I liked the ending. It was a great way to show where she's been for the last 25 years and why Fury didn't call her to help with Loki

I think I'm feeling better regarding Phase 4 after seeing Captain Marvel. Granted, even I will be more than annoyed if the heroes of Phase 3 don't get due attention in Endgame, but I'm not so afraid and Carol will willy nilly run all over Ironman, Captain America, etc.
Who knows, may she and Bucky Barnes can have a great talk about not being able to trust their own minds after being torn from their friends during war, as well as then being turned into weapons by entities that tell them they're doing the right thing. When Carol seemed to recognize Maria Rambeau, well, there I was sniffling about the way I teared up at the end of Winter Soldier.

I'm ready for the phase 1 guys to retire and the phase 2 and 3 ones to take over for sure.

I agree it's time, but I'm counting on a truly fitting farewell to the Phase 1 heroes. I think they deserve it, and since the Russo brothers have done my favorite Marvel movies, I'm hoping they can craft a really good transition to the new phase, while honoring the old.
I'm totally curious about the Marvel limited series that should be coming. I'm a huge Sebastian Stan fan and really want to see his character's arc fully explored. Also buying stock in Kleenex if things pan out the way I think they might in Endgame.

I’m also dying that someone noticed how he sliced toast in a previous movie. I...do not have the mental energy for cataloging these details and making obscure connections since having kids 😂

HIIII! Ok so I'm a huge Captain Marvel comics geek and I loved the movie! Monica becomes a superhero in the comics - Photon (her mom's call sign in the movie) or Spectrum (she goes by both names at points, and her first appearance is actually as Captain Marvel), so she may show up sooner rather than later since she would be in her 30's by End Game.
I thought Bree really did justice to Carol, and I really liked the twist on her origin story (since in the comics there are a few versions). And I hate that I have to be excited about this, but it's about damn time to have a female superhero lead in a movie with no love story. I loved the buddy cop banter with Fury and Carol, and Goose (Chewie in the comics), and her relationship with Maria, and Mar Vell being a woman, and the soundtrack and lots of other things. I do think Coulson was pretty wasted in the movie and I almost wish they had either given him more to do or not included him.
I need to find time to ditch my husband with the kids and go see this movie again!

Dramaphile, yay, I’m excited that Monica becomes her own superhero! I hope we see her, either in Endgame or in Phase 4!

I saw it Friday night and loved it! It's definitely in my top 5 Marvel movies. I loved the 90's feel, the acting and the relationship between Marvel and Fury. It was a blast to watch! We just watched, and I agree. Loved it.

How long has “tesseract” been a term? Was it A Wrinkle In Time that made it a thing or was it a thing before then? I have seen it referenced in other movies (Interstellar for one) and now this one.
A Wrinkle In Time is my favorite book so I was wondering lol.

So I saw it for a second time last week and loved it even more. And the End Game trailer where she meets Thor at the end? So so good. I cannot wait to see End Game!

I’m saving my grandparent babysitting credits for Endgame. I went on a movie date with myself! It was actually MH's idea, he goes to the movies sometimes by himself and suggested I go after work last Thursday and it was so great. Nobody touching me, nobody trying to eat my snacks, just two hours all to myself in a movie theater. I highly recommend it.

Ok I finally saw it. I am ready to put my flame suit on because it was a good movie but I didn’t love it. I really wanted to but I didn’t.
Things I liked:
I loved that there is finally a female lead comic book movie without a love story. The love story angle was the only thing that ruined Wonder Woman for me.
I loved all of Nick Fury. I liked the banter between nick and carol. The cat after credit scene is quite possibly my favorite after credit scene ever. Monica and Marie were awesome. I loved how comic book-ish the movie is. It’s the same reason I like guardians of the galaxy. In my head I can see panels like a comic book from scenes in the movie. I like the 90’s aspect, especially the soundtrack Things that I didn’t like:
Brie Larson. Sorry guys I just don’t think she acted the part very well. On that same level, I think Jude Law was a poor choice for his character. He pulled me out of the movie too much.
Could they have put anymore words across Brie Larson’s chest?! I get they were trying to push the 90’s thing with wardrobe choices but there was 0 reason to attract that much attention to her boobs.
There was more but I don’t remember right now.

marygracerich I will agree with you about Jude Law. I am not a fan. He’s always Jude Law to me and never the character in any of his movies. But the pros to the rest of the movie outweighed his casting for me.

But the pros to the rest of the movie outweighed his casting for me. I think not liking Brie Larson in this movie was the bigger problem for me. I could have excused Jude Law and said I loved the movie if someone else played captain marvel. I went into the movie with very low expectations because I didn’t think it looked great. I was hoping I was wrong and would be blown away. I wasn’t. I liked it but its probably in the bottom 5 or 6 marvel movies for me. 🤷🏻♀️

And I smiled big at the very beginning when they had all of Stan Lee's cameos and thank you Stan on the screen.

I don't think I even noticed her shirt had words on it. She wore NIN shirt for a good portion of the movie. And at the end it was a Heart shirt. I literally couldn’t stop seeing it.

From Tumblr. I love this so much.
mabeloni-sandwich- The biggest problem with every single bad review of Captain Marvel coming from a man is that none of them seem to comprehend a narrative that isn’t meant for them.
They see Carol finally breaking free from being gaslighted by the Kree as “emotionally underwhelming,” never realizing that a climactic, emotional showdown with her abuser would be giving him exactly what he wants. Being in control of her emotions? Choosing not to react to a provocation? That’s strength most male comic fans don’t understand. They see masculine-coded strength as the only valid kind. Carol not being angry and putting Yon-Rogg down in a shonen-esque battle doesn’t make sense to them because it’s not what they would have done.
They see a woman struggling to work through lies she’d been told as “bad narrative structure,” when in reality the movie was never about building Carol up from nothing, but about her realizing her true potential through seeing past those lies. Carol’s character arc parallels many women attaining social consciousness, throwing off patriarchal lies they’d been conditioned to accept about who they are and what they can do. Her story isn’t about attaining power, but about embracing her true potential that had been deliberately hidden from her.
They see Carol’s emotions not lining up with the lies her abusers told her about being too emotional as “bad writing” or “bad acting,” never realizing that that was exactly the point. They only understand defiance as impassioned, outward battles of will and pride, not understanding that quiet, steadfast refusal to bend to others’ designs of who you should be is strength too.
Brie Larson was absolutely right. Carol’s story is not for men. And nothing proves that more than all the fanboys who didn’t understand it throwing fits on the internet.
