Hi, Monday. I haven’t missed you at all.
I forgot L’s bottles this morning. I’m annoyed with work already. Blah.

DH is in Vegas on a work trip until Wednesday. And of course L is teething badly and not sleeping. She was up 2-3 last night and although she did go back to sleep in arms or in my bed, I was wired and didn't get back to sleep until maybe 4. I'm recovering from a bad cold too so I could really use the sleep. Settling in at my desk at work. My number one goal today is to hydrate, lol.

good morning! we only had 2 wake ups last night. not great, but not horrible. just running errands today and making lists for packing for our trip to disney this weekend. i’m trying to figure out if i have enough pumped for dd2 (we’re leaving her with my mom). i’m also anxious because she still really won’t take a bottle and has just got the hang of sippy cup. how many ounces is everyone’s little one taking right now?

Does anyone else's baby have longg periods of being awake motn? E has been awake for 2-3 hours around 1:00 for the last week and I am done. I'm so tired I can't see straight.

polson, not sure if you're interested in formula ounce totals, but L gets 24 oz of formula a day. It used to be higher but she dropped nighttime bottles and we replaced one cluster feed that we did before bedtime with solid foods.

J had his 9 month checkup this morning. The Dr said he looks great and she's really happy with his overall growth. We were having trouble with reflux when he was younger, but his 6 month and now his 9 month his weight seems to be stable. His cold did turn into an ear infection...I'm not surprised, but I'm ready for this gunk to be out of my house. Someone in my house has been sick since early December.

Hey guys, I haven’t posted much here recently but I read a lot. DS2 was 9m last week. He’s totally not interested in food. He nurses about 8 times a day. We didn’t introduce solids until 6 months. He acts like you’re trying to poison him with solids. We’ve tried oatmeal, sweet potatoes, squash, banana, apples, strawberries, yogurt, green beans, peas, carrots, peas...I’m sure there’s other stuff I’m not thinking of. Most of this has been purées. I’ll try to give him a bite but he usually doesn’t open his mouth so I hand him the spoon. He usually turns it around and chews on the handle 🙄 He’s had mum mums which he’ll kind of eat. If you give him actual pieces of food he thinks the point is to pick them up and throw them in the floor. He doesn’t put them in his mouth. Any suggestions of food or approaches to try?

polson, also formula feeding, but N is only taking..maybe 16-20oz a day? She cut back A LOT when she started eating real good. The dr said it was fine as long as she's growing.

smilesp, N has never been interested in anything spoon fed like purees or yogurts. But if we give her table food she eats it up. At the beginning a lot ended up on the floor but eventually she caught on. I would just keep trying. Remember "food before one is just for fun"!

Yes, our doc was also fine with a gradual decrease accompanied by a gradual increase in solids. I didn't do a gradual decrease with DS when he approached 1 and it was a difficult transition, so I'm glad to be doing it this way this time around! I will say that ours rejects the "food before 1 is just for fun" theory, which I agree with. She says its a formative time for eating skills and exposure to tastes and textures (not to mention allergens) so it is important to offer a wide variety of foods before 1. smilesp I wouldn't be losing sleep level worried about it--kids develop at their own timelines and suddenly things just click or the gag reflexes totally disappear overnight. I would keep doing what you are doing and offer everything. Eat with him always so that he can see your example. And talk to the doctor too just so she knows about it. A sensory eval might be on her radar at some point if he doesn't start showing interest soon.

DS takes two bottles of 150ml each at daycare (is that 4 and a bit ounces each bottle I’m not sure). Some days he hardly nurses during the day at all, some days he nurses heaps. I read that at this age it’s ok for up to half their daily calories to come from solids so I wouldn’t stress too much. Your mum could syringe the pumped milk or mix it into food if she gets the bottle/Sippy ready and she refuses it It will be ok. There’s a Kelly mom ounces calculator on her site if that helps to work out roughly how many ounces to leave.

DS1 was like this to a t. He never put the food in his mouth it drove me mad. He was on purées for a long time but is fine now. I used to make him mashed potatoes with chicken and blitz it, or sweet potato peaches and chicken, pumpkin soup with Lima beans for protein, smoothies with daddy (H has a smoothie for breakfast often), and puffs Slowly but surely he got into real food from peer pressure at daycare.

He also had a tongue tie that was missed and revised at 8 months which made him actually open his mouth for a spoon.

A sensory eval might be on her radar at some point if he doesn't start showing interest soon. I agree but the “food before one...” thing in the sense that they don’t need to be getting a lot of calories from solids. But I definitely understand about the taste/texture aspect. I’m going to keep offering and I’m sure he’ll come around. I haven’t been as great about offering as I was with DS1 just because it’s busier with 2 and sometimes he’s asleep when we’re eating, etc. but the last week or so I’ve really been trying to offer multiple times a day. We have our 9m appt on Wednesday and I will discuss with the Ped.

If she actually sleeps for a couple hours solid after I put her down she will be up to party for a couple hours MOTN. Last night it was 2am-4am. I feel like death. If she doesn’t do that she likes to be up for the day at 4am. “I’m so tired” has lost all meaning.

Big hits recently are tiny cubes of cheese, ground beef, corn...

ArielMermaid, pincer grasp, such a lovely milestone! L has been fascinated by hair pulling. Both mine and hers. Mine I can keep in a ponytail but she pulls hers in her sleep. And then wakes up crying. omg. stahhhhhp (I was awake from 1:45 - 4:45 last night can you tell)

ArielMermaid calendula, our girls must be comparing notes. E is so pinchy, especially while nursing and thinks hair was made to be pulled. Her own too, which I just don't understand. Like whyyy?

L does this thing where he buries his head in my neck/shoulder when I’m holding him. I think he’s cuddling with me and it’s really adorable... until he bites my shoulder. Or he comes up with a handful or mouthful of my hair.

I am seriously constantly amazed by how much she eats though. At my parents on Friday she ate at entire meatball, an entire crabcake and kept stealing some of my dad's baked french fries.

O takes 4oz of breastmilk 3x and 1 2oz bottle right before I pick him up. So ~14oz when I’m at work. The rest of the time he’s nursing so I’m not sure about a true 24 total.
