donnamoss I’m sorry you’re in this position too. My dad keeps telling me to start applying for other jobs. But I really do enjoy my job. I wouldn’t know where to search either. But if you did want to stay with the government, maybe DOD jobs? I have a couple of friends who work for a division of DOD and they rarely if ever get shutdown. (Per friends) I struggle too because I LOVE my job and my team and my agency, and not to toot my horn but I’m really good at my job...but we are a single income house as H stays home, so I feel a great deal of responsibility to have reliable income. It’s maddening to be used as a political pawn year after year, CR after CR, budget cut after budget cut. I’m just tired. I think this sentiment is becoming quite common and I think will have repercussions for future hiring and quality of the work force. I am DOD and we are not immune, but maybe a little better insulated. My organization can handle short shutdowns without issue, but if DOD hadn't been funded we would be closed at this point too. A few years back we were all furloughed during sequestration (every Friday over the summer I think it was?), with no back pay.

Stupid sequestration. I had almost forgotten about that little experiment.

(Per friends) Several agencies are non-appropriated so they rarely (if ever) shut down. That's one of the reasons H liked working at Treasury--he wasn't so susceptible to the ridiculousness of Congress

Rep Clay Higgins is.... WOW He on with Poppy and Jim. And just thinks that talking over them is better than answering any questions.
I've not seen him before, but he's like a calmer McShirtsleeves, just vomiting words...

Stupid sequestration. I had almost forgotten about that little experiment. Every Medicare payment is still 2% lower thanks to sequestration. Ugh.

Usually I don't like linking to Trump here, but some of the replies to this are GOLD: This one made my morning.

It’s maddening to be used as a political pawn year after year, CR after CR, budget cut after budget cut. I’m just tired. I totally understand. It’s extremely difficult to work when you’re going from CR to CR and not knowing if at the end of a CR is a government shutdown. I think the CR to February 8 is laughable. Yes, I would totally love for the government to open and get our paychecks. But won’t we be right back here in a couple weeks? I mean how much and what kind of work can be done in a couple week increments? It’s just so frustrating. And budget cuts? Ugh. My agency hasn’t hired since I started there a decade ago. And of course the year where we had to take furlough days because of money. There have been a lot of sacrifices govt employees have had to make.

Serious question. How do I go about finding a new job? I’ve been with my agency 13 years. What websites are companies using to post jobs now? Try Indeed.com. They sweep other sites for job postings so they have a whole lot; usually what you can find on other sites as well. Sorry you're in this position. It's super not fair.

I work in higher ed admin, and while I think that you'd be a great fit for it with your experience donnamoss, hiring can take a while at colleges/universities. So maybe in the meantime too you could also look at some executive recruiting/headhunter roles where you could start working faster or cover for someone on a temporary basis in the private sector while you wait to go back to your f/t role? I agree that indeed + LinkedIn are super helpful.

dc2london, I'm so sorry for your house woes! How are things looking today? Were you able to get in contact w/ State Farm? Home ownership sucks so much sometimes.

Maybe I’m not using the right search terms but I’m not finding this so I can see who voted against this. Any links? Here's a list. Mark Meadows is dumpster fire garbage.

This isn’t politics related, specifically, but it sparked a little hope in me this morning. Maybe it will for you, too.

Why can’t they vote today?? Frantically whipping votes, if I had to guess. Isn’t there also a mandatory delay between announcing vote and how soon it can be held? Cannot remember how long it is but that was my assumption when I heard the scheduled vote dates.

dc2london, I'm so sorry for your house woes! How are things looking today? Were you able to get in contact w/ State Farm? Home ownership sucks so much sometimes. Thank you. When our furnace went out, it was so cold outside and inside that a pipe in the rear corner of the house burst. It sctually6was on an isolated switch so we were able to turn that off and restore water to the rest of the house

45 just sent a letter to Speaker Pelosi stating he plans on delivering the SOTU as scheduled. Can he do that? According to WaPo, House and Senate must pass a concurrent resolution for a joint session so... to answer your question, I don't know. Because I don't think the House would pass it.

45 just sent a letter to Speaker Pelosi stating he plans on delivering the SOTU as scheduled. Can he do that? He can go shout on the House Floor, sure, but he needs a Joint Resolution to address both chambers, and I'm not sure he's going to get that out of this House

Also he should read the dmn Constitution bc it says nothing about when or where the SOTU happens.
"HE SHALL, FROM TIME TO TIME"

Can he not find another adjective besides 'sad' ffs.
Also I dont think he can just barge in the house and start talking, I mean he could but it would be awfully embarrassing for him to be standing in a half empty chamber
