I usually just lurk here but the Italian and Irish family talk has me laughing. My dad's side is mostly Irish, and we do the thing where people closely guard recipes... for really midwestern things like tuna casserole. My one aunt is still pissed at another because she shared the recipe with Aunt Jan or whatever, and the next thing you know, it's Aunt Jan's specialty and she's bringing it to every family gathering like it's "Aunt Jan's" Tuna Casserole.
Stuff like that pisses them right off. Talk about grudges! 😂
They will specifically leave out of ingredients/steps/wrong oven temps/etc. so that no one can steal recipes now.

I don't want to think about how much time I would spend in a Kardashian thread. It's better for my self-respect if it stays here. I would have such bad FOMO I’d end up having to actually watch my first episode of the show. Through you guys I can almost always keep track of which one is Khloe and which one is Kylie! I don’t know if it’s an Irish thing but my family doesn’t do the dead to me thing and instead holds lifetime grudges while being nice to the persons face and telling everyone else how they slighted you thirty years ago. My mom is still mad at her sisters for taking stuff when their mom died, although my mom was there and could have spoken up. Instead it’s “she has the nerve to think I wouldn’t want it!” Sometimes these petty Betty things come out with drinking but usually they just bubble under the surface for a lifetime. My MIL is part Italian and does the dead to me thing like no other. It’s impressive really. Coming out of lurkerdom to say that is absolutely the most Irish thing ever. We present a great front and everything is really a shit show. see all of this is exactly what holidays are like for us as well. |

Look, to be fair about the Jussie thing, there were some odd things from the jump. The first thing I asked when it happened was if it was targeted because it seemed strange that these random people knew who he was on the street in the MOTN. I’ve been following some threads about the case in other places and there were some skepticism about it and the skepticism made sense..I think we walk a thin line with these things because I don’t ever want to doubt a victim. I also don’t think someone is automatically an asshole for saying, “that seems strange”. I think at this point it seems clear that this was a hoax. And it’s shitty. Because people are going to say that all MAGA-hate crimes or victims of any crime they want to wash away are hoaxes. In a lot of ways, I don’t even feel that’s it’s my venue to be upset about the Jussie situation. But, it’s a bad look and I’m upset about it. And I don’t think the cops or all the people who initially doubted the story are the assholes here. This is the best way to put this and how I feel about the situation. When I first heard it I was outraged for him, but thought the same thing about being targeted, but then it came out about the letter to the studio so I was all in again that he was targeted and outraged. It is has been such a range of emotion |
