optimistic.

I was unaware that this was a "thing." But, I lve under a rock. Anyway, I did notice on the Beechnut website FAQ that the first question was about lead: www.beechnut.com/frequently-asked-questions/Gerber addresses it on their site too: www.gerber.com/why-gerber/gerber-lead-in-juice-and-lead-in-baby-food

We are doing BLW.
What have they tried: Broccoli, avocado, steamed carrots and celery, steak, and scrambled eggs. Also, some popsicle.
What do they like: All the veggies and meat. And the popsicle lol
Dislike: The scrambled eggs. I think he just touched them before they cooled down enough and he wasn't interested after that.
How much are you offering: Just little bits to chew on after he gets a bottle.

Also some people like to smear some on their cheek first to see if they get an allergic reaction. My corner neighbor did that with her dd and she had a reaction. She's allergic and has to carry an epi-pen. I have to rethink some of our go to snacks if this friendship works out.

Bunny, how are you giving the peanut butter? Just on a spoon? Or with cereal? This whole giving pb early thing is throwing me off. so we gave it early under the advice of my 3 year olds allergist. He skin tested the baby first t make sure he isn't allergic then said to give it at 5 months to prevent him from developing allergies. Peanut butter on a spoon is a choking risk so you have to thin it down a lot with formula or BM. I mix it with really thinned out cereal.
