Sick kids? Stuck inside because of the weather? Is January actually the worst?

curmudgeon I hope your it’s a one off puke for your LO. I am still sick and the kids are not. I’m planning on going into work tomorrow but my throat is sore and I’ve not got much of a voice so I’m not sure how that’s going to work seeing as my job involves a lot of talking to people. I may leave early to save on sick time and use a lot of signs and type things on my computer. It’s our wedding anniversary today and it’s been kinda crappy since everyone has been sick and I have zero energy to do anything special for my DH. I promised him we’d do something and DD1 overheard and asked if there would be cake.

Oh super serious question... how do you explain guns to your kids? DD came home from daycare and some duplo was loosely resembling a gun shape and she picked it up and said it was a gun and pointed it. She seemed to think it was a fun thing to do and said she was playing it with 2 other boys. I’m going to talk to the daycare to see how they address it when they see it.
I told her that I don’t like that game and we don’t play it at home... I had to redirect her 2 or 3 more times and she dropped it the rest of the night. I’m not sure if it was on her mind because me and DH had a brief discussion about firearms on Sunday in terms she wouldn’t really understand but she’s never actually seen one except maybe in a cartoon or on a police officer.

August Blooms Happy anniversary - sorry you’re sick. It sucks being sick as a parent because I feel like I should suck it up and save my sick days for my kids. Ugh. As to the gun thing, we do not let DD1 ever pretend to shoot a person. Ever. Never. No compromise. There are family members who have guns in their homes and we want to make it clear from the get-go guns are not toys. Both H and I were raised around guns but do not have any in our home. I am team trust-no-bitch when it comes to family leaving guns unlocked around the house (even though no one has ever done that yet) so we are starting early and often and reminding her guns are not toys and she should tell a grownup right away. Neither of us have anything against laser guns or nerf guns but at 3.5 that’s not the a thing for her yet (or maybe ever) so for now all guns (LEGO, paper, and even finger guns) are banned until we’re fairly certain she can differentiate between real (and the rules that go with real guns) and fake. I’m still team “never point it at a person” but realize that defeats the purpose of many nerf and laser games. *steps off soap box I didn’t realize I had gotten up on

It was a snow day today! We just hung out around the house because it was like -7 outside. Feeling a little stir crazy and hoping to get to work/school tomorrow. We have a delayed start already due to cold and ice. There is only so much Sophia the First (DD1s new favorite show) and playdoh I can take! DD2 has been super clingy and I wonder if her eye teeth are finally coming in?

August Blooms, happy anniversary! i just finished my antibiotics for a sinus infection this morning so yay! M should be done with hers this week. Her 15 month appointment is today so they will be able to tell me if her ears look better. I'll ask them about the frequency of the EI's she seems to get and hopefully they will tell me something. I don't know how ear tubes work but it sounds not fun. we didn't leave the house yesterday it was soooooo cold. H had to go to work though. Glad to be back to a normal schedule!

danvers I have the same feels about the pretend pointing and having those sorts of toys in the house. Firearms aren’t really a thing here, I know people who keep long guns for hunting but it’s not very common or spoken widely about as many people where I live have no reason to own one. That is a good rule about safety wise telling the kid to get an adult, I think because firearms are not common in our circles it doesn’t mean that they won’t be around and instilling those rules right off the bat isn’t a bad thing. Ugh parenting is hard.

Feeling better today and potentially have a new job opportunity... a lateral move into something different. I just have to write a letter of interest, I hate promoting myself it feels so fake but I have to do it.

Who is using a spoon?
E is getting the hang of it but I'm pretty sure she will never be able to use one for something like... soup. Right now its yogurt and that's dodgy.

DS likes to dip his spoon in things and then bang it on the table. Or let food drip off of it. Successfully using a spoon, not so much

DD had her first ballet class of the new session this morning and she loved it. She is super timid when it comes to new situations but we got lucky and there were just 3 little girls and a teacher she has had before, she had a blast! DS fell asleep in the van on the way home at like 10:50, I let him sleep until we got home but then woke him up. I put him down at 12:30ish and I’m crossing my fingers for one long nap 🤞

cythe same here, kind of inconsistent. Mostly she just dips the spoon into yogurt and licks it off. Whatever works kid.

cythe Daycare has had DD using one for a month or so. She’s starting to get the hang of Apple sauce but definitely no soup yet.

