Need to read through and catch up. MIL bought H a tablet. The TV is on all day when he's there and now he'll have access to a tablet too. When I said something about him being to young and the screen time she asked how is it different from the phone. I said it's not really. I don't think she understood that as he shouldn't be on either. Do I send some articles about screen time.or just tell her I don't want him having access to this much technology at this age? I don't trust that she will limit it. If you don't want H to watch tv or use a tablet then you tell her. YOU are the mom and YOU make the rules. End of story. I don't care if she's doing you a favor by watching him. I sometimes have to be clear with my mom. She lives with us so thinks she has a say in my boys upbringing, and I tell her straight out she is not their mom. MH and I make the decisions about them. It's a tough lesson but if you don't set the boundaries now it will cause even more issues later with your MIL. We didn't do any screen time for N before 2 and it was difficult but not impossible. E is a little different though because he's often around when N is having his screen time. But we absolutely do not allow him to sit in front of a tv, phone, or kindle.

laurensc927, when kids are this little they learn best by interacting with their world, not zoning out in front of media. There are a million studies on it. Your intuition is right here. I’m sorry your MIL is doing this, but I would for sure put my foot down over a tablet for a 16 month old.

Morning! Ear tubes procedure went great. We're home now and hoping he'll go down for a nap, he's still a little out of it and was walking like a drunk man 😂 now he's just a grump!

N took about a 3 hour nap after his procedure and then was back to his normal crazy self. Hopefully you get the same!

I did a big donation at lunch before the rain, and ran into Marshall’s for a bday gift for this weekend. Got DD a swim suit.

Hi, all! I have been terrible about checking in this week. Work has been insane, except for today, which is the day I expected it to be overwhelming. We have a strike going on today for my union, so several of my coworkers aren't here. But it has been manageable. laurensc927,a 16 month old definitely doesn't need a tablet. I think the bigger issue (bigger than screen time) is MIL undermining your rules. As the parent, you should be able to set the guidelines and she needs to follow through. I would put my foot down on that. She is the main caregiver. I may give some leeway if it were an occasional thing, but I think a tablet at that age is very unnecessary and I would say no. I will say that I know we are breezier about screen time than most for DD1. She does have limits set on her tablet, but she also watches TV most nights and we sometimes play video games together. But she has never been one to really zone out and become a zombie in front of the TV, and she knows that if she ever puts up a fight about giving up her tablet, it gets taken away. She also taught herself to fully read at 4.5, so I guess I am just not concerned with the amount she watches at this point, as it doesn't seem to be impacting her learning at school. She is still very active most of the day. DD2 watches Sesame Street occasionally and will pay attention for a bit, but otherwise if the TV is on, she is playing with her toys. I admit I have the TV on most evenings while I am cooking dinner. I watch my shows before H gets home. If DD2 starts paying attention when she is young, then maybe I will reevaluate. My parents did the same. My mom had the TV on a lot. It never impacted my learning or other activities. I did homework lots of times while watching a show. I know that this doesn't negate all the research that has been done at all, I am just relaying my experience and why I take it with a grain of salt. One funny thing is that DD1 has started watching "doctor shows" with me. She loves New Amsterdam and The Resident (which I have been binge watching)- haha.

Well, E had his first trip to the ER last night. He was running and ended up falling into a door frame. His forehead swelled instantly and I was worried about a concussion. So off we went. He was acting normal when we got there but the Dr wanted us to get up every 2 hours last night to check on him. Since he's up a lot normally it wasn't a problem. This morning he has a big bruise but the swelling is gone and he's acting his normal silly self.

I posted a picture on the private board of what the bump looked like. It's something...... They think he broke a blood vessel and that's why it swelled like it did.

Good morning ladies! Today is our last day in Florida. Unfortunately, ds1 spiked a 103.1 fever last night. Wondering if it’s just from getting too much sun yesterday or if it could be the flu . Fortunately, he’s super resilient and seems fine now with ibuprofen/Tylenol. We’re going to the beach and doing a boat ride to see dolphins but we have our own car to take him back home early if needed. C has been a rockstar this whole trip. He just goes with the flow and has been napping on the go.

I was literally standing behind him and thought he hit the wall.

OUCH sarahandben108 ! Poor guy! It looks so scary but glad he is doing OK this morning N had his first visit to the next room yesterday! He did great, even slept on the cot! And during outside time, promptly fell from the slide and scraped his forehead *facepalm* (he's fine). He's also got a head cold again - so much snot everywhere when he wakes up, so much unwillingness to let me clean it up. He definitely woke up this morning in a mood too, and bawled at drop off. Mostly because I wouldn't let him play with the booties outside the infant room and then dared to leave him to play with his friends.

DS has been stuffing his face lately. I keep telling him to chew! This morning DD put a half of a strawberry in his oatmeal and since he wasn’t interested in the ones on his tray, I didn’t think anything about it. Well he spooned it in his mouth and tried swallowing. I looked over and he seemed to be struggling with it caught in his throat. Scooped him out to pat his back and it caused him to throw up the strawberry and most of his breakfast. Scared me a lot.
DH has been giving him whole grapes like DD and I keep telling him he is too young. I’m going to use this to stress to him he HAS to cut up the grapes.

Choking is also one of my fears, ldubhawksfan / sarahandben108 , especially the way N likes to shovel food in his mouth. I haven't even tried grapes or grape tomatoes with him yet because of it. I'm even hesitant on blueberries, but I'm going to give them a shot since they're smaller (and will obviously still be cut up). Not that he'll eat them anyway - eats all the fruits and veggies at DC, but at home it's only protein, applesauce, and yogurt.

If they are big ones, I may cut them in half. For DD2 I cut grapes and grape tomatoes into quarters. We actually have a special grape cutter that does it, but it squishes them, so I only use it on really firm grapes.

Also terrified of choking. I cut everything for ds2 super small, and then he grabs fist fulls and shoves it all in his mouth anyways lol. I just let ds1 start eating sliced hot dogs

Hi there. Guess I have a confession too. DS1 is 7, and I still cut a slit down his hotdogs. Everyone else's (5, 3 & 1) get cut in half. Their grapes are still cut in half, the long way. H does it too because he hates when I go after him and cut it...well, that was a few kids ago. And popcorn, IF A gets any, it is only the fluffy part. I've had a kernel piece stuck to the back of my throat before, no thanks. We only have it on rare occasions anyway, but I'm watching them all like a hawk.

The past 2 weeks have been crazy around here. We had a lot of snow, then the day it started melting, we got rain. Turned into a BIG mess. We had water come into the basement through our crawlspace and into the fireplace clean out and right into the basement. So now we have a bit of landscaping to fix before we get more rain. But we were very, very lucky. Everywhere around us is flooded. It is horrible. Devastating. Some of our main roads are gone or have been destroyed along with the earth under them. It will be a very long time before they are back together. It is so surreal.
