We painted this past weekend, and I’m excited to start getting furniture in! The walls are two pale blue-grays (top is BM Silver Cloud, bottom is BM Mt. Rainier Gray) divided by a chair rail. I’ll post a picture when I’m on the desktop later today.
We’re doing a space/science fiction theme. I registered for crib sheets that have subtle star patterns on them (that way we can still use them for #2) and I’ve been making a quilt with some space and Doctor Who fabric. I found posters on Etsy designed to look like vintage travel posters, but for different sci-fi series, so we’ll probably get one Doctor Who, one Star Trek and one Star Wars.

How fun! We still don’t know for sure where we will be living (our current landlord in CO informed us after we decided to stay that he is thinking about selling the house so we may end up in MI after all). Even with DS we didn’t do much for nursery decor aside from some vinyl wall safari animals. We might decorate more if we are in a home we own.

mamabear02, I hope you can get the living situation figured out before baby comes! Staying here was supposed to be less stress for you!

The baby will be sharing a room with DD since she has more space than DS does. Eventually, we're thinking DS will realize he could have more space/privacy if we redecorate the basement bedroom for him and will want to move downstairs, but we don't want to push him and I'd prefer he be closer for a while yet.
Wall color is Swimming by Sherwin Williams
Other than the fancy crystal light fixture and a few touches of pink, DD's room isn't overly girly. Since it's a shared room, I'll probably let DD, age 9, help decide how to decorate and we may wait until after baby arrives since we're team green. We'll probably just do a plain white skirt on the crib and plain white sheets and not worry about crib bedding.
Edit: The color is more aqua in person

bonzo, I can't wait to see the pictures! bearfootzcontinued, I like that color and I think it will be fun to have your DD help with the decorating.

I think I'll need professional help with how to organize the closet space. I feel a major purge coming on.

Baby will be in our room for the first year probably, so we are not doing anything yet. Currently DS and Dd each have their own room, but they both sleep in DDs purple room. We are team green, and we may decide to convert the guest room, which is larger than either kid room, in to the bedroom for whatever sex this one ends up being, and having 2 kids in there (so if this is a girl, her and DD would get that room, and if this is a boy, him and DS would get that room).

Ok, since most of you have BTDT with buying furniture, help me decide what to do for finding a dresser. I have an idea of the look I want, and have found somewhat similar dressers at two totally different ends of the furniture spectrum. Option 1: under $300 from Wayfair, but we’d have to assemble it and not sure how long it would last into childhood. Option 2: roughly $800 from Pottery Barn Kids (though my aunt said she had a lot of rewards we could use so the price would likely end up being lower), solid wood, should last a long time
For either, we would be putting the changing pad on top of the dresser. This will be this kid’s dresser, I would likely get a different one for Baby #2 when that time came.
On the one hand, since it’s the only piece we need to buy, I feel like it makes sense to get a durable piece that will last. The crib is from a friend, and would move to Baby #2 when the time came, so we would be getting a bed at that point. More likely to find matching or coordinating pieces with PBK in a couple years than with Wayfair. On the other hand, is it naive to expect the dresser we buy now to last throughout childhood even if it’s solid wood?

It should be a worthwhile investment and it sounds like you haven't splurged on any other nursery furniture. And also it will make buying the furniture for an older kids rooms a lot easier.

I personally wouldn’t spend that much on kids furniture bc who knows what they will end up doing to it so I would go for the cheaper choice. I feel this way about pretty much all furniture in a house with kids though and we tend to be cheap in general.

bonzo, we have a PBK dresser and nightstand my mom bought my daughter. I love them, and plan on them lasting till she is out of the house. It is definitely work to instill in them to be good to furniture, and honestly the cleaning girls do more damage (which makes me mad).

courtniko, that’s good to hear that you like your PBK dresser and nightstand! I have some other PB pieces in the house which I love the construction of. Our kitchen table is PB, but was actually a lucky Craigslist find, and while it has some wear and tear on the finish, the construction is so solid I know it will be worth refinishing when that becomes necessary. Our couches are PB too, and they’re off white slip covers. A friend’s kid got chocolate on a cushion once, and she was freaking out and apologizing, and I told her not to worry, tossed the cover in the washing machine, and you can’t even tell there was ever a spill! So, I know I love their quality. But it does feel a bit weird to spend a lot on one thing after getting other big pieces for free/super discount.

I do also like that PBK is Greenguard Gold Certified (lower VOC emissions, normally more sustainable wood).
I’m pretty sure I’ve talked myself into this! Just need to get H over the sticker shock now...

We have been done with our nursery for a couple of weeks- we stripped the room and redid the flooring, paint, etc. I also went ahead and got out all of the things I saved from E and set them up. We need like 4 things, LoL (The closet now has doors installed 😬) One of us will sleep in the room likely for the first couple of months trading off with the other. It worked well with E and the other person got a good night of sleep.

I loathe spending actually money on wood furniture like dressers or side tables because you can find such nice stuff used— before you shell out $$ (because you have time) I would visit your local thift stores and see what they have or look at Facebook. You can find solid wood dressers for under $50 usually. The little dresser in the nursery closet I got for like $15 and painted it with paint samples from Home Depot. The small China cabinet that has our cloth diapers in it was $20 + paint.

elephantastic, your area’s thrift stores and Craigslist/FB Marketplace are nothing like mine! It’s rare to find beat up MDF furniture (Wal Mart level) for under $50 used here. Getting something solid wood would easily be over $300, and I’d still have to rent a truck and refinish it. I’m glad it worked for you, but taking on that kind of project is not something I want to do right now.

We got the crib put together tonight. Had to make trips to 2 different Home Depot’s, since the one nearest us didn’t stock one type of the hardware we needed (our friends lost the hardware somewhere in their move). Oh well, even with the extra trip, that’s still only about $30 spent on the crib! I just need to do a little touch up where their oldest chewed on the front rail.
