I don't normally participate here, but was hoping you all could help.
DD is 6 months, cutting her first two teeth on the bottom. She's on day 4 of a nursing strike. I've been rotating Tylenol and Advil for teething pain and giving her bottles with a slow flow nipple. She will nurse overnight and sometimes before her first nap and bedtime. The rest of the day, she'll scream and push away when I attempt to nurse. I know some of it is also the age and becoming more aware of her surroundings. I was allowing her to nurse more at night, but it was getting to be every two hours and after a few days of that I feel like a zombie and in a horrible mood.
Any suggestions? How long will this last? At what point do I just give up and bottle feed? (I refuse to EP again, so I would start formula.) I'm at my breaking point and it's only been four days.

have you tried taking her into a quiet, dark room during the day to nurse? or nursing in a warm bath? skin to skin? hand expressing a little until you get a let-down, then offering the breast? more tips here: kellymom.com/ages/newborn/nb-challenges/back-to-breast/you can up solids during the day if she won't nurse and pump instead if possible. also, is there any chance that she could have an ear infection? that can make nursing uncomfortable. my kids have never done nursing strikes but from what i've seen on here they can go for just a couple of days up until 1-2 weeks before baby just goes back to nursing like nothing ever happened-- but i'm sure she will get past it. hugs and hang in there!

She normally prefers to nurse in a dark, quiet room, but that's only working at night. She screams at skin to skin, presumably because of nursing. I haven't tried the bath yet. I'm not quite ready to wean yet because she'll nurse a little better over night. She was just at the pedi last Friday for a check up and shots and her ears looked clear and no symptoms of other illness besides teething. My letdown has slowed quite a bit in the last few weeks and she has been getting frustrated with that. She actually bit me today, and drew blood with her new teeth, while waiting for a letdown.
I did get her to latch a little more right before each nap today if I gave her a little water in a bottle first. Maybe I'll get a little hand pump to help with the slow letdown.

She's still on strike during the day, but she will nurse decently over night and occasionally before a nap.
I've been pumping during the day, but my supply is taking a big hit.

Glad you got out the pump; sorry it’s necessary! During DS1’s worst nursing strike, I did lots of skin to skin without pressure to nurse, like cobathing or reading books or watching tv. I hung out topless lying down on the playmat where we kept his toys, and he started just taking sips as he played, and by that afternoon the strike was over. Good luck!

I'll keep your recommendations in mind for the next time she does this. (This is the second nursing strike with her.) Just when I was ready to give up, she started wanting to nurse for longer at nap/bedtime. I got her to nurse somewhere other than her room at a time that wasn't nap time. She hasn't done that in a few weeks. I can see she will have my stubborn traits. I can tell my supply is picking back up again.
