J had his one year appointment today. He’s 20 lbs 12 oz and 30.5 inches long. Had 2 shots. I also think I’ve finally found a sippy cup that he’ll use. Now I just need to go back to the store to get a few more. Please share any and all straw/sippy cup Recs. I wish I could figure out the perfect transition cup - allowed by all babies, no where for mild to grow, dishwasher safe, not 2928362618 parts. I would be a zillionaire and loved by moms far and wide

What drives me crazy is when they are supposed to be spill proof and they leak.

I’m throwing Baby Mermaid’s first, first birthday party on Saturday 😂 My house is only big enough for one side of the family at a time. The girl’s always get two birthdays. It’s going to busy AF here until mid May. Tell the people what they want to really know- which side of the family is the “B list” side?😉😂 For me it’s MH family because they all have kids who run around and tear everything apart 😂 They’re good kids but when you have a herd. My family is easier. I’m the only one with kids. The girls prefer MH because of the herd.

DS2 didn’t have even the slightest reaction/mood swing from this lot of shots. He’s so much more chill than his brother lol.
I like the cheapo take and toss sippy cups for at home, tommee tippee straw bottle things for on the go. This baby just wants his brother’s stuff so he’ll prob have a normal drink bottle next time I buy some.

Not baby related: I have two friends getting married this year. Both were in my wedding almost 10yrs ago. We’re still kind of close but “FaceTime session every few months” vs “constant texts” close. I was invited to their bachelorettes, showers, and weddings. All are at least a plane ride away, one event would require major international travel. With two kids in DC and three other family weddings this year, I am maxed out in terms of earmarked PTO and extra funds. I am not attending any of the events. Can I just send bottles of champagne (or Venmo some one attending the Bach) and smaller wedding presents? I would say yes

I think that would be a nice way of acknowledging the events and sending your love even if you can’t be there. I’m sure your friends be bummed, but I would hope they would understand!

Rules change when you have to travel for weddings IMO, especially with littles. If they are your friends they should understand.

I’ve missed quite a few birthdays.- happy birthday to all of the littles I missed! I’ve been checking the birthday thread but otherwise tapa refuses to give me updates on this board.
It’s been a crazy few weeks. Since L’s birthday, he suddenly seems so much less baby like. He walks everywhere now and is full on communicating with us. He’s very demanding, and has little melt downs when he doesn’t get his way. We probably shouldn’t think it’s funny but I can’t help but laugh.
We are getting ready to go out of town at the end of the month so we have 98373373773 things to do before then. And we are getting over our billionth cold of the year. I’m so sick of being sick.

woodenshoes sorry for your loss 😚 Yes Leaf 🌱 I would for sure think that's fine. Did I ever update on DS's spots? PA at the Peds didn't think it was anything serious, maybe some sort of eczema. Lots of lotion which I knew I should be better about. DS is sitting up from laying regularly now! And as of yesterday will crawl over something. I think because he scoots instead of crawls he would just be "stuck" if something was in front of him. I'm sitting on the floor and he just crawled over my legs for the first time and thinks it's hilarious. He's a snot monster atm and also working on his second molar. sweetc129 my nephew just got his first tooth at 15 months. So funny how he and DS are opposite ends of the spectrum for that. DS got his first two at 4 months. Seems like somewhere in the middle would be nicer.

Leaf 🌱, yes to champagne and/or small gift. And YES PLEASE create the perfect cup. OMG. E was easy and picked up the first cup I gave her. Poor N is just not getting it. She tries to lift the bottom of (like she does a bottle) and gets SO PISSED OFF when nothing comes out. And I tried that munchkin one that supposedly allows it but it leaks freaking everywhere. So every few minutes she yells for a cup, tries to drink out of it upside down, gets pissed off and throws it across the room. Repeat all freaking day.

I liked the silicone top being very similar to a bottle...made the transition easier for a bottle fed baby since it was familiar.

Ahhh nothing like the smell of puke in the evening. L didn’t eat much dinner, but did drink a mix of BM and WCM... then threw up about a half hour later. He had the same BM/WCM mixture last night (and probably drank more of it last night) with no issues. Maybe it’s a stomach bug? He is really drooly and was after dinner too, but I guess that happens when you are about to vomit right?
I do have to give H credit for not throwing up himself or running to hide in another room. This was his first real big kid puke and he handled it much better than I expected.
Happy Hump Day!
ETA: he nursed before bed and then threw that up too as I was putting him in the bath. Poor guy. I am also not amused.

But my neighbor just brought over some fresh baked bread (still warm!) so at least this night hasn’t been a total disaster.

