mwhip where is the field trip to? Cadence can't wait until summer. The school takes a field trip each week! It's a farmstead that has animals the kids can pet and feed, birds, etc. Evie has already been many times with her grandmas but I've never been. My mom said the 2 hours will not be enough.

Also, I'm terrified of flying. Hate it so much. My mom said she'd make sure I'm sitting with her or one of my sister and promised time for drinks before boarding;

They have pool trips scheduled every other week, but they have to be 8 and up for it to make sure they are proficient swimmers, so Cadence won't be going to those. I've promised to take her to the pool myself.

I received an email from the immunologist. Bottom line - Hayden's ear tubes are likely colonized and will need to come out/be replaced. I've seen this many a time and oral/ear drop antibiotics will not clear this situation without removing the tubes. In this situation, the tubes lead to reaccumulation of bacteria until removed. I am reaching out to Dr. Albright to see about his thoughts.
THen I got another email after he spoke to H's ENT.
I expressed my concern and he understands the need to remove the tubes. My hope is that this will take care of everything. If it appears that Hayden has pus in the middle ear when Dr. Albright removes the tubes, I will recommend one more course of antibiotics to clear the ears. Following that, given his largely normal immune evaluation, I expect Hayden to do well.

WTF y'all.
I guess now I have to discuss with the ENT if this is necessary. This is his 2nd set of tubes because he had so many EI's with the first set it pushed them out.

I swear if I spend $3000 on another set of tubes and he still gets EIs I will kill someone.

Omg that’s enormously frustrating tgrimes ! Did they talk about next steps or a timeline at all? And yikes to the $$$$! I need to make an appt with the ENT. My deductible is $2500 and then I have to pay 20% after that. And next month it will be about $4000 for my surgery. FML.

tgrimes, He seems so sure of his sudden answer that you should ask him if he'll refund the cost of the surgery if it doesn't work.

Just thinking out loud, I’m not exactly sure if I understand what the colonization element is, but would they be able to test the tubes to see which particular bacteria it is so they can treat for that. eta: tgrimes

The last culture showed streptococcus was the main bacteria. Which is a very common bacteria and why I'm assuming he's saying the tubes are colonized. I don't know though. I've sent an email to my pedi again and left a message for the ENT's nurse. He's in surgery on Tuesdays.

tgrimes, I hope they get back to you quickly. And I REALLY hope the Dr is correct and this fixes H's problems. As to the cost, if you have a 2500 deductible, then 20% after that, what's your Max Out of Pocket? Should you hit or be close to that? Why do you need to pay the $4000 after that? I'd think you would probably hit your MOOP by then, no?

Individual deductible is $2500 with a $5500 out of pocket max.
