L had speech and every 3rd Monday of the month an actual SLP comes with our special instructor. (It is her daughter!!) She gave me paper work on Childhood Apraxia of Speech but reiterated that even though she can't officially diagnose him yet as he doesn't have enough words, that is what we're treating him for. I'm glad because calling it motor speech planning wasn't helpful.
Otherwise, L slept ok until 5am where I think his medicine has worn off completely off and he can't breathe thru his nose or his temp goes up slightly and he was just a grump. Which messes with my workout this morning. I'm just a grump this AM.

Just another Monday here. Supposed to be sunny and in the low 70s. MH is off today (and the next 2 days) and I only have a 3 day work week.

Just dropped DH off at the chopper and doing some food prep. It's a pretty day but the wind is really cold so I'm not sure if we'll get out for a walk or anything today. I did manage to get a Work out in early this morning so that's something. DH also gave me part of my birthday gift early (birthday isn't until next month). Wireless headphones which is perfect because I've been borrowing his ear buds and they keep falling out.

J slept like absolute shit last night. At one point, he was up 4 times in 30 minutes. Nothing was wrong with him, he just wanted me to sleep near him or on his floor but since I’m trying to break that habit I ignored him. But then it got to be too much and I succumbed. So I’m tired today.
B is at school and J and I are home. I’m really hoping B naps today. I think last week he napped maybe 2 times but I really want to just relax sans kids so I’m hoping today is a day he’s tired enough to sleep.

I'm WFH again today (my boss is sick so I figured it would be a good day to do this). Trying to get a few things done around the house between tasks.
The kids were TERRIBLE this weekend. IDK what the deal is except that we're deep into age 2 now.

I'm working from home today. Nothing exciting going on. My cousin wants me to go to a HIIT class that her fiancee is running after work so I might do that. I want to start working out again but I can barely go up the stairs carrying C without losing my breath. Guess we'll see how it goes.

Also WFH today. Seems to be the theme lol.
I had a dental cleaning at 8am and then headed straight back. MH is working remotely also. So last night was fun. Kids went to bed at 8:30. Then AV got up at 1:30 and she couldn’t fall back asleep until around 3:30. Just then, AB woke up gagging and vomited all over. And continued to do so every hour until around 9:00 this morning. AV woke right up to this and then was all concerned and couldn’t go back to bed until about 6am (to 7am).
AB just ate some applesauce and a banana just now and of course he’s ready for a nap so H is doing that while I’m about to jump on a call.
I think my mom has the flu so our whole week is just basically gonna be brutal. But I’ll be grateful so long as none of the rest of us catch what AB has.

I almost called in today. It’s a slow work day and I felt like I needed just 1 more weekend day... problem is I need to save all my days for mat leave. Yesterday I ended up cleaning out half of the storage room aka nursery. You can actually walk in there. My goal is to have it cleaned up by the AS so we can paint. Problem is most of the stuff in there is baby stuff (crib, glider, bookcase, infant car seats, baby clothes). I might have to move stuff out, paint, then move stuff back in.
ETA - apparently I already told y’all yesterday that I started cleaning that room out... baby brain in full effect!

So I'm really frustrated with my insurance.
I switched from the PPO plan to the HD with HSA plan this past open enrollment. I did this because we didn't touch any of the deductibles the last 2 years. I looked at the plans, and for speech therapy for both plan is said the same thing: $750 Deductible, then 20% Coinsurance, applies to the $3,500 Out of Pocket Maximum for the PPO plan and $1,500 Individual/$3,000 Family Deductible, then 20% Coinsurance, applies to $3,500 Individual/$7,000 Family Out of Pocket Maximum for the HD plan. So while this verbiage didn't change from the previous year, I never paid for his speech past the $30 copay. Now we are being charged for the full session (less $5). I did not think it would change when I switched plans because the info said the same thing for both plans, so I still thought I would just be paying the $30 copay. Now we're paying $120 a session and MH wants to pull DS1 from speech.
Also, do I have to hit the family deductible before the 20% coinsurance, or just the individual?

So, my co-worker and I usually walk together for our morning break and our lunch break. She IMd me just before lunch saying she wouldn't be able to make it. I figured she had a meeting or something, truly no big deal. But then I'm on my walk and I see her sitting on a curb talking to some dude next to his Comcast van! Rude. The 13 year old in me is very offended.
I'm actually not mad at all and she isn't required to tell me why she couldn't/didn't want to walk. I just thought it was fun that my first reaction when I saw her was "gasp! She ditched me for a BOY?!"