Ugh clementine. That sucks. N did something similar a few weeks ago, she threw up 3 times after dinner and I had no clue why. She was fine the next day and no one else was sick. It's a mystery. I hope L sleeps well and wakes up his usual self tomorrow!

clementine i hope the puking stopped...really there’s not much that’s worse than puke Leaf 🌱 way late but i think the champagne is super thoughtful and i would think your friend would totally appreciate and understand we also enjoy the nuk cups, miracle 360 (although it took awhile for her to catch on - she would basically just hand it back to me if i gave one to her), and the munchkin weighted straw cups. i have yet to find anything that is 100% leak proof. we have another snow day today. i’m planning on survival mode - movies and banana bread baking. i also pulled out a bunch of old toys and it’s like christmas morning. i’m hoping the novelty of it lasts awhile

clementine, I hope L is feeling better. Also, how has he been doing since he got his tubes awhile back? I am just curious because we just got done with my L's ENT appointment. He is getting tubes on April 24. He is on ear infection number 5. He failed the hearing screening for his left year likely because of the fluid in his ears. I feel bad for him and really hope tubes brings the relief he needs. polson, boo to a snow day in April. Where I am at we had about an inch of snow on the ground this morning. That is enough, it is supposed to be spring. Regarding cups, we have been using the munchkin weighted straw cups and the 360 cups. The 360 cups we have are pretty leak proof until L throws them on the floor. I need a cup that doesn't leak after a high impact crash from the high chair. I am coaching DS1's soccer team. Our first game is April 20 and we've only practiced once. There is a chance of storms later today, so who knows if we will have practice tonight. If we do it is going to be cold and windy...I am not looking forward to that.

L seems to be doing better today. He was up for about 2 hours MOTN, only calmed down when I nursed, then threw that up. H stayed home with him today and said he hasn’t gotten sick anymore, but isn’t eating or drinking a whole lot. I’m crossing my fingers H or I don’t get it.

He is getting tubes on April 24. He is on ear infection number 5. He failed the hearing screening for his left year likely because of the fluid in his ears. I feel bad for him and really hope tubes brings the relief he needs. Ears seem to be fine now! He was back to himself the day after surgery. Using the ear drops for 5 days sucked bc he hated them. Things were fine for about a week after that and then he started waking up more through the night for a few nights and I thought I noticed some drainage. A doctor friend checked his ears and said there was definitely drainage in one. So we did another 5 days of drops, per ENT instructions. No issues since then, which was about 2 weeks ago. He was grabbing at his ears quite a bit before the tubes, and even though he didn’t always have an active infection, I’m sure the pressure of the fluid was uncomfortable. That hasn’t seemed to be an issue since he got the tubes. We have a follow up with audiology in 2 weeks to check his hearing again. Pre-tubes, his ear drums showed little to no movement because of all the fluid. I hope tubes go well for your L! It really is such a quick and easy procedure with minimal recovery time (for us at least). At the very least, it has to be better than repeated infections both for L and for you.

mintyblueair stranger fear is the worst! We’ve been so lucky to skip that with ds so far. Dd2 was the worst. It made doing stuff so hard. We got 1year shots (2) yesterday and he was crabby today. Hoping tonight goes better. He’s 29 1/2” and 20.11lbs so big by my baby standards, but still a peanut. We had a snow day today and it was rough. Dd1 needs routine and she took advantage of every time ds needed my attention. Summer is going to be hard if she keeps that up.

dizzycooks, my son made strange with everyone between 5 months and 9 months, but by 1 he had outgrown it. DD is actually getting worse over time. When did you find your DD2 outgrew it?

Sorry about all the ear infections. Hope the tubes give y'all happy babies. clementine i hope the puking stopped...really there’s not much that’s worse than puke Leaf 🌱 way late but i think the champagne is super thoughtful and i would think your friend would totally appreciate and understand we also enjoy the nuk cups, miracle 360 (although it took awhile for her to catch on - she would basically just hand it back to me if i gave one to her), and the munchkin weighted straw cups. i have yet to find anything that is 100% leak proof. we have another snow day today. i’m planning on survival mode - movies and banana bread baking. i also pulled out a bunch of old toys and it’s like christmas morning. i’m hoping the novelty of it lasts awhile Snow day???? 😳 I just rotated toys yesterday and it's so cool to see him so into his toys again. We use the munchkin weighted straw cups. DS seems to love them and they don't leak all the time lol. Maybe if I closed the lid they wouldn't bit DS can't really flip it down himself and I want him to have access to it always. He refused to suck on anything hard spout. It's hilarious. We also got something similar to this: Tougs Silicone Straw Cup Lids for Toddlers Babies (Pack of 5) - 5 Drinking Straws Included - Reusable, Spill-proof, Durable - Stretches to Cover Tumblers, Yeti Rambler, Mason Jars, Cups and Mugs www.amazon.com/dp/B071J42C17/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_a9CSCbAT5QEG7 I wouldn't let him crawl around with it but ours have really fast straws so they're great for having him drink smoothie or porridge in his high chair. And keeping one in the diaper bag for when we get somewhere and don't have his cup or don't want to put juice etc in his munchkin cup. We had puke here yesterday morning too. Seems to be a very short lived sickness. He seemed very hungry at supper and didn't puke what he ate so hopefully we're done with that.
