I go here now lol yay! Waiting for latest torodol dose to kick in so I can dangle my legs and stand, apparently that's my first job then I'll walk around 8am they said. Pumping myself up to be tough because I know the more active I can be the faster all will heal!

I’m ready to send this baby back to the hospital for a refund.
I don’t get it you guys. He is so mellow all day long and then at night he becomes this inconsolable devil child. He just will NOT settle. I’ve been at it for an hour and a half now and finally made MH go in and try rocking him because I’m exhausted and this close to just going to bed and leaving him in his crib to scream until he tires himself out.
The five S’s have nothing on this kid. Anyone have any magic bullets for getting their LO to go to sleep?

So far I've slept fitfully 2 hours in the wee hours this morning, and half an hour tonight 10:30-11. That's it. Whenever I have a stretch of time between med or baby visits, my brain zips wide awake and I can't even think of resting. Then the exhaustion will finally hit and I'll want l to sleep more than anything I've ever wanted but there's never a chance... Just fed DS and they took him back to bili lights, then I peed, grabbed my colace and gas x, am about to pass out, but realize they're going to come with med injection in like 5 min. It always ends up like this.
Tonight had been really special though, I fed baby and changed him for the first time and am feeling way more like his legit ma! DH went home to sleep overnight (so happy he did, he'll get a much needed break for his back!) And I spent the evening walking the Halls like a boss.

sunshiney I have always had that issue in the hospital too. They do tend to come around an awful lot for meds, BP checks, etc. etc. and it makes it harder than you’d think it would be to actually sleep. Hope you find a good stretch somewhere in there tonight!

dashook I wish I had the answer. Finn hates sleeping. We ordered a swing today in desperation. He won’t settle down even when I can see he’s exhausted he fights sleep and cries whenever I lay him down. Last night was tough. He fell asleep this evening around 8ish and to my own horror I just woke him up because I was worried him going so long without eating. sunshiney you’re doing awesome!! C section recovery is no joke! Glad to hear you’re doing so well. I hope you can get some rest. They definitely have no problem waking you up to get vitals or whatever they need. 😑

sunshiney I had awesome nurses that wouldn't wake me if I was as sleeping. They just asked me to let them know when I was awake during the night, and they came and did their thing then to avoid interruptions. Maybe you can request that do that. Sleep is so helpful in recovery, especially after a csection. Glad you were able to see your baby as nd walk around. Just remember not to push yourself too hard!

sunshiney glad you’re feeling well. I found it impossible to sleep in the hospital. Between the uncomfortable bed, the constant monitoring and the random beeping. It was hopeless. You are far kinder than I am, I for sure make my H suffer through the uncomfortable hospital cot lol

dashook I’m sorry. I def have to tag out and have MH take over sometimes. it’s so hard to know if they are overtired, not tired, hungry, not hungry, gassy. The options are endless 🤷🏻♀️. It doesn’t help that babies, at least my babies, only seem to be calmed by me.

k me too! I can always get him calmed down, MH not so much and he gets frustrated and wants to know why he’s so fussy all the time. MH wasn’t allowed to leave the hospital. I let him leave one afternoon when my parents were there to stay with me but he slept on the cot. I was a little traumatized by my birth and I couldn’t have handled him not being there. sunshiney hope you’re both feeling rested today!

@amc thank you! Finn was much better last night! 🙌🏻 he slept for a few long stretches and he seems much happier today. I think we were both exhausted!

DD2 didn’t sleep until 4:30am. Up every 15 minutes or so until then. At 5:15 H took over and I slept until almost 8. I am wiped out now.
We ended up leaving the hospital ASAP because it’s so hard to sleep there. One awful night was enough. Even with DD2 not sleeping, I am much more comfortable in my own space.

The five S’s have nothing on this kid. Anyone have any magic bullets for getting their LO to go to sleep? I have no helpful advice and can only say we are really struggling at night as well. LO is really gassy and uncomfortable and spits up as soon as he lays down. He also eats every 1.5 hours. DH and I are essentially running shifts. I go to bed with the big kids at 7 (so really 8 or 8:30). He stays up with LO until about 11 and then gets up with him at 5:30. I cosleep with LO from 11 to 5:30. (No blankets/pillows, etc.) He seems to stay calmer when he is with me. I still spend most of that time feeding and holding him but I am 'resting.' I keep the lights off and keep things quiet so we can fall right back asleep. The feel like the early sleep when DH is up with LO is what is saving my sanity.