I’m sorry jubilantsquirrel! I’m as lost as you are. That is my biggest fear when DH renews. But you can’t give up speech! I guess you could but doesn’t he realize that wouldn’t be the best?

We still get speech through the district, but it's just one 30 minute session a week. And we can afford it, he just doesn't want to. I mean, we don't pay anything for school since he goes through the district now and we no longer have any car payments. Outside of our mortgage, we don't have any debt, so it's not like we don't have the money for it. He acts like we're always on the verge of going bankrupt or something. But then has no problem rushing out and spending 2k on a TV when ours breaks, even though we have 2 others in the house. Sorry, didn't mean for that to turn into a vent.

I don't think copay and coinsurance are the same thing. Does your insurance card list things like office visit, specialist, etc with the copay amount? Maybe that was what you were paying before?
Did your company give you any money for going with the HSA? It's usually cheaper for them so some places will give you a chunk of money to put into your account. I'm just hoping they did to help you out with the costs. That really sucks though. I hate insurance.

So we just paid a $30 copay for each session (we got a monthly bill from speech). Now we aren't being charged a copay but we are paying the entire thing out of pocket. But I don't understand because the wording on each plan for speech therapy says the same thing, that you pay until you reach your deductible and then you just pay the coinsurance until you reach the OOP maximum. But we never paid anything more than a copay until the other plan. And yes, they gave $300 in January and will give another $300 in July.

jubilantsquirrel I’m on the more expensive plan purely bc it has copays and the HD does not. We end up at the ped way too much! I don’t think you should quit speech though if he still needs it.

jubilantsquirrel So the HD plan that qualified you for an HSA account would have had to have been a “HSA plan”, meaning that all services except preventive care subject to the ACA schedule are paid out of pocket by the member (at the insurance company’s adjusted/contracted rate) until you hit the deductible. Once the deductible is met, you pay your share of coinsurance (or copays)). The amounts you pay in meeting your deductible plus the amounts you pay in coinsurance or copays all accumulate toward your out of pocket maximum for the year. Only once you reach your out of pocket maximum will other things get paid at 100% (not even copays due). Of course, I’m sure your plan limits you on # of therapy visits (usually 20, 30, or 40 per year) so if you’ve maxed those out they won’t be covered at all. You can continue to get the service, but it will be at the retail rate and no longer goes toward your deductible or OOP Max. So even if you take one of the boys for a sick visit, or some lab work, etc - just know that you are going to be billed for all of it. Providers are not supposed to ask for any amount upfront, but they sometimes do. Regarding whether the family deductible must be met, plans can be set up either way so you’ll need to check with your specific plan document or HR person.

Even knowing exactly how the plans work, knowing the industry, conducting a full annual cost analysis based on our usage vs cost of premiums, etc. I always always choose the “richer” (better) plan bc I’m so risk averse and always need the comfort. However our company currently only offers two health plans and they both have $4000 upfront deductibles; one is an HRA and one is an HSA. I am on the HRA bc at least prescriptions do not go toward the deductible. Of course this is about $100 a month more in pre-tax cost to us. Ask me how many prescriptions we are on. Zero.
Also, you can contribute to an FSA with an HRA plan, whereas if you have a HSA plan, the FSA bc “limited purpose” and can only be used for dental/vision expenses. Yes you can contribute o an HSA, but the FSA $$ you elect is all available upfront on Day 1 of the plan, HSA dollars are only available as they come out of your paycheck. So if you have a major expense early in the plan year, you’d have to foot the bill and pay yourself back at the end of the year.
With an FSA, I could theoretically put $5,000 in there. On January 1st, get some major surgery and pay for all of it with my FSA money. And find out on January 2nd that I can’t go back to work and have to resign. My employer just basically gave me $5000 bc they still have to fund the FSA company for the money I spent...
I really do like my job. Lol. Maybe too much.

Thank you kleigh! See now I've made a terrible mistake. Luckily we get 60 sessions a year and since he only goes once a week we don't have to worry about running out of sessions. But the amount I save in premiums plus the HSA money we get doesn't cover the cost of the sessions we have to pay out of pocket for. My confusion came because both plans said you pay out of pocket until the deductible is met, but that wasn't the case with the PPO plan, I just paid the copay. Even the speech billing gal was confused because Premera told her that we would be charged for the sessions until we met the deductible but then they covered all of the sessions under the PPO plan. I did email our benefits people today but haven't heard back yet about the deductible.
