This is the hardest part for us. We also don’t have any religious affiliation, so the “where are they?” is challenging. So what do you tell them about your parents? MH and I struggle with this about his mom. He hasn't really asked where she is, and I guess he sort of understands that she died as we've talked about her and showed her pictures, and he tells everyone he got his blue eyes from her, but I know all that is coming and I'm not sure what to tell him. Thankfully, the “its so sad that they’re not here anymore, but we can remember them in our minds” is sufficient for Josie bc then she jumps right into more questions about them and their lives. If she pushed, I think we might go the heaven route.

jewels I know it’s different because Christianity and Christmas are dominant here, but personally I think it is important to preserve some family traditions and frame them like “we have these rituals and they’re important because it helps us have shared memories of special times.” Or change that to reflect a more cultural perspective than religious if that’s what you’re going for, especially when you’re part of a group that has historically been persecuted for those things. JMO as the whitest white girl raised by Evangelicals, I’m sure there must be Jewish parents navigating the same feelings who would have more specific ideas.

DH and I are not at all religious but like others, we defaulted to heaven for lack of a better explanation for the kids. They have lost 4 great-grandparents and a grandma in the past 5ish years. T does think “heavens” is the restaurant my grandma’s repast was at last year though.
My oldest told me he told his therapist once that “he doesn’t know how so many people believe in a fake book of made up stories.” I have no idea what/if any religion she practices so I hope she wasn’t offended.
My younger sister, the only religious one left in our family went to a medium group thing a few weeks ago. She swears she connected with both our grandfathers, our grandma, and possibly my MIL. The stuff she said seemed so real but I’m not sure. Will share more later if anyone is interested.

cagoldi, there might be more parents in the same boat. None I really know of though. My brother ended up putting his kids in a Jewish private school, and through it became more religious, and his kids are even more religious than he is now. I have 1 set of friends that I actually met through S who are fairly religious Jews. The other Jews I know are married to Christians and either raising their kids with no religion, or a bit of both. I feel like I want the kids to be Bar Mitzvah'd, which means they will have to have some religious schooling. I've started searching for a less stringent congregation to join, but haven't found one yet. The Rabbi who married MH and I was fabulous.. super lax, believed in a lot of things that go against the religion (like he performed same sex marriages) but his congregation is almost an hour away so just doesn't feel like a good solution for us.

I’m so glad we just told the owner of our rental house this week that we were moving. Like literally told him Monday and he called Mh today to ask if we can show it tomorrow and Friday because he has a lot of people inquiring. Why yes, please do it this week while MH is home to keep the house clean and do all of this without me having to deal with it. I really hope we get a renter in two days so I don’t have show it after MH is gone.

I haven’t really walked in front of my car in daylight since the last snow storm. I just did while coming out of Dunks. Looks like C helped clean the cars off! There’s a bunch more scratches all around the windshield area. I texted Dh to see if C helped. He quickly responded no and after a minute cane back and said yes he helped a little and had the combo brush scraper thing. Sigh. I have another scratch I was going to fix this summer so I’ll add it to the list.

Oh my gosh wedding! Evie did something similar, she scratched the side of my jeep with her camp chair. I never had it fixed, but it just scratched the top layer of paint.

J slipped getting out of the tub and got a solid gash under his chin on the side of the tub. We first went to the ER and it was a scene, so we went to a pediatric urgent care and just got 5 stitches. Should I be flattered that he requested I take him? Waiting for paperwork and then milkshake time. Woof.

The talent show was just as I figured--painful for 64 minutes and then entertaining for the 1 minute I watched my kid. She was nervous but did well.

I had to hold his head in my hands while he freaked out. I'm shocked the doctor got them in and in what seems like a straight line. It was a pretty gnarly cut. We tried going to McDonald's but it didn't have a drive through and the 10pm on a Wednesday crowd wasn't great. J actually suggested we leave and he have a lollipop instead. I'm so tired now, I guess I was on overdrive there for a bit.

So tired. I have to tidy the guest room before I can lie down. I made a mess in there pulling stuff out of the closet and getting things ready for Mh to drop off and donate. He has to show the house tomorrow afternoon so it has to be done.

Wow you ladies had some deep conversations today.
Religion: LO goes to a religious school but C and I are not religious. LO has picked up the religious side of school very quickly.
I do believe in a higher power and a heaven like place. The thought that my grandparents are up in heaven looking down on us has helped me deal with their loss.

We are having our first thunderstorm of the year. There is still a ton of snow on the ground and flooding because it is melting and raining. I got a little water in my basement, where it has come in in the past. After it warms up and dries up I think we are going to dig up that area and put some of the liquid rubber stuff on the outside of the foundation. Such a pain.

Oh, also I’m pretty sure I have something, like a nail, in one of my tires. So now I need to go get that checked out tomorrow. It’s slowly leaking air. Cool.

tallb I’m glad you were able to find a pediatric urgent care. Lol to settling for a lollipop. Mh was like I feel better about a hospital...and then I texted that we could barely get a seat, face masks everywhere, and super sick looking kids ahead of us. He called the other place our doc recommended and was like no line, leave now. Def will be back to this place though if needed.
