ow old is your LO? 8 months this week
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? Nursing when together, pumping at work. I loathe pumping and am counting down to his birthday, but just had a week long vacation where I hardly pumped at all and it was lovely.
4-8 mo If you’ve introduced solids, how is LO doing? Can't get enough, basically. He ate close to an entire (adult size) pancake when we went out to breakfast the other day - still doing purees to make sure fruits and veggies get in there, but he loves everything! If you haven’t, how do you feel about introducing?
If you’ve returned to work, how is that transition going? Balance is still a challenge, I'm just pushing through to the end of this first year (no more pumping) and then to 18 months where I'm hoping he'll be a better communicator.
Questions/AW?
GTKY: what’s your favorite flower? Sweet peas.

How old is your LO? 9 months tomorrow
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? nursing on demand at home, pumping 3x a day at work. i would like to cut back to pumping 2x a day... he loves solids, so i think he would be ok. want to see how his weight gain is going at his 9 month checkup later this week.
9-12mo What’s your favorite tip for dealing with a hungry yet distractible baby? nursing in a quiet, dark room (preferably lying down in bed!). or just waiting and trying again in a little while.
GTKY: what’s your favorite flower? i love morning glories and moonflowers.

How old is your LO? 5 weeks/ 35+0 preemie
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? Nursing and pumping Ehhhhhhhh...its causing me great anxiety. I was pretty much EP while he was in the NICU and I have been seeing a IBCLC weekly since birth to get us started nursing. His sister (now 3.5) was also a 35 week preemie and it took her until her due date to get the hange of nursing, so I expected the same from him.
I have just transitioned from mostly pumping to almost completely nursing with no shield. My LC said I should still pump though to help establish my milk supply because as a preemie he isn't transferring a ton while nursing.
For a few days I went from getting 5-10oz when pumping to 1-2oz. And I know he wasn't nursing so much to make up that difference.
So I hit the pump harder, making myself do it more, even though he is nursing and am making sure to est oatmeal and drink water. I felt like I took myself from an over supply when pumping to an under supply because I got lazy with the pump for like 2 days.
0-3 mo Nursing in public: questions, experiences, anecdotes? Nah, that's mostly ok. Sometimes this guy will not latch though and it makes me frustrated because I know he "should" be hungry.
Fav flower...babies breath (lol, how timely)

Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? Nursing on demand, pumping 2x at work, supplementing with formula when needed.
9-12mo What’s your favorite tip for dealing with a hungry yet distractible baby? Ummm, still working on this lol. Generally I'll just put it away and try again in like 5 minutes.

Yogurt congrats on your new LO & transitioning away from EP! I assume you’ve changed pump parts (valves or membranes depending on the pump) to see if that’s the culprit of lower pump output? Also you are right to point out that 5-10oz in a session is quite an oversupply. 1-2oz per session is much more in the normal range. Of course the big drop is startling. Change pump parts if you haven’t; check flange fit if you breasts are changing shape as your hormones start to level out some? Remember watching diaper counts is a great way to see if baby is transferring enough. Maybe this article from Dr Gordon can give you some other indicators to look for to help with your anxiety as you move away from pumping & knowing exactly how much LO is taking in: drjaygordon.com/newborns/scales.html

Nursing. It’s going well I think. We started with a shield in the hospital because they said she didn’t like to open her mouth wide enough (small mouth?), and I have large nipples I guess. When I try to nurse her without the shield, I can only get my nipple into her mouth. So we’re still using the shield.
Peds NP said that once she grows a bit hopefully we can get rid of the shield.
0-3 mo Nursing in public: questions, experiences, anecdotes?
We’re not taking her out in public yet, so this hasn’t come up yet. I did have company over and nursed her under a blanket. It’s definitely more challenging, and she didn’t like it.
Questions/AW? I’m not using my electric pump at all yet, but I have a haakaa pump (manual suction pump) that I was using. I was getting 1/2oz from my right breast prior to most feedings, but that has dropped off now. I’m not really getting anything out now. I’m worried about low supply, but DD still has several wet and dirty diapers daily, so I think I’ve just regulated to what she needs. Does that sound right?
It takes her 45 minutes to nurse on both sides (2 positions on each side). In the last couple of days, she has not been nursing as long, maybe 35 min, and she’s not “making it” to the last position change in the second breast. This is also making me worry about low supply. A friend thought she was just getting more efficient at nursing. She’s been nursing more frequently, about every 2.5 hours. She seems satisfied at the end of each nursing session. Does that sound like low supply or is she really just more efficient?

