I was more along these lines: A combination of these two was me this morning. While realising my teeny tiny baby is turning 6 this year 😭😭😭.

Also hi. Work is kicking my butt in advance of heading back to Calgary next week and I'm just feeling really irritated. I'm probably not in the best mood for counseling today but we need to go.
We had "snow" last night and I put it in quotes because it was MAYBE 1/4 inch? It was enough for a 2 hour delay so Colin stayed home and played while I worked, then I dropped him off at school at 11. I really DO love the teachers and administrators at his school, they seem to know each and every kid who walks through the doors. I'm not sure I've mentioned it before, but Colin has a 4th grade "book buddy" he meets with once a month or so, as well as a 5th grade "wing man" he meets with on a regular basis. It's cute how they let the kids mentor each other and I know it's helped him feel more comfortable with the older kids in his after school program.
Chase's favorite teacher is leaving on maternity leave after this week. I'm hoping he doesn't backtrack with the potty training but he's SO attached to her and he's not exactly an easy going kid. I can hope anyhow...

Speaking of turning 6, Colin has 2 birthday parties later this month on the same weekend - both 6 year old parties. So weird!! One is ice skating and the other is at the trampoline park, so I'm sure he'll have a blast.

Dance recital costumes are in. Really hoping my kid doesn't have some crazy growth spurt between now and May.

I know I'll be emotional when the time comes. Plus I'm going to be sad to say goodbye to our preschool because I love it, but I'm so ready for Maddie and Cass to be at the same school. It'll be so much easier.

It'll be so much easier. I am so happy with Josie‘s preschool, but I sometimes entertain the option of sending Charlie to the preschool at the elementary school because then they would both be in the same building next year, and although it wouldn’t be five days a week or for the same length of time, drop off would be the same time.

I just registered my kid for kindergarten. It's all online and I still have to take in the appropriate documentation, but the bulk of it is done. If you need me, I'll be in the corner crying my eyes out. LOL I was LITERALLY just perusing the website for my town to find out when I need to do this. How the F is this possible???? I mean, they are still babies?!?

joelies, that's so sweet (about the 4th and 5th grade buddies). I hope our school does something like that. Our DC sometimes has the "big kids" (ie S class) go help out in the 2-3 year old class. The kids love it and they feel so important. Not sure how much they are actually helping... but it's still cute.

I looked into kinder reg this weekend. I can do the online stuff after 2/1 and then the orientation thing is in April. I’m kind of sad about my baby growing up, but I’m also kind of glad she’ll be at school all day.
I forgot that I had applied for another position and got a call today to schedule an interview. It’s an admin assistant position and the interview is next Thursday. I’m stressing again about daycare. I emailed a place that would be on my way to see if they have an opening.

Kindergarten registration is in the spring here for public schools; they have an orientation day in April where the children get to see the classrooms, etc.
Our preschool is hosting a K orientation/meet and greet this Thursday. I think I’ve about made up my mind to let B go to our neighborhood school but I’ll probably go to that JIC we change our minds.

Prek already sent out a save the date for the graduation in May and we are all 😭 at the thought of it. We don't know much about the school and will be applying for a French immersion program there, so lots of unknowns. I didn't see a spot to register yet, but will keep an eye on it. I'm not really worried about him since the is friendly and will be ready except that I worry that I'll struggle with the lack of accessibility and info on his day/life at school.

Happy birthday mamabear! Any fun plans to celebrate? C and I made some progress this morning; I decided to do a gift basket but need to find a container. I normally try to use the baby tub the mom registers for, but the one she picked out wouldn't work well for this. So once DH gets home I'm heading back out. In other news, the bed is being delivered on Saturday! I took some pics of our old one so I think I'm going to list it online once we get it broken down. Not sure if there'll be any takers since it's only the bed and not accompanying pieces, but we'll see. What did you get? Did you go registry or practical? I seem to remember you debating about this?

