Ladies! Let’s have a great start to a fab February and leave our not so great January behind. Tell me how was your SB weekend? Thawing out after last week’s polar vortex?

rebeccabunch you’re welcome here anytime along with you other lurkers! We miss all of you. Check in from time to time. We’re still here but there are not as many of us posting and not as frequent. I try to check in and I have no excuse with 2 and you have 3! How is life with 3? Has baby girl already turned 1?

We didn’t SB yesterday. Unless it’s the GBP playing, hubs isn’t interested and I don’t football, not American football. doodlemommy I’m excited for you and hope you can find something and get your current house on the market. The short timeline certainly makes it stressful. Today is lunar new year eve and I cleaned over the weekend to be rid of last year’s bad luck and welcome the new year. Hubs is working so I’ll cook a nice meal on Saturday instead of tomorrow. I wish there was a dim sum place worth going out here but alas, I’ll get better dim sum making it myself at home. Speaking of taxes, I almost have all the docs and spreadsheets gathered so hoping I can start working on it soon. I hate doing taxes!

Dusky and Taitai thank you!
Baby had her first birthday last week. She started walking a few days before that and seeing her toddling around and trying to keep up with her brothers or the cats is the cutest thing ever. I’m definitely taking in the moments more with her but I was not sad when she turned one. Our family being complete feels really right.
We sleep trained back in November and it was as magical as everyone says. I still can’t believe we dropped nursing to sleep and swaddling (yes I was still swaddling at 9 months. I can’t end things. I’m the worst) at the same time. Not nursing to sleep has relieved a lot of stress from me. We are down to 5 feedings a day. She eats more food than my 4 year old so I’m hoping to drop another feeding soon. I’m ready to be done but know my body needs to do it gradually.
What else?!? Work got really hard when she was still being really hard and I thought about taking a 3 month break and looking for a new job but I didn’t. Things have leveled off a bit and I’m doing better. Ds1 started having a lot of anxiety about going to school and it took over our house. He was fine with the actual school work and being at school, it was the leading up to school and then transitioning back home after school that were big problems. I think this is when I stopped posting because I was kind of over everything and didn’t have many positive things to say and I kind of recoiled within. We got him seeing a little therapist and he’s doing so much better! He loves going and it’s so funny because as a kid I was the same way he is. I cared so much about being the best at everything. He’s the same way. Its interesting because I know it’s something that you are just born with. It’s internal. We didn’t put this pressure on him. And my parents must not have put it on me either. I’ve learned a lot and I’m just glad he will learn coping strategies early that I wish I had learned.
Otherwise I’m the same! I still like wine and good TV shows. I’m still tired a lot. One thing new is I’m super into working out. I didn’t work out for 8 years and now if I don’t get to work out 4-5 times a week I’m frantic. I didn’t think I had the time but the time was there. I do club Pilates and it’s perfect for me in every way from the different workouts to the signing up for classes. Just going to a gym does not work for me.
I look forward to seeing how everyone is doing!

We are still in the midst of extreme cold over here. The high today is -26C (-15 F according to google) and the windchill takes it down to -42C (-44F). We also got somewhere around 30 cm of snow 😳 DD’s preschool cancelled today.

DH is picking up some boxes on his way home so we can finish packing up our house to get it organized for photos and showings. The house we liked is still available and there are no tracks in the snow (I drive past it in my regular drives, not going out of my way to check) which hopefully means not much interest. The other two we checked out were total disasters, like need to gut the whole house pretty much. Hopefully we can have our house ready for pictures this week and can get it listed by next week, eek!