Finn slept so much last night! I laid him down around 11:30 and finally at 6 I woke him up to eat. I feel like I shouldn’t have let him sleep that long but we were both so tired. He barely slept at all the night before and he had a marathon nursing session before we went to bed. Now he’s passed out again in his baby glider! dashook how are you doing? I hope LO is letting you get some rest!

strawberrykiki that's awesome! ! We were excited this morning when baby napped for just over six hours (after being a voracious feeder so we weren't worried) and I was fantasizing about the long stretches of sleep we'll get, but then he didn't want to eat when he woke which worried us. Ped said his stomach hadn't emptied yet after all that time, and there are signs he has acid reflux developing and slow stomach emptying. So he said no rocking to soothe him, rubbing only no patting when burping, burp every 1/2 oz or so, and only gentle movements when holding him.

A has to be the most difficult child I've had to burp out of the kids. Maybe my patience for it has just gone down but seriously, it feels like a losing battle. Ugh.
I feel like things are settling into a new normal finally but the real test will be in the next two weeks when I don't have people scheduled to be with me during the day and DS2 is home full time with me.

@amc, My DS2 is the same. He generally plays alone unless DS1 decides they can play together. And if that fails, watching Ferdinand will give us almost 2 hours lol

I spent hours last night trying to get Finn to sleep. He was screaming unless he was nursing. Even when nursing his eyes were wide open. I had a really bad mom’ing moment of frustration where I just had to put him down and walk away and MH thankfully took over for awhile and got him calmed down. Aren’t babies supposed to sleep most of the time? He fights sleep all the time until finally he’s so exhausted he just cries and cries. We will watch him as his eyes get heavy and he keeps waking himself up instead of going to sleep. 😴

Hugs strawberrykiki. It can be so frustrating. DS1 went through a brief stage of doing that and I almost lost my mind. Luckily, I was able to call my mom and I just sobbed to her while she told me everything was going to be fine and it helped more than I thought it would.

strawberrykiki, There is nothing wrong with putting baby down and walking away. A fussy baby and little sleep is tough and knowing when you need to take a minute is important. I hope you are able to nap some today. Hang in there momma.

strawberrykiki oh that is so hard. DH has been unpleasantly surprised to see that the newborn who literally only slept, ate, pooped, repeat at the hospital now has added fussing and taking time to get to sleep to his repertoire. He thought how easy things were in the first couple sleepy days were indicators that we just had an easy going baby who would never cry or something!!

strawberrykiki that is so exhausting and hard when they fuss and refuse to sleep. Hang in there, it feels like forever but it does pass.

sunshiney yes MH is exactly the same! He generally gets more frustrated than I do. Babies cry! I’m doing my best but I’m taking the brunt a lot more than he is really. I’m sure you are too.

strawberrykiki so frustrating! But I think we’ve all been there, when enough feels enough, walk away. He’ll be fine crying for a few while you collect yourself. Is he gassy? When S is super fussy gas is usually the culprit. I don’t realize it of course until she farts and burps a few times and then is a different baby. I remember I used gripe water a lot with DD1, I plan to add it to my amazon cart, bc it can’t hurt

TashaLa sometimes I think he might be because he will be fussy and then do some burping and tooting and seem to calm down. I’ll have to look for that on amazon!

Going on 2hr now. The little snorts she does have become more irritating than endearing. She seems to be refusing to sleep on her own in her cosleeper which wouldn't normally be annoying but I'm hurting tonight and not being able to roll over is just not an option. I've gotten good burps and changed two diapers so no idea what's up with her.
So tired. H is snoring and I want to punch him.

Got up to nurse/pump at 430 and DD1 (3.5) decided she needed to get up too. I was really hoping for a quick feed and then back to bed before the day started, but no such luck. Instead we're on the couch watching Puppy Dog Pals. Something tells me I will need a nap at some point today. thelittleredm, DD2 is a very grunty baby, I swear during the day she is a pretty silent sleeper, but then at night she makes all kinds of noises! I hope your DD settles soon and you can get back to sleep.

I'm struggling to stay awake for this early morning feed. We've had a decent night and we all managed to get in bed early but I think several days of very early mornings has caught up with me. I'm really trying to finish weaning from the pump so that wake ups will be shorter. The whole nursing and then pumping thing takes so much longer. I don't want a clogged duct or mastitis though so I have to wean slowly since I have oversupply issues.
