What shoes do you love for babies just starting to walk?
I want something that’s decent quality and supportive, but not super expensive.

Shoes aren't really necessary until walking is well established. Especially if he's just going to be cruising around indoors, any soft sole slipper is fine.
For first shoes I love See Kai Run and Champions make great lightweight, flexible sneakers that are super affordable.

I don't put shoes on my kids much when they're just learning to walk, but I like the little leather shoes with leather soles for starting out. I bought some for N from H&M.

L is not walking independently yet, so we definitely have some time. He’s doing fine walking behind things and cruising in just socks or his soft baby shoes for now. I guess I mean what shoes do you like for their first real pair of shoes? Like real structured and supportive shoes, not the soft baby shoes.

For this spring/summer O will probably end up with a pair of converse and a pair of SeaWee sandals or Freshly Picked sandals.

I liked Robeez. With E I used them from when she started walking (around 1) until the weather got not great so until 16-18 months. Now we looooove See Kai Run shoes. They're a little $$ but they also last. All of her SKR shoes are in good condition to hand down to N. The Target shoes that were half the price, not so much.

we also had see kai run shoes for dd1 after she really got the hang of walking. we started with flexible leather soles (that were nonslip) for when she first started. i feel like i remember reading somewhere that is important for them to be able to feel the ground when they first start so they get a sense of balance. i don’t know i could be making that up. i think those were pediped brand. both were a little bit more expensive, but they are still in great shape and i’m hoping the sizes will be right for dd2.

Skidders. Luckily this kid isn’t walking yet. Her sister was already running around by now.

I've bought all of my toddler's shoes at Gap, but I'm going to check out some of these other brands.

Frshly picked 100%. They are worth every penny IMHO and you can get great deals if your join their “members only” program or watch for the big sale. (I think one usually happens around Easter!) They are they only shoes that both girls would keep on their feet. I lost so many other shoes that I’ll happily pay a bit more for FP stuff. They also have great BST groups where you can grab very gently used shoes.
DD2 will be in the soft soles until about 18mos probably and then she’ll transition to mini soles in the late fall, assuming she is walking well by then.

Shameless plug - I can send a referral code for a percentage off of FP if anyone is interested.

I bought a pair of soft sole Pediped shoes for DS1 and a pair of stride rite shoes. Both of them are still in good condition so I am using them again.

I was always told barefeet is best. When out and about I stick to Stride Rite for my kids when they are early walkers.
