Im going to start a registry early, as my baby shower with family will be earlier (In June) due to having to travel. Has anyone used amazon for registering? Does it make a difference if it’s prime? Any recommendations for how much to register for or what? I’m so lost!

I’ve never done an amazon registry but I’ve seen a few friends do it. It worked out fine for me as a shopper? As for what to register for, it might be a good idea to go to a brick and mortar store and check out the items in person if you can (Do you have a Buy Buy Baby or something like that? Target also has a decent selection of items. RIP Babies R Us which is where I went back in 2015.) I also read a lot of reviews and “Top” lists when making choices. The biggies—furniture, stroller, car seat... Things that will help complete your nursery—crib bedding, decor, storage pieces... Things that may not apply in the newborn stage but you’ll eventually need—high chair, exersaucer, sit me up seat, walker, pack and play... Things for baby—(I am not a huge fan of registering for clothes bc I think people buy what they want in that aspect anyway?) but toys and books, bathtub, towels and washcloths, bath toys, swaddle blankets, activity mat, bassinet, rock in play, diapers, wipes... Things for you to help care for baby—if you plan on breastfeeding, some of those accessories (remember you can usually get a pump free with insurance), bottles, bottle sanitizer, bottle warmer, carriers and wraps, boppy pillow, white noise machine... I’m probably forgetting things but this should give you a good start Two random items I totally forgot to register for and had to run out and buy after the fact were a cover for my car seat in winter time and a cover for grocery shopping carts/restaurant high chairs.

I have random tips- Set your EDD for one month prior to actual. You’ll get the completion coupon around the 32w mark instead of doing it at 36w.
Don’t bet on people buying from the registry. 90%+ of what I got was clothes that I ended up donating (and yes, they knew we didn’t need clothes)
If you do a car seat cover as was suggested, it has to be on that only goes over the car seats. The ones that go in and under baby void your car seat safety and warranty unless it specifically works with your seat (all seats come with an infant insert)
Look at things at a brick and mortar store first. Best idea is to do one B&M registry and one online.
If you plan on more kids, register for the big things before finding out the sex. It won’t sway you from getting neutral things as much

We registered at Buy Buy Baby and Amazon. I liked it because Amazon has a lot of different brands than what is usually available in stores. You have to keep on it though because some items go out of stock and might not come back. If you're like me, you'll be updating it until the shower anyway haha. Items will most likely be shipped directly to your house so be ready for that right after you send invitations. I wrote up a list of items and read it out at the shower to thank everyone. For burp clothes, I was told these were the best and they worked out great. The organic versions are softer but more expensive of course. www.amazon.com/Gerber-Birdseye-3-Ply-Prefold-Diapers/dp/B007VBYVWERandom tip I got from my friend is to register for multiple kinds of bottles (even if you're planning to breastfeed). You can always return what you don't use. Try not to get set on one specific brand because you never know if your baby will take to it. She said she spent hours and hours researching and decided on a brand but her son would not take it at all. Luckily her sister had given her a set of a different brand and he loved it. +1 to buying neutral items if you plan on having more kids. I tried to keep everything neutral from car seats to bibs to feeding utensils. I'll try to think of more!

Thank you everyone, this is a lot of great information! Seems a lot more doable now, and there’s lots of stuff I didn’t even think of listed here!

Amazon has a guide and if you add everything on the list, you get a free welcome box. You can remove things after you order the box or just check it off. But the guide is decent.

I think Amazon registry let’s you add links from other websites too. I know I added cloth diapers from outside venders to my registry.
It’s not a bad idea to have a store registry if there are olds attending your shower. My friends mostly used my amazon list and my older family members purchased in store.

We did Amazon and it was great. You can add things not on Amazon but that can be more of a pain for people to purchase. Also did BuyBuyBaby for those who preferred to shop in-store.
As far as what to register for, I'm assuming you need all the things since it's your first? My tip is to register for EVERYTHING you want. You never know what people will buy. Sometimes a group goes in on big things. Some people like to buy basics like diapers. Put it all on there.
Here's what we registered for and received:
Car seat -- my coworkers chipped in and got it for us Stroller -- my parents bought it Crib -- ILs bought it Swing Baby carriers / gift cards to baby carrier companies Cloth diapers & accessories (wet bags, etc) Bottles, etc Pacifiers Nursing supplies (nipple cream, nursing pads, etc) Boppy and extra cover Swaddles Toys Books Stroller muff for winter Mirror to see car seat Hooded towels Sink bath pillow (the flower one - H picked it out) Sound machine Diaper bag Baby nail kit Nose Frida Some clothing items we liked to give them an idea of our style

And yes, get the free welcome box from Amazon. The gift bag from BBB is worth going into the store to get as well.