First day back to school in awhile so the routine felt nice.
DD2 is getting her immunity-blood check thing Wednesday. I’m already steeling myself for holding her down and lots of screaming. Unfortunately, we’re spproaching CD1 so my supply for nursing & soothing is minimal.
However, both girls have been sleeping like a champs lately and I hope it lasts. I am pushing my luck lately by staying up and reading but the long uninterrupted bouts of sleep are so nice

Happy February! We did not watch the SB at all. Not interested.
Work is so so so busy. It’s kicking my ass but I’m managing to get it all wrapped up within business hours so I don’t bring that crap home. I did just finish a 4 month long project that went out nationally and I am getting all sorts of positive feedback. So that feels good considering I’ve been there 5 months.
The toddler is starting to just play with his food. I’m trying so hard to balance letting him feed himself yet not waste all of it by feeding it to the dogs. If I feed him he tries to hit the fork out of my hand so that’s fun.

I had a massage and a facial at the fancy spa in the city today. DH got me a gift card last Christmas and I finally found the time to go. It was 10C so perfect spring weather to walk around the city a bit and do some shopping. The Japanese version of H&M opened some stores here and I got a super cute hello kitty shirt for DD1. danvers Good luck tomorrow! duskymonkey What’s on the menu? We found a gluten free Chinese buffet in the city that has dim sum... I can’t wait to check it out. rebeccabunch Nice to see you! doodlemommy Wait until you see tire tracks to make a low offer, maybe you can get a deal and have more money in your pocket for renos.

My littlest has been really struggling with sleep, anyone else? I know that he has alllllll of his molars trying to come through, and is fighting a cold, but nothing helps him calm down and I'm tired. He had been sleeping so well!
I've been busy, running kids around everywhere and working on girl scout stuff (yayyy cookie season 🙄) . I got our taxes done over the weekend, and it finally warmed up enough to get outdoors, which felt so good! We are very ready for spring! Our area is great for outdoors activities, and we just got kayaks, which I'm excited for!
I'm trying to start working out again, which I enjoy when the kids cooperate. I can't do a gym since we live in a super rural area. It's just not worth driving 30 miles round trip multiple times a week on top of all of my other running around.

rebeccabunch so good to hear from you! It sounds like things have settled down with the kids and are going well for now. I can’t believe LO is one! curmudgeon LO refuses to let me use a spoon or fork to help her. And she wants a spoon or fork if we have one... not that she can use it well (or at all sometimes). Toddlers be toddlin’ mommabakes Girl Scout cookie! 🍪 I feel you on the working out thing. I love many things about rural life and it wasn’t an issue pre-kids to drive to work out but I’m not willing to comprise the little time I get with them right now. I live me some Jillian Michael when I did at home workouts. She’s not everyone’s cup of tea but I like her motivation style.

The baby was running and fell and somehow tore his upper lip frenulum which bled so so so much. On the bright side, he had a bit of a lip tie and I was worried it would affect his teeth so maybe it won’t heal back in between the 2 top like it was.

Each tooth down, especially a molar is cause for celebration. DD has been the slowest with teeth by far of all my kids with just her bottom two.

Anyone watching Victoria this season or True Detective?
I’m catching up on Victoria now.
As I mentioned Sunday, this season of Crazy ex GF has been great. Does TNT still post?

DS2 is getting his first canine. I'm sure it is time, but dang it, we were just getting over his molars. It seems like he's getting teeth so much faster than DS1. Also, with DS1 we'd just notice a new tooth every so often. With DS2, it is very......obvious. So fussy.

ANGRY stupid work rant ahead 😤 😡 😠 😡 😤
We were told TODAY that starting Feb 20 and lasting for 6 weeks we would be expected to stay at work (just the teachers) for an extra 1.5hr for professional development because one of our PD days was a “snow day” and we were still paid for it.
The issue comes because we already max out the 45 hours the girls can be at daycare without having to pay an extra $100.00 a week so they can stay longer. H offered to up a sick day or personal day so we wouldn’t have to keep them their longer (and pay) and then even offered to take it unpaid (because one “day” of PD is not worth the 600.00 it would cost to make this feasible).
HR is looking into it because there’s nothing in our contract that says we can’t...
H and I are going to talk to the director tomorrow to see if we can do a new schedule just for these weeks which will suck because it means me leaving work exactly at contract time and not a second later to get to daycare on time for pick up. Some days leaving at my “contract time” is not really the time I am done as a teacher 😡 so this will ultimately mean some weekend time in my classroom to make sure I’m ready and prepared 😑😡😤

Also DD2 didn’t get her blood draw today because they want a second nurse there (only one was working at the lab this afternoon) to help hold her down since she’s so little and so we’re headed back next Tuesday morning instead.

