Oh, also, school stuff, my professor asked me to apply for a study abroad trip in Greece this summer.
It’s fourteen days and sounds more than amazing.
Pete said we can make it work, but I don’t know if I can leave the babies for that long.

cagoldi, DO IT! When will you ever have a chance like that again! And you will miss the kids but gain so much and it will be a blip on their radar. I’m so conflicted. On the one hand, it’s like “Pete has had long business trips and the kids were fine.” But fourteen days plus travel is A LOT. He’s like “Greece? This sounds an awful lot like a vacation!” Yes, but I get school credit! And my mom will be more than willing to fill in for me to help him manage the kids. |

ETA but I’ve never been away from the kids for more than three days & never overnight without my H. |

cagoldi Think about it as if you were an MBA student...you would likely be doing some foreign travel for that (or at least the MBA candidates I know have done so). I think if you can get your mom to help out so Pete isn't completely solo for 2+ weeks, I'd at least investigate the possibility!

cagoldi I say you should go. I think it would be tough to leave the kids for that long, but they will be with P and your mom, who are both more then capable! It sort of bugs me that that women (not you, just in general) have so much hesitation about these sorts of things when most men don't. And I am such a hypocrite b/c I've never been away from the kids for more than 2 nights but part of that for me is logistics. I can't trust MH schedule to be home, and my parents can't/ won't stay with the kids. So I can't book anything. If I had younger parents and/or a husband that didn't travel so often and so last minute, you betchya I'd go to Greece! Edit to add - and the bonus is a sign saying you should go! Esp since it sounds like P is totally on board!

Okay, so here’s the thing, he works hard but honestly? He got very lucky. This is one of those things where he was working twice as hard when he was making half as much. It’s a shitty reality of corporate America and he just happens to be a beneficiary of it now. He was exposed to the right people, in the right team, at the right time. Another interesting piece is, he gets more money now that he has kids. I mean, I’ve read over the years how men usually see their earnings increase after becoming a father and women see their wages stagnate or fall, but it’s been totally true in his case. He has bosses explicitly tell him that they want to make sure he gets a good bonus to take care of Poppy, buy a bigger house for his children, etc. You better believe me and other women who have taken maternity leave (or multiple leaves) recently aren’t getting major bonuses and raises because we are mothers. Sexist AF. I’m not complaining because like I said, we happen to benefit from it, but I see the inequities, for sure. |

Got an email from the elementary school that M is all enrolled for K. They have a Kinder roundup thing Apr 2 at 8am where you get a tour, meet the kindergarten teachers and speak to the magnet coordinator about what they offer. Then mid August we'll receive a letter with who her teacher is when orientation will be.
M just wants to know if she'll have to take a nap there.

We weren't married yet and certainly didn't have kids, and I STILL had reservations about leaving. Meanwhile I would have been front and center encouraging him if the tables were turned, yet I was just fixated on people thinking I prioritized my career over him. Which is so dumb but I totally get the hesitation. That said, I absolutely encourage cagoldi to go. PEER PRESSURE!  |