I had DD2’s intake mtg for EI testing for speech services. It’s the same lady who did DD1’s. We have zero words over here and barely babbles - just screeches. Testing isn’t till mid-February so it’s still going to be awhile.

Well....LO woke up early this morning and promptly threw up all over both of us. I stayed home with him and soaked up his snuggles. Man, it is hard to see them sick. He's doing tons better but we have to keep him home from daycare tomorrow so my mom is coming to help as long as he has a good night and no one else falls ill. 🙏🙏🙏 🤞🤞🤞

Meh...sounds like everyone is some sort of sick. Hoping it will go away soon. CoachTsWife hugs! you need a break. Hoping it's a one time thing and he'll be back to himself. danvers , Feb is just round the corner seems like will be here in a blink. You also need a break after all the sickness. Any updates about baby on that front? August Blooms , we haven't brought up the subject of guns. The only thing DS knows about pistols is it squirts water. This summer, I got a pack of water pistols so his knowledge about it is associated with water...this is a tough one to navigate esp. with all the school shootings. This scares me since we live out in the country and I have no doubt many households out here own guns. Right now we're going to hold off about discussing it with him until the need arises from either him talking about it or in the next year or 2 when he would be able ( hopefully ) to understand that it's a dangerous weapon which can cost a life which another subject he can't fully grasp yet - we read and talk about how dinosaurs are extinct and died off and from watching nature shows about animals and their prey etc. but no matter how we explain end of life, I can see he can't grasp and comprehend it. cythe have you had a chance to inquire if E would qualify for another EI eval? I know it just seems like you had one not too long ago but I am thinking if your pedi is concerned then s/he would have referred you another one. Isn't it why we have baby well checks every 3 months to track their growth and progress? Big hugs to you, it's gotta be hard to read about the other babies. FWIW, there is no way we're handling spoons here. I mean lil fella can't even aim food in his mouth with his fingers right...let alone a spoon. Taitai your trip up north sounds wonderful! I loooveee elephants. Please share your adventures with us. Also I thought you were heading back to the states soon or was I wrong?

It's a frigid 12 degrees out now. It snowed this morning and it was a lot more than predicted and it took me almost 50 minutes to get DS to school! I would've kept him home except I had an US appt. which I made it just by the skin of my teeth after dropping him off at school. I think everybody didn't expect to get so much snow, even the schools weren't delayed or anything. It took me almost 2 hours to shovel the driveway and sidewalks. I am going to be sore oy! We do have a snowblower but it felt good hoisting the shovel - I am a sucker for punishment. Anyways the US tech couldn't find my left ovary and gave up. I know it's there and assured her it's there and that she needed to press my abdomen to find it which she did but she didn't press hard enough - I know from my many follie checks during IVF how the tech would have to push really hard and its painful. I also know she had to use a different dildo cam which I mentioned to the US tech but I am guessing she doesn't have it. I think the fertility clinics have a much more sensitive US equipment. So now we wait until I have a follow up with my OB next week to see the state of my ute. I would be totally ok if we had to do a hysterectomy since it kinds bothers me now and giving me a pooch.

Happy weekend! Supposed to be 60 and sunny today. Both kids are currently playing with my amazon delivery of toilet paper and I’m drinking hot coffee for once. We have 2 birthday parties today. I’m going to need a nap afterwards.
DS2 is good with a fork but not a spoon. We are still sticking with pouches for yogurt and applesauce because I can’t bear to clean any more messes than usual.

DD2 has not seen me much the past few days and decided that she just had to nurse during DD1 skating lessons. Of course I don’t have a blanket in my bag because NIP is a rare occasion these days.
Next up is grabbing some treats so we can belatedly celebrate DH’s birthday.

I’ve been sipping on the kids pedialyte...it expired 🙄 but it’s the dry desiccant so I’m thinking it’s ok. I feel less nauseous than a couple hours ago so I’m going to attempt eating a cracker. It’s been 6 hrs since the toilet hugging incident so I m hoping it was a 1 time violent gut reaction 🤷🏻♀️ The last thIng I ate was a pear and a handful of mini peanut butter cups which I’ve been the only person who ate them