LOL, probably! I always agonize over baby gifts in particular, IDK why. My new year's resolution was to be more decisive, so I ended up doing a couple small things from her registry, but otherwise I went a bit off the grid and got her some practical, necessity-type items. Her registry was...interesting.

tallb - Colin's pre-K graduation was the cutest thing ever. Of course I had taken the red eye back from CA the night before and had time for a quick shower before heading over. Between being emotional and being exhausted, I pretty much sobbed through the entire thing. Fortunately the teachers had boxes of tissues conveniently placed around the room, so apparently I wasn't the first unhinged parent they'd dealt with.

I don’t even know where I’ll be living yet to register for kindergarten. At some point this spring I will visit some schools in the areas we are looking at. I’m trying not to think about him not only starting K, but at a new school in a new city. I think we’ll all be a little anxious when the time comes.

I’m so impressed by so many of you and your ability to move around. I live 6 feet from where I grew up and the only time I ever lived farther than that is the 4 months we spent at my sister’s during construction (you know 3 blocks from here). Every school my kids attended so far, I also attended (as did both of my parents).

So I think I love my counselor. I went in feeling kind of negative today and having no clue what to talk about. She started off asking what's been going well, which I had to really think about at first. But then we both started bringing up little things that honestly HAVE been better in the last month or so, and suddenly we had plenty to talk about and the hour flew by. And I felt guilty because I talk SO MUCH more than DH does. But on our drive home, he actually commented that he LIKES that because I let my guard down and talk about things I'm normally too afraid or uncomfortable to talk about. Which is true, I'm so bad at asking for things or admitting when I'm upset. But I also probably don't make a big enough deal when I'm happy with him or us. It's crazy how little things add up and how the strangest things we take for granted are interpreted by others. I'm just really glad we're doing this.

Long couple of days....
But basically, we have pinpointed the problem....but not the “why”.
The radial nerve is not working fully. He said the good news is that there is some reaction with it, but definitely not where it should be. He took a lot of pictures with ultrasound. The nerve conduction showed everything else working perfectly, except the radial nerve.
He ordered some more bloodwork to look more specifically at a bunch of things. (The bloodwork we had done before was more basic). So he said give him a week to study over everything and the bloodwork results. But he is pretty sure he wants to try IVIG therapy to see if it will help her.
Also had her a custom made splint for both hands that she has to wear at night to help keep the ligaments from over stretching.
We are on our way home now. And I’ll send her back to school tomorrow.

Happy bday mamabearHmmm... I guess I should see when kinder registration is. R will go to Landon’s school, and mostly I’m nervous because Landon is an angel child (like student of the year last year) and Ryland.... is not. 😂 but my good friend is going to be his kinder teacher and she is strict and knows him well enough not to be charmed by him, which is going to be good for him. I just finished painting C’s room. I bought some curtains and I need to take some pics and show them to you guys to see what you think. Also, in exciting news, we had our first pool company come out today to get some information so they can give us quotes. We have two more coming tomorrow. I’m excited and nervous. It’s so much $$$$$, but our yard will be our own little oasis. I hope we can move things along quickly enough to get in done for this swim season.

That's interesting lfig. I'm glad they found the issue and hope they find the root cause ASAP. I mean, I like a good medical mystery and all but not when it impacts S.

Last year registration for K was in late spring. They don’t do a screening, but the teachers go to visit the preschools the incoming class is attending (v. small district and many attend the school’s preschool). For those not in preschool, they have a play date like meet and greet at the school in June. In August, there is orientation. I am sad I won’t get the every day all day interaction with Josie.

We have been waiting for over an hour to be seen. I probably would have left, but she already left a urine sample, so I'm hoping once we get back in a room, it will be fast.
I just keep reminding myself that its the middle of flu season and she could be much sicker...

Sleep training begins in 2 hours. Wish me luck! I just explained to the kids that C may scream a lot tonight. We are in the basement playroom trying to tire him out. I plan to nurse him once before bed but not during the night for at least 4-5 hours. He hasn’t nursed since about 4:30 this morning. He drinks milk from a cup not not nearly the amount the doctor suggested.
