I am curious about other people's thoughts on this article and what it says. Is the environmental impact of traveling something you think about when making plans? I love to travel and I think it's probably one of my biggest sources of pleasure in life. I'd hate to give it up. But this is really concerning. www.nytimes.com/2019/06/03/travel/traveling-climate-change.html

Damn. I knew flying put a lot out there, but I didn't realize how much.

That's heartbreaking. I love travel, as do so many. Obviously we know that the mode of transportation is bad for the environment, but to see exactly how bad it costs the Earth is frankly horrifying.
My mom, oldest daughter, and my niece are going to Ireland/ Wales/ England in less than two weeks. Maybe I missed it in the article, but is there a link to this methane offset purchasing?

I wonder if a potential "solution" (in quotes because the only true solution would be no travel ever which is not realistic for a whole host of reasons) would be to build in the cost of offsets into plane/ cruise/ bus/ train tickets and gas prices.
But I can see a whole bunch of problems with that, too.

I know there is a UN agreement I think that will force airlines that fly internationally to offset carbon, which means it will likely be passed off to consumers. That said there are so many things we need to offset for. Just the way we live our lives. It's overwhelming.
Full admit I'm in a tough place with this climate crisis because knee deep in the uninhabitable earth: life after warming. And I just read this:https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/597kpd/new-report-suggests-high-likelihood-of-human-civilization-coming-to-an-end-in-2050
So yeah I think every single person and government should be doing everything possible, but I know that won't happen, so I'm questioning my own sanity and thinking of having a massive water tank buried in my yard and becoming a prepper. Half-joking.
