Hi there! I'm a long time lurker and was hoping I could get some opinions on names for my DD2. This is my first post so hopefully I do it right and sorry it's long and probably rambling. TLDR at end.
PDQ DD1 is *poof*. She goes by both Cora and the full name. Because of that, I'm stuck for our second girl feeling like I need a longer name that shortens to something I also love (for DD1, we liked Cora as a standalone name and almost went with that). All the names we like for DD2 it seems we either like the full name or nickname but don't love both.
The front runner is Rose.mary Alice. But I don't love Rose/Rosie. Thoughts on this name and would it be weird to shorten it to Rosa? Would Cora and Rosa be ok?
Others we like but have hang ups about: Alice Rose.mary - Alice doesn't really have/need a nickname and I'm not sure how well it goes with DD1's name.
Eloise - I think this one is out because Ellie is a no for various reasons and I think it's inevitable that's what it will get shortened to.
Cecilia - doesn't need a nickname.
I kind of like Becca as a nickname, but don't really like Rebecca.
TLDR: help me name Cora's little sister. Current favorites are Rose.mary Alice, Alice Rose.mary, and Eloise. Could we use Rosa as a nickname for Rosemary? Open to all comments on these names and other suggestions. Thanks!!

I vote for Alice Rosemary. I think Alice and your DD1's name/nickname go together very nicely.

I know two Cecelia's who go by CeCe. Love that name.

Although I would also take into consideration the full name with nickname issue, I wouldn't stress over it if you can't find anything that you love both of. Especially since your DD goes by both full name and nn and not solely her nn. Does that make sense?
With that being said, Rosa as a nn for Rosemary is totally fine. I don't love it with DD's nn though.
In general, I much prefer Eloise (as a full name only) and Cecilia/Cecelia (Cece).

It does make sense and I think I'm at the point I'm trying to get myself to focus less on the nickname issue. But then I start to wonder if I almost need to start from scratch in case I previously brushed something aside because I didn't like what it shortened to. Names are hard! I really appreciate everyone's comments!!

I like Alice more than Rosemary. Rosa is a fine nickname for Rosemary. I wouldn't stress about one having a nickname and one not as it's fairly common for only one child to have a nickname.

I don't think it would be a problem shortening to Rosa. However, I tend to fall into the team of if you hate a nn avoid the name since you can't control other people. I will also say that there was an Alice (or maybe Alyssa) that went by Lys. Even Ali could work if you really felt that you had to have a nn. As for Eloise, I don't think Nell would be a huge stretch if you like it.
One child having a nn and the other not doesn't seem like a big thing, especially if one name is shorter. You should go for a name you love over one that is okay, but fits the rules you put on yourself.
You seem to go for classic, so some other ideas: Aurora Celia Estelle Evelyn Florence Helena Julia Lucia/Lucille Magdalene Marcella Marion Nina Vivienne/Vivian/Viviana

I'm leaning towards going with Alice and not worrying about a nickname. I appreciate the suggestions! I had several of them on my list that H rejected for various reasons.

Alice and Cora sound great together, and since Cora is also a stand-alone name as well as a nn it wouldn't seem like either child was getting short-changed. Alice is beautiful. Use Alice.

My sister's name is a long name that is never shortened.
My name is a long name that is shortened all the time.
Summary; Siblings don't need the same naming rules.
I love Alice. I have a friend whose name is Alice with the nickname Ally.

Thanks for the link! I went on a google spiral the other day because H said he doesn't think Alice is as "pretty" as DD's name..whatever that means haha. I'm going to look through those names later to see if I get any other inspiration, although I'm still not giving up on Alice.

I have a friend whose name is Alice with the nickname Ally. I've been thinking about nn Ally lately and I'm starting to like it a lot more. Because it wasn't a name I would personally pick by itself I initially wasn't a fan, but it seems like a good option if someone wants to shorten it, although I still hope to call her Alice most of the time unless she decides otherwise when she's older.

I guess my final pause with Alice is its popularity. It's a family name and I've always liked it but I did see it's on the social security list top 100 (and I had to laugh when I saw it mentioned in another thread today as becoming super popular). I really don't want DD2 to be one of several girls named Alice in her class. I personally don't know any little girls with that name but I'll be bummed if we pick that and it becomes really popular.

Alice is popular now. Not like Emma or Olivia or Sophia, but popular. Even if it is popular does not mean it will be popular in your area. DD just finished K and there not one one girl with a top 5 name in her class.
As for the shortening of the name, don't let that be a reason to discard a name. DD is Evangeline and she is called Evangeline as I am not big on nicknames. Now, she is 5 and wants to be called Evie. At some point it is all out of our hands anyway. so just pick a name you love.

Not really relevant but I think Evie is super cute! I wanted to do Evelyn with that nn but then I realized Evelyn is apparently very popular too!

I had a friend whose real name was Mary-Margaret, but she was called Peggy. In class, she was officially Mary-Margaret, but because she thought of herself as Peggy, when teachers called out for Mary-Margaret, she hardly ever answered, even though SHE wrote her name on papers and forms as Mary-Margaret. More than once her friends had to nudge her into answering when her "name" was called.

It's nowhere near being popular to that point. Not even close. And since it doesn't have 18 million "alternate spellings," it's not going to become the next Caitlin/Catelyn/Katelyn/Kaitlin/Kaytlyn...

I have a coworker Cecilia that goes by "Ceci", with a Spanish accent.
I love how it sounds, and really fits her personality.

I have an Alice, and although she is only two, I've yet to run into another little Alice and get lots of compliments on the name. I think it's popular on this board but I don't know if that has trickled down to "real life."
Also, regarding nicknames, when I was pregnant I thought I might call my daughter "Ace" but that hasn't really happened yet.

I'm not comfortable enough to hang on out HIH at work so I pop on from my phone. This precludes long responses and picturea for now. I'll get there. Also? My kid eats up my time! She's almost one... less than a month. Hold me. How are you??? Surprise number two!!!!

And yes, total surprise! Still can't believe it most of the time. Aside from the shock, doing well, just trying to keep up with a now-mobile baby! Where does the time go?!