Ugh danvers. Am I reading it right that you have to work 1.5 hours longer every day for 6 weeks? That blows. I'm so sorry. I hope you can figure something out with daycare. DS2 was supposed to have a blood draw at 1 year old for lead and iron and I tried twice. Neither time worked out due to the same issue you're running into. The second time I lost it on the poor girl who was working. I made an appt and gave the patient details, so they should've known or called me ahead of time to reschedule. Then DH hurt his back and FF to now and we never got those labs done. They didn't say anything at his 15 month checkup so 🤷♀️ I hope it goes better next Tuesday.

We got ice yesterday so today was a snow day for DH. The roads weren't that bad this morning so I went to work. We're getting more ice tonight and they're saying it is gonna be bad so we're preparing for us all to be home tomorrow. So ready for winter to be over!!

danvers I’m sorry work is sucking. Its one of the reasons I decided to freelance. We rather lose a chunk of income and forgo some luxuries than our sanity....it’s mostly me driving everyone insane 🙄. Keep us updated about DD2. Thinking of you and her 😘 CoachTsWife , we didn’t do a blood test either at lil fellas 12 month and just did it at his 15 month which was this past Monday. It was actually not too terrible considering he screamed bloody murder the minute we walked into the exam room at the clinic. It took almost a half hour for me to calm him down. He clung on to me and I couldn’t put him down and the pedi had to take a look at him with him clinging on to me for dear life 🤦🏻♀️ Anyways he finally calmed down to the environment so I decided to just do the test instead of returning back.

duskymonkey Gong Xi Fa Cai!! May the year of the pig bring happiness, health, and prosperity to you and your family 😊🎉. Also - I don’t believe that video of the baby eating with chop sticks - no way!!! rebeccabunch Thanks for the update! So glad you are back in your groove, and awesome about the work outs! Pilates is something I’ve always wanted to try. Maybe once DS2 is weaned... danvers Booooo to all of that work stuff. I am sorry the blood draw didn’t work out either. I got to sleep in a little today since I’m attending a conference close by vs driving the usual 50 miles to the office. H just left with the kids and I’m sitting in silence drinking (HOT!) coffee. I may get up and actually cook a breakfast, too.

This week has been so busy, the time has gotten away from me! We had a fun Chinese New Year party at our place yesterday, where we had 7 adults, 2 tweens, and 3 toddlers all celebrating the year of the pig! We put on the CCTV gala, cooked 12 dishes, drank a little baiju (chinese rice wine - it’s sooo strong, I can barely drink it), gave the kids hong baos (little red envelopes filled with some money), and stuffed ourselves with so much food. Really great time.
The air quality has been good this week too, which has been nice. DS1 unfortunately came down with a high fever earlier in the week, but miraculously he didn’t give it to DS2 or anyone else in the family yet. 👍
My parents are coming for a visit in a few days, so I’m also running around prepping for that. So excited to have them out here! I know they will just soak up the time with the kids, DH, and I. Can’t wait for them to be here!

We have our orthopedic appt today at 3, so I'm looking forward to that. Good news is E slept until 8 which means we can do a 1 nap day and make it in time for her appt. If we did 2 naps, shed be asleep until at least 3:30 so yeah.
I'm not expecting anything from this appt but I'll keep you all updated.

danvers That is awful, hopefully something can be worked out. I’m always surprised reading about all the snow days for people here, the roads have to be incredibly impassible for the schools to be closed here, the buses may be cancelled but the schools are open. duskymonkey That baby is amazing, and he’s not even using training chopsticks! Taitai That’s good to know about the quality, I was looking at a few things for myself and the kids but don’t know anyone who has shopped there yet. rebeccabunch I forgot about the new season of True Detective, season 1 was so good season 2, not so much.