So I changed the flange, but I never changed the membrane. I will try that. In the past week I have had some sessions where I am getting 4-5oz, sometimes as little as 1oz, but most often 2.5 oz. I think this must be my boobs regulating. I was super stressed out because I was worried I had messed up my supply, but I went to the lactation consultant today and he had gained 11.5oz in the past week amd had plenty of dirty diapers. I think he's just been drinking a lot on some feeds and I just dont have it to pump these massive amounts anymore. Thank you for the article, I'm going to check it out

Sounds like a growth spurt there are SO many in the first year. If I recall correctly, there is one around two weeks. Your supply may be starting to regulate too. As long as she is having the wet/dirty diapers, appropriate weight gain, I wouldn't worry too much about low supply. My (very chunky) little guy would nurse what felt like every hour during a growth spurt.

DD had a pedi appt yesterday, and she gained 4oz since her appt last week, which is slightly under their goal. NP said they like babies to gain 20-30 grams per day, and she gained 15 grams per day. NP said just to keep going the way we are for now. Will recheck her weight in 2 weeks and see where we are then. She’s still nursing about every 2 hours at night, but about every 3 hours during the day. I hope she is growing! I would very much prefer not to have to give her formula.

My LO was only gaining 12 g a day at one point. The NP at the hospital was freaking out and trying to tell me he should be gaining more, but I also had a nurse coming to visit us every week and weighing him and she said that as long as he's still gaining that that's the important thing.

Hi Ladies, I thought I would jump in with you.
How old is your LO? -- 3 months
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? -- Nursing and pumping while at work. Nursing is going OK. He nurses off a shield because he basically destroyed my nipples in the first week. I saw a couple different IBCLC's who told me they thought his latch was fine (although one thought maybe he had a posterior tongue tie, she didn't seem sure though), so I never could figure out why he was destroying my nipples. Never had this issue with my first two. Anyway, he is still using the shield to nurse as I've been too nervous to really try transitioning him off of it. That pain was the worst I've felt in my life. Other than that, things are good except he still takes forever to eat.
0-3 mo Nursing in public: questions, experiences, anecdotes? -- I find nursing in public to be difficult, not just because I have to get the shield positioned without showing everyone my boob, but also because I just feel like I can never find a comfortable position. I really rely on having a nursing pillow.
Questions/AW? -- I'm looking to get a few cute nursing tops for summer, anyone have any recommendations besides Motherhood Maternity?
GTKY: what’s your favorite flower? -- Peonies

Ugh. My pump was making a really weird noise like the suction wasn't right, and I wasn't getting much milk from one side, and I was starting with the beginnings of mastitis. Just thought to check and one of the flanges has a tiny knick in it. Not sure how I didn't notice it before. So I guess I'm going to the store later to get a new one, and in the meantime my coworkers will have to forgive me for taking forever to pump.

LoisLoan have you tried crossing your legs to help support your arms when nursing in public? Or using your diaper bag as a nursing pillow? Old Navy makes nursing tops. I’ve gotten nursing tops from amazon, too. I love my dresses (and hoodies) from Latched Mama.

How old is your LO? 5.5 months
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? Nursing exclusively at home, pumping 2x a day at work.
4-8 mo If you’ve introduced solids, how is LO doing? we just started baby led weaning two nights ago and he likes it so far. first night was a cooked carrot, which he didn't get much off of, and last night we did a banana. We did the same for my DD and she didn't actually consume much until she was around 8 months and started getting teeth.
If you’ve returned to work, how is that transition going? Work is going fine, although I screwed up and overpumped last week and was engorged on my stud side for most of the weekend. My duckbill valves were worn out on my spectra and I replaced them and my output went back up to what it was when I first started pumping. I'd thought my oversupply was regulating, but it was just my pump not functioning at 100%. So this week I'm back to limiting what I pump to keep things in check.
GTKY: what’s your favorite flower? Daffodils! They were in my wedding bouquet and I always love to see them pop up in March and April
