Ok, I am going to post this in parts because I'm doing it from my phone and I don't want to type a bunch and lose it.
Wednesday 2/20 I was 34+6. Everything felt normal. I went to the bathroom and when I wiped I saw a small amount of bloody snotty discharge. I was like uh oh.
I call the ob when they open at 8:30. I already have an appointment for that day at 2:30. They tell me to monitor it and if I think I need to come in, do so but it wasn't sounding urgent. Otherwise they'd see me at 2:30. The ob is in the same parking lot as the hospital too, so that would be easy if I needed to walk over.
By 10am I had had maybe 2 more instances of bloody snotty discharge and I was picking up on some light cramping. I call my boss and let her know what was up and decided to instead of continue on with my day of driving to different schools to do my work, I would go back to my office to clean my desk out in case this was it.
My office mate was brought up to speed on me and she dragged me out of the office, took me to my house to drop off my car and pack a bag. She drove me to the hospital and I was there by 11am or so.
She hangs out for a bit and then I convince her to go. My h isn't on his way, but at this point there was no reason for him to be there anyway.
The docs check me and I'm not even 1cm dilated but I'm starting to efface (? I think). They start giving me shots of stuff (steroids for baby and something else for me to slow or stop labor). I just hang out basically forever. A while later they check me and...uh oh now I am 3cm. So they start me on magnesium sulfate to stop or stall labor. I'm having some light contractions this whole time.

I continue to hang out and now on total bedrest, not allowed to get up at all. It's maybe 4pm? I still haven't had my h come up because...why. They are still hoping its days until I deliver and they say that if I dont have the baby by Saturday I will be sent home on complete bedrest.
I'm given a bunch more stuff for either slowing labor or to help the baby if I do have him. Lots more mag sulfate which does make you feel terrible.
At this point I have an IV in my hand which is killing me and I am not a baby with needles. I also have a catheter which I found to be very scary and did hurt to put in. I also have a blood pressure cuff I have to wear continually as well as the thing on my finger for who knows what and some weird cuff around each leg because I can't get up. So 8 different things are attached in me or on me. I was so uncomfortable.
Basically I stay like this, having slight contractions all evening and into the late night. I'm also not allowed to eat anything real after the lunch they gave me at 12. Just broth and juice. I'm hanging out at 4.5 cm dilated. They want the continue to monitor me to see if they can stop my labor still. Contractions have spaced now from 3 min apart to 4-11 min apart. I have asked about the epidural like 10 times because I do not want to miss it like I did last time. Also I fill out the paperwork for it because I so wanted that epidural. They aren't going to give it to me yet because they still think they can stop labor because now in hours I have not gone past 4.5cm. It's sometime like 3:15 am at this point

All of a sudden the contractions really start hurting! (dun dun duuuuuuuun!)
Lots of pressure and way more pain. I call to have the nurse come back.
At this point I still haven't called my husband because honestly: 1. I was at a 4 all day and on tons of drugs to slow/stop labor 2. Last time all I wanted was for him to not talk and not touch me. 3. If he was there we'd what...just be sitting watch TV while I labored? He'd be sleeping while I labored and couldn't sleep because I had so much crap in/on me? Both those sounded annoying. 4. They kept telling me they were hoping my labor stopped and it wouldn't be today anyway. 5. He was home with our kid and honestly even though we had multiple options for people to watch Ramona, it all seemed like a bother and she was better off with him.
Well she checks me now and I am complete. Nurse says if you want to call anyone (husband) it's now or never. I call him and tell him it's happening now. I can feel there is no chance he'll be able to get my kid up at 3:40 am and get here in time. And even if he does I don't need her to see this. And I don't particular want his support because it truly is between me and my body at this point. I checked my phone and I called him at 3:37 am.
I am like What about the epidural I have been asking for all day???????????????MOTHER FUCKER.
So now I feel crazy pressure and I have to push. My water has not broken. I can't stop pushing and my water explodes. It's on. He is just coming and I am screaming, lol. They are like alright girl push! So I screamed him out of me and he was born at 3:48. 11 minutes after I called my husband.
He was screaming and pink and perfect. He went to the NICU where I suspect he will be for a week or more.
ETA oh and some random old dude hospitalist delivered him who was like...in the hallway or something. The ob on call was some where else in the building and couldn't get there. His middle name was also Leroy, which was cute.

So obviously no epidural. But I also had no tears this time, which is amazing. Here is the weirdest part.
I delivered my daughter at 35+2 for also no explained reason. The difference being with her I showed up at the hospital at 8cm with a bulging bag of waters and delivered her 23 minutes after walking in the door. This time I was like I am getting that damn epi so I showed up early and I still missed it.
But all is well that ends well and I feel great.

Yogurt Thank you for sharing your story! I am so glad you guys are doing well. Did your husband end up coming to the hospital? I’m not sure what I would do about middle of the night childcare.

Yogurt Thank you for sharing your story! I am so glad you guys are doing well. Did your husband end up coming to the hospital? I’m not sure what I would do about middle of the night childcare. He came the next morning after he dropped Ramona off at daycare. Which was fine. Maybe I'm weird, but I was fine alone! It was like I said, between me and my body anyway. And he was like, drag Ramona out of bed at 3:40? 😬

We have plenty of neighbors we could drop L off with during the day, but 3am is a whole different level of neighborly kindness!

Yogurt I would have done the same as you. SO gets super stressed in hospitals. If I wasn't having an RCS I'd prefer him not being there as well.

Wow Yogurt! What a crazy birth story. I’m so glad L is here safely, and that y’all are both doing well. I hope he doesn’t have to spend very long in the NICU.

Congratulations, Yogurt! What a wild story. I understand waiting to call, especially with another kid at home. I hope your little guy is out of the NICU soon.

Thanks again everyone. He got his iv out yesterday as well, so no more IV nutrition either. Just bili lights and has to hold down 50ccs of milk. He was up to 43 as of last night.
